HTC is planning to build a new blockchain-powered phone featuring a built-in cryptocurrency wallet. HTC's Exodus device will make it easier for users to trade cryptocurrencies The touted Android device, known as Exodus, will come packaged with a universal wallet and hardware support for all major cryptocurrencies, including Bitcoin, as well as featuring decentralised applications. Head HTC's business and corporate development Phil Chen, who founded the company's virtual reality system Vive, outlined these plans in an interview with The Next Web, also providing provisional schematics. "Through Exodus, we are excited to be supporting underlying protocols such as Bitcoin, Lightning Networks, Ethereum, Dfinity, and more," Chen said. "We would like to support the entire blockchain ecosystem, and in the next few months we'll be announcing many more exciting partnerships together." More information can be found here about this news http://www.alphr.com/mobile-phones/1009357/htc-exodus-blockchain-powered-smartphoneIn that next few months is where my interests lies because that is where the outcome of all planning, speculations, prototypes will have to materialise as without that, its mere words and noise that does not move anything. Its really a good one though as it shows to promote crypto currency to a new set of people. I have gotten aware of certain products I didn't even know exist because its a default app on my phone and even if I wanted to get rid of it, I can't as I am left with exploring it.

Details, including price, are currently scant. The big-picture idea, says HTC, is that this is a phone for those who value privacy. By using blockchain tech, the Exodus will be able to give privacy-minded users control over their data without having to rely on the major technology companies for cloud storage. This is so great

This is just marketing. No one, who actually values his privacy will buy a mainstream smartphone from one of the biggest manufacturers in the world that is running Android. Besides, they should really fire the guy, who came up with the name "Exodus". The name "Exodus" is already in use in the cryptocurrency scene (it is the name of a multi-currency wallet that has integrated Shapeshift). https://www.exodus.io/

There is need of blockchain powered cell phone now a days. It will be helpful in doing crypto related business. Every company and government should take steps towards facilitation of Digital/crypto currency. They should announce incentives on crypto related products as many of the ico products are giving incentives to promote their ico project.

Why HTC announced it? Because HTC is not a profit-making company now. It just sold their engineering department to Google. For Taiwan it is important that HTC keeps existence. It is an important high tech company in Taiwan. From Vive to Exodus, Now HTC must catches every possible chance to back to the glory again.
Hmm possibly true, but they are still producing smart phones as far as I know. Competition is very tough on their field specially when Samsung enter the pictures years ago. I like this concept. Only downside I see is a potential for wallet, personal and financial data being collected through wireless transmissions. There was a story in the news in 2017 about 400 million android phones being vulnerable to a backdoor installed by chinese vendors. All of which could be filed under "normal concerns" for any type of hardware/software where money is involved. Its been documented many routers and modems have backdoors installed via default as well so it is possible laptops and desktops are currently as vulnerable as smartphones.
It is a good concept. Many carry their phones. Having all the information and functionality required "at your fingertips" is something Bill Gates could only aspire to in decades past. Its been said wallet and crypto support could be installed via default with this latest roll out of their "blockchain powered" smartphone. Hopefully people will experiment with it and learn about crypto on their own, without being misled or influenced too much by the media which tends to portray a negative view of crypto and bitcoin in general.
I like the concept, too...... but I am also, like others here have expressed, skeptical. Not sure I would want to be trusting and using a bitcoin wallet that came pre-installed on my phone. I think I will wait this out and see what happens with it. It is interesting to me, but I am not into being the guinea pig for a device like this. Yeah, that would be the catch, we are very paranoid about our crypto wallets and wouldn't trust it to someone specially a pre-installed bitcoin wallet. So I'm not on board with this one, yeah its convenient to use however, I still prefer the handy hardware wallet to keep my bitcoin safe.

That is very huge step for the technology of the world and also the development of cryptocurrency that'll be good for all people in the world that are actually using cryptocurrency in their life but they must show the people what is cryptocurrency first before releasing that.

I don't this is much to get excited about. It's basically going to be an android powered device with a crypto wallet built in, from what I understand. I would be excited about a phone with a full blockchain based OS, now that would be something!

I would be excited about a phone with a full blockchain based OS, now that would be something! You are going a bit too fast here. Blockchain as technology is in its very early stage still, and no one here can even remotely imagine what new uses blockchain will be capable of in the coming few years. Currently we just need to get through the hype around the blockchain since it actually hinders development. The sentiment nowadays is that everything with blockchain in its name has potential and is worth millions. Just look at how many shitcoins and shit ICOs we are dealing with. It is a bubble in a way, and at some point we'll see everything go to back to normal, and that will be the best possible outcome. Quality matters, not quantity. Current hype is all about quantity as we can see.

if this is true I think HTC should really provide pasilitas or create an application intended to build blockhain or cryptocurrency technology even more powerful. So it means not just to take advantage of the poppularity of blockhain and cryptocurrency technology just to create the business progress that is developed.

Can anyone explain me what does the blockchain-powered smartphone means? I understand it wilk support crypto and have it's built in wallet but what does the blockchain tech has to do with smartphone? I know it can be used in many ways but have no idea what it has to do with smartphone. Has it to do something with security? (But android has worst security ever) or with inteligent smartphones?
