I don't want to sound stupid, but how doable do you think would this be?

Setting up a crypto currency exchange platform like bter or bitstamp or btc-e. The main different would be that it uses a lot more currencies to appeal to a lot more people as I have heard people wanting currency exchanges on different websites eg. Dogecoin

What do you think?
How difficult would it be? Would it be doable?

Thanks

It would be much easier to act as gateway to (and maybe from) Ripple and make markets in there yourself than to code a whole exchange. Take a look at DividendRippler for inspiration. This would give your customers access (if you make a market or find people who make them for you) to even cashing out USD or buying your beloved DOGEcoins with BTC. So wow!

https://www.coinlend.org <-- automated lending at various exchanges.
https://www.bitfinex.com <-- Trade BTC for other currencies and vice versa.

Thanks for the optimism.

I have found bex.io. Does it look dodgy to you or does it look ok?

We need a decentralized exchange, the question is how could it work?

1. order entry system distributed among peers

2. peers sync up the state of orders

3. orders are matched then move state

4. matched orders are settled

The identifiers of the orders need to be independent of the nodes, ie they need global scope identifiers, most sensibly URI based and/or content addressable

I dont think it's that hard to do ...

If we were to have our own exchange it could be (maybe I'm too hopeful) a turning point in the exchange of alt coins and crypto currencies.
