GODDAM IT.
This is the THIRD time UPS has shafted me (every antminer ive ordered). Just like the last 2 times, I was home all day for the package and left a note in the lobby with a buzzer code and instructions to come to the 4th floor.
Just like before, its past 7pm (its actually 9:45PM today) before the tracking status changes from 'on truck for delivery' to 'first attempt made'. Its too late to schedule a will-call with UPS.
What can I do about this? Its obviously not Bitmain's fault, but im seriously pissed off that once again the UPS delivery truck decided to skip me and mark me as 'attempt made' when no such thing took place. UPS call center of course gives less than half of a f**k.
I know and i feel for you. I live in a fourth floor apartment in an elevator building. Still sometimes they do that to me. They are one rude carrier. I like DHL in that matter. I have received a number of packages through them and they have been very professional about it. (for international shipping, they are more economical than UPS and Fedex as well).

UPS
Yesterday started the day off pissed off hearing i may need to pay £260.
After recieving an email from UPS saying my box is on the way to me
i waited by the door allday...... im on the ground floor no stairs no narrow paths and plenty of parking outside.
at 3pm i receive a email saying "first attempt made"..
i instantly tried to contact UPS (tried not dialling a 0870 they kept on telling me i cannot be transffered as i will have to call the toll number)
eventually they responded that my local depot would get in contact with me within one hour.
Hour and half later i get a call saying that driver did call and has gone home for the day.
Im getting pissed off with there dishonesty and B. The lady is telling me "how it is" rather then apologizing or putting me through to the actual driver.
I was told to go there Depot 9miles away at highest traffic congestion time..spent 20 minutes in traffic and then i recieve a call again from depot, wtf an apology and that the driver is coming to redeliver to me now..
what a piss take.
Paid the driver £39.07 Now all plugged in but wont load Cgminer tried resetting and cold start. so waiting on Sushi to see if he can get it running.
when you are free Sushi email pls may need some tech support.

Hi Sushi, No tracking number received Bump! Forget the tracking number as UPS have been and the unit is hashing. Now I have to buy some sun glasses for the extra bright leds, I hope that they are not going to increase the watts at the wall

Gotta complain to UPS, odds are the driver didn't want to go up to the 4th floor. Yes complain to UPS, but track down a corporate number, not the call center. I did. I requested they hold it for pickup at 5pm - "we cant do that until after a first delivery attempt" I called at 10pm after the first attempt shows as being at 9:45PM (I was home, no notice or buzzer attempt) - "you had to call earlier, it will go out tomorrow for a 2nd attempt. we will have the dispatch center call you before 10am" By 11:30 am today, no callback. so i called them - "oh, well the driver today is sick so its a replacement, we cant do anything to make sure they deliver before 3pm" I am going away for the weekend, so basically I have been shafted for 4 days (thursday afternoon - monday afternoon) of potential mining time. TO SUSHI/BITMAIN : This is unacceptable to me. Ive never had issues with FedEX, Purolator, or canada Post. BUT for the third time, UPS has not come to my building/apartment and has been a nightmare to deal with. Please consider establishing other shipping options such as DHL if possible. i would gladly pay $50 more to avoid this incompetency. The time wasted contacting UPS and the mining proceeds lost to these issues far outweighs any cheaper prices they have vs. DHL/Fedex/etc

Simple solution give them a number for you to contact you on I actually got a phone call to advise their 30min away and kept a look out for ups van and then seen van and went down my 8 flights of stairs and went to the door. Any optional instructions has to be done via notes in ups account or given to customer services as they don't take note other wise any notes on door etc they will ignore. If you want to pick item up ask to pickup at your local ups depo station. I had to do that on my 2nd unit but had note though door phoned them and then went to their unit and collected.

Maybe there's another thread somewhere for this but has anyone discussed that even with so much power of our Antminer S1, it's looking very doubtful that we're gonna get our ROI of 3.15BTC? [I'm not complaining at all; as I suspected it from the start before I bought it ] I just want to focus the discussion on ROI wrt Antminer S1. What are your plans/contingencies? I'm basing my numbers from playing around with the S1 since last night (about 13 hours worth of data); so not really significant sample size. Many thanks to sushi and Bitmain for such a FAST shipping and so easy setup (literally 5 minutes; of course I was timid and took my time so maybe 15 minutes setup). I had everything ready; table, power supply, dd-wrt router brdiged via wifi to my main router (same one I'm using for my "downed" Litecoin miner).

As usual UPS screwed me over. It reached my depot yesterday evening and was on delivery vehicle today morning. Had me wait at home all day and at the end of day, they moved the delivery date to Monday.
UPS sucks.. atleast the driver on my route. this is not the first time he has done that. I have one lazy fucked up driver serving on my route. @Sushi.. make note of this. Fedex / DHL is far better than UPS.

Both of mine have been up about 40 hours, and I've already made 0.25 bitcoins So not bad at all And that was including some downtime, when I was figuring out about the power supplies and to get rid of some x's that were showing up, right now, both units have full oooo's Just a thought when it doesn't become profitable to mine bitcoins Why not switch to another sha-256 currency? Oh and UPS sucks Never had a good experience with them FedEx is much, much better

Oh and UPS sucks Never had a good experience with them FedEx is much, much better - 1. Mine other sha-256 altcoins (and exchange for btc or ltc at cryptsy)
2. Sell the Antminer when it can only produce .2btc/day or after 30 days (whichever comes first) 3. Buy another miner from sushi if price goes to 2btc within 10 days like $ cost average on stocks except with btc (effective price for 1 Antminer would be ~2.6btc)
I was thinking same as you if btc mining gets too difficult to mine altcoins and exchange for btc. This is exactly what I was doing just before my ltc miner crashed. I was mining fastcoins and exchanging for ltc, because ltc mining did not produce as much when ltc difficulty shot up. You were in a very lucky pool there! Care to share? I got .039 for the first 13 hours, then switched to another pool and got .036 for the next 14 hours. I'm back with the first pool. I'v also OC'ed to 400Mhz last night and getting about 202GH/s (average for the past 9 hours). Cooling is important. I got a couple of xx's in the first few minutes after OC and when I put the Antminer closer to the big fan (i got from walmart), the x's turned to o's. Stable right now but California weather has been sunny so I'm waiting to see what happens during the day. Thanks for your thoughts and inputs.

[I'm not complaining at all; as I suspected it from the start before I bought it ] You (meaning anyone, not just you) can not accurately predict ROI since it depends on future difficulty changes, and also on the residual value of the miner. All you can do on these is guess. If you guess that these will be low+high you should buy the miner, if not you shouldn't. There is this fallacy that you can make a few clicks a on web site like genesis block, etc. and get a definitive yes or no answer on whether to purchase a miner. False. As for mining some other coin if you look at profitability of mining other SHA256 coins it has generally not been favorable. Mining scrypt coins has been somewhat favorable. But as for the future, again all you can do is guess.

My two Antminers are happily hashing away at sushi's hosting center a few days earlier than expected! Friggin' sweet! Put in a support ticket to have them overclocked. Hosting is great option here, painless and efficient. Thanks sushi!!
