I used the site for a while with no problems but I now keep getting this message when I try to place a bet: Unfortunately, we can not accept bets from your jurisdiction, sorry. I don't understand what is going on or why this is happening to me. I looked up Rules and Help and contacted support but no answers there.  |

I just wanted to say that DirectBet is an unethical operation / borderline scam. As an example they offered live betting on the Toronto Blue Jays / New York Mets game tonight but only accepted bets on Toronto during the game!!! I wanted to bet on the Mets for over an hour during the game and continuously reloaded the page but they never once accepted bets on the winning side. BTCWagering is a Bitcoin sports player advocate site for over a year and we are working on a new system and interface to rate all of the operations out there. We will most certainly putting in the work to expose DB for what they are - unscrupulous money-grabbers. Attached is a screen shot of what I described tonight.  |

As an example they offered live betting on the Toronto Blue Jays / New York Mets game tonight but only accepted bets on Toronto during the game!!! I wanted to bet on the Mets for over an hour during the game and continuously reloaded the page but they never once accepted bets on the winning side.
According to our records we did book bets on New York Mets both before and during the game. Betting on a particular selection might be suspended from time to time, as apparently was the case here. I'm sorry for the inconvenience caused. |

They could be doing it for their own safety precautions . The same thing happened to PrimeDice and fastbet where as they dont accept deposits from US based players anymore despite that both arent located in US . Reason for this would be simple that as an online gambling sites there will be a high risk if you dont comply to these regulations especially if you are not a licensed sportsbook ( We might see more of sportsbook sites to block UK IPs soon )
I seems to have missed this information, is Directbet a licensed sportsbook? |

Are you sure about this ? I haven't ever since an announcement about this before. I don't think UK has very strict laws for this when it comes to sportsbooks . US would probably be the first country to be blocked if they did. I seems to have missed this information, is Directbet a licensed sportsbook?
Nope, and I doubt any of the bitcoin sportsbooks are licensed. |

I haven't ever since an announcement about this before. Cant find any official news regarding this either. Had a search on google and it lead me to a UK government gambling commision but it didnt show any announcement regarding this either ( check it here , or perhaps Im on the wrong page http://www.gamblingcommission.gov.uk/Home.aspx ). Checked their official twitter as well but I found nothing regarding this The only thing that I found will be from Tonyq post's as well |

Already, Direct Bet and the Fairlay Bitcoin betting exchange have implemented this today.
It's outrageous.
It does seem they have locked out UK customers primarily for this reason. I can't however find any news about this online. |

It was a few months ago when I saw this information but a friend who is working on some investigative journalism about crypto betting and regulatory compliance discovered that Directbet had at least some servers hosted in a colo facility in the UK. This might not be the case any more but I expect that any licensed bookmakers in the UK would be extremely hostile towards an unregulated company providing a service to the UK gambling market. Perhaps the authorities in the UK have started to crack down on unregulated gambling sites. The next few years are going to be very interesting for the crypto gambling industry. Directbet claim to be based in Costa Rica which has turned a blind eye to unregulated and unlicensed gambling for years but even Costa Rica is starting to turn the screw albeit very slowly. I guess there will always be regulatory and tax havens but I expect that the sands will be shifting quite rapidly in the near future. After all, the online gambling industry in the UK alone is worth £6.2bn per year. The big players in the industry will want to protect their assets. EDIT: I can understand outrage about the recent reminders to betting companies about UK law but regulation of gambling is there for a reason. Directbet have always been more than reasonable and professional when dealing with me despite being at times a very demanding customer but the bottom line is that they remain an unregulated, unaudited and unidentified entity. Even if Directbet might be trusted, many other services might not be trustable. |
