wolf of wall street lone survivor american hustle
Those are the best movies that have been out this year in my opinion...
I really need to see Wolf Of Wall Street. All I ever hear is good things about it! It's so good. People either love it or hate it, but I loved it. That one guy from Superbad (I foget his name), took 60k as his pay just to be in the movie because scorsese was directing Wasn't aware of that, but I was surprised he was even cast in this. Does he actually play a character other than Jonah Hill in it though? I like him as a comedic actor, but I'm sceptical of his talents as a serious dramatic actor, but I love to be proved wrong.

Both this and Moneyball show that he's got a certain amount of talent. I personally think he looks like a huge asshole in real life, but he can be half decent in movies. I'm tired of his comedies, though.

I actually bet on the Oscars through my friend's sportsbook lol. It's pretty funny, but you can get some crazy odds on some longshots that sometimes hit. 12 years a slave is far and away the heavy favorite for this year's best picture. I saw it. It was good, but I didn't think it was great.

I agree it's not the year's best, but it's between that and Gravity. The winner the Producer's Guild Award for Best Picture usually wins the Oscar. This year was a tie between 12 Years a Slave and Gravity...

Too bad it won't be Her or Wolf of Wall Street...

It deals with racism but as a film, it's very safe and almost feels like Oscar bait. I've liked Steve McQueen's other films (Hunger, Shame) much more than this one.

This year was a tie between 12 Years a Slave and Gravity... Gravity for cinematography or special effects, but I don't think there is any chance in the world that it wins best picture. You have to remember that the winner of the Oscar's usually has some politics also behind it... i.e. Halle Barry winning best actress a few years back, and Argo winning best picture (while Affleck was not even nominated for best director). On another note...here is another good one "End of Watch" Not brand new, but if you guys haven't seen it, rent it or buy it...it is well worth it!

The writer of Training Day is good with police-related narratives though his upcoming film with Arnold looks alright at best.

The strangers was pretty scary. Been out for awhile.
If you guys can get ahold of the documentary "bloodlines" you should check it out. It was pretty much banned everywhere, but super interesting
I've seen Strangers, i'll look into bloodlines, thanks Yeah, End of Watch was pretty solid. The writer of Training Day is good with police-related narratives though his upcoming film with Arnold looks alright at best.
If you liked Training Day I thought Brooklyn's Finest was pretty similar in style and a solid movie, also has Ethan Hawk

If you liked Training Day I thought Brooklyn's Finest was pretty similar in style and a solid movie, also has Ethan Hawk I'm pretty sure Brooklyn's Finest was also written by a cop (and first-time screenwriter). Looks like cops have some life stories that translate well to the screen... Michael Mann was a cop too before turning to directing.
