2014 = SHIT year for bitcoin, sorry but I've said it over and over again and it's true

The good news? There will be better years... lol at people who keep saying 2014 is "the year of bitcoin" haha

2014 has been a good year for bitcoin. Maybe not for the price but let's look back for a moment.

- Survived 400+ China Bans
- Survived MtGOX exchange disaster
- Survived SilkRoad hack and auction
- ATMs launched
- Big retailer adoption
- etc.

Bitcoin has shown that it is not a Tulip Craze.

We will probably get better years but we now know Bitcoin is a sound investment with moderate risk (not high as previously).

Bitcoin is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get !!

Totally shit for gains.

As for actual developments, things have been happening that would've had you electrocuted by this forum for suggesting two or more years ago.

The future is bright. The present either dull as ditch water or shit. You can't have it all all the time.

Fascinating poll.
Only 5% think the price will be lower than today!
The problem is that people on this forum probably only have a tiny fraction of the bitcoins, have no resources to buy more, and don't believe enough in their convictions to take a leveraged position.

Don't say stupid things. 2014 is a good year for Bitcoin despite MtGox

This poll should be kept alive, as an indicator of the relative weight of bears versus bulls.
Clearly the vast majority of speculators (on this forum) are wildly bullish...

Yeah but how things are changing!  This poll was started with almost no one predicting less than $1000.  Amazing how 6-8 months changes almost everyone's mind.  I've said it over and over and over.  I own and believe in Bitcoin, but there was NO WAY it was going to $10k+ a coin this year.  I even placed a good size bet on it not going there on Bitbet.

Its just not ready yet for that.  Yes, it has increased in price greatly each year before but its the amount of NEW money needed to increase it more is exponentially increased each time the price increases.  $10MM in new money was needed to grow it to $10/coin.  A lot at the time, but nothing today with the current market cap of Bitcoin hovering in the $6-7 billion range.

$10k/coin we were talking close to $70 Billion in new money needed.  People forget how much money you need for the price to keep increasing.  (yes I know it technically doesn't need to be new money but all for all practical purposes it does)  $70 billion is A LOT.  Even with Wall Street involved.  Slow but steady...

I think any price prediction in USD is going to be wrong.

Ha, interesting to see how the sentiment has changes in the meantime! In Januare people were still hoping for $10k or thought that $1k was a given! I guess most people back then found about $3000 to be realistic. Now we're fighting with holding the $500 threshold...

Ummm difficult now. I think I'm having a beary day, so I'll go with my prediction I just made in another thread: $250 on December 31, 2014! I won't be very happy if that prediction holds true though!

I should have gotten into Bitcoin back in 1992...

yeah Q4 was pretty big time for bitcoin last year. it'll be interesting to see how this unfolds. the situation in argentina looks to be worsening, possible news on the winklevi twins coming out with an ETF, plus it'll be the holiday season and people spending bitcoins might decrease the price. i wouldn't be surprised to see newegg offer more discounts with bitcoin, as well as overstock and dell.

I think we're now entering the phase where people have returned from their holidays. And traditionally all the regular stock markets start to move as well as soon as the months ending in -ber come around the corner. That being said, I think we may be in for a nice surprise!
