God-dammit I've many lost essay long posts because I hit F5 by mistake.

Can we please incorporate something by which a post that you are writing auto-saves, like it happens in gmail while writing a mail.

If you too have faced this issue, vote if you want this feature.

How do you keep hitting f5 by mistake? It's the time limit that usually shafts me.

Try a browser plug-in. I remember something like Text cache for firefox.
Or Simple Form Recovery for chrome.

Haven't tested them but give them a try.

Some browsers allow you to press the arrow which will take you back and may save the details. However, some don't. If you are really that concerned you can always copy and paste it on a notepad.

You can use a software like ditto instead. It runs quietly in the background and keeps all your ctrl+v stuff.
If you manage to hit f5 by mistake , you'll close that notepad also.

F5 just refreshes the page. It will not clear anything that you have on notepad, libreoffice or word. It's always good to keep a copy of anything which has taken a long time anyway.

I already said that hitting the f5 by mistake sounds a bit weird. So I can safely assume he might have a problem with clicking the wrong minimize/close button with the mouse too Smiley.

This should be added to the newbie readme.

Can this be made into portable JS without any additional JS libraries? I'll add it to bitcointalk.org.

With HTML5 storage I think it's doable rather easily (my script uses greasemonkey's storage functions instead of HTML5)
I can do it if you want me to, it shouldn't take long
