This was an old post. And we could only look back and say it simply did not happen. Perhaps by 2019? We still have 6 months left before the year will come to its end. However, the price of Ethereum right now is very far from $2,500. We even lost hold on the $300 mark. I think it is again another wishful thinking. I would be more than happy if ETH will touch $1,500 by December of 2019.

Ethereum reaching $2,500 by the end of the year, seems widely impossible considering Bitcoin's current trend in price. The movement has been rather slow than usual, compared to 2017's bull market. We just have to wait until Ethereum adopts its next big upgrade (Casper) before we're able to see the next upsurge in price.

In the meantime, we should buy more ETH for long-term hodling. While it's still a PoW cryptocurrency, we have the opportunity to buy ETH at the lowest price possible. If you accumulate now, not only you'll benefit from the high prices in the future, but also from the extra income earned by staking your coins within a wallet of choice.

Nonetheless, Ethereum reaching $2,500 seems realistic within a couple of years from now. But at the end of 2019, it might very well reach $500 per coin. Just my thoughts

One thing can be said with certainty - no matter how imperfect the Ethereum is, there is no one to replace it yet. There is no worthy competitor on the horizon yet.

Before smart contracts became a big hit, Ethereum was the only platform in existence. But once dApps became extremely popular, several alternatives started to emerge across crypto land. We now have TRON, EOS, NEO, Cardano, and several other smart contract blockchains. They have consistent development teams working on them every step of the way. With better features than Ethereum itself, most people have turned their attention into said cryptocurrencies.

Which is why, Ethereum's prices have been rather stagnant and relatively low. Unless ETH fully adopts PoS, it won't gather the attention of people within the mainstream world. Which is why, I believe that the main trigger in prices would be ETH's next big upgrade instead of Bitcoin's upsurge in price across the crypto market.

Nonetheless, there's no doubt that Ethereum will reach a price of $2,500 per coin. But it will take a long time before this becomes a reality, since ETH is just hovering between the $200 - $250 mark. For several reasons stated there is no big growth taking place with ethereum for a much longer time period. More alternative development through varied platforms have made the usage of ethereum down and the same has got impact over the price.

Same time it is also important to consider about the growth the rest of the altcoins have attained, if the alternate platforms have gained more potential now it could've reached the position of ethereum.

In terms of capitalization it might be hard to achieve, but considering the ath it has reached over the days I expect good growth to make the price grow in a stable way at least to a value near $1500.

Unlikely while PoW for ETH mining is going on, a lot of miners are actively shorting ETH...

Maybe if ETH developers make some groundbreaking innovations to the PoS system, new ATH's can be smashed through...

The reason why most of crypto project which recently create there own Blockchain surge in price is the effect of Bitcoin halving cause most of the coins that created there's when halving is not around the corner barely surge then.
 Speaking of  ETH competitors in what aspect are you referring to because the last time I checked all smart contract provider project are still far behind ETH and I don't see any reason why ETH share will decline since you also have new project having there IEO/ICO almost every day.

I understand that ethereum has a lot of competitors and other platforms selects a lot of new projects from it, which reduces its capitalization.  But I want to draw your attention to the fact that in most cases today all new projects are not in demand and are junk coins.  if these projects remain unclaimed, they will have a negative impact on all competitors ethereum.  Perhaps ethereum in this situation even win.

should see what is the reality of what is happening on the market now. ethereum is indeed very slow to move, it cannot compensate for the pump from bitcoin. if ethereum moves the same as bitcoin it might happen. but now it's not. this year will be difficult for ethereum.
