I think that Dogecoin will probably not take off, as many expect. But, there are already many hybrid coins based on dohecoin. Behind them is the future.

As I understand they think that Segwit will cause major problems with present merge mining with Litecoin. They said they will go to 0.16 wallet directly after 0.14

Yes, there is such a thing, you are absolutely right. But this coin is time-tested and trusted by many. A cheap transaction also affects the attitude to the coin. Therefore, the coin is of great interest.
