DJ naming artists and songs
DJ: "Yes, weird message: we've told it before in this show, ther are bitcoins nowadays under the name of 'coinye', am I saying this correctly, Robbie?"
F1k: Yes, that is indeed the pronounciation I stick to.
DJ: I always find this a difficult story, but bitcoins are a digital payment thingy nowadays, (F1k: uhu) and you, as kind of a joke, made a coin about Kanye West, Coinye West.
F1k: "That was the original developer, he then got Kanye's layers chasing him, and by then we had quite a lot of them. So we felt it would be a waste..
DJ: You bought those?
F1k: No, we made those
DJ: O, ok, what? How do you do that? Do you have some kind of machine standing somewhere to make those coinye's?
F1k: <Actually, yes. How that works is, it's cryptographic money so you need to calculate it. It's kind of like a scavangehunt.
DJ "Okay"
F1k: You mount that hunt with multiple people at the same time. (DJ: Uhm) Imagine a warehouse, where you have a lot of things stashed. (Dj: Yes) We know that in that warehouse there are four sets of Monopoly from the year 1965. Imagine that for Coinye, we agreed to use the bills from the sets as money. Then we all need to go find those sets, mark the notes from those sets with a serial number and then we know it's those notes we're going to spend as coinye.
DJ: Okay. And that was probably a digital hunt then, or did you really go out into the field?
F1k: It was a digital search
DJ: Okay. So, you allready had a bunch of them and then you where like "Hmm, now what?"
F1k: Yes I was like, if one man with a big wallet can make a bitcoin-variant go down then that doesn't really give bitcoin any points for stability. So we need to go fix that.
DJ: Yeah, that's a bit scary you mean?
F1k: Yes, I mean, I also have other coins and imagine that my Bitcoins turn out to be worth nothing in the future because anyone can see that, if your wallet is big enough, you can breake those bitcoins.
DJ: And then, what did you do then?
F1k: I went back to IRC, a really old way of chatting in a big room. WE had a specific channel for that coin, so I went there. It turned out that others had allready taken over the project, the developer had allready passed the project on. Then I offered my help as having expirience with legal and media contact, asking if I could help.
DJ: So you became the spokesperson?
F1k: Not officially, I was never granted that title.
DJ: hmm, maybe you should pay enough coinye's to get that title
F1k: Well, that's funny: for my defense I created a Coinye wallet address, specially to accept donations for the legal defense. And I amazingly received more then half a million Coinye for that defense.
DJ: wow. And how much is that worth in Euro?
F1k: That's a tricky calculation. You need to take what Kanye had to pay his lawyers, then take the ammount of Coinye's currently mined, and then devide those two - then you get a general idea of what it's worth.
DJ: And, do you know how many coins have been mined, I mean, you are the spokesperson.
F1k: No, sadly I do not.
DJ: Okay, so you received a letter anrd since you're spokesperson you may not have been adressed personally,
F1k: No, it was assigned to me personally, it reads: Robbie, then my other 3 birthnames and then my last name.
DJ: so, my goodness, and what's their demand?
F1k: That we stop with the coin.
DJ: I understand, but these are Americans and Kanye West isn't the most friendly (F1k: and understanding, if we are to believe South Park) so what do they ask if you continue? What do you need to pay?
F1k: He wants a jury to decide that, but he's aming for an ammount to scare others off, so it will probably be a number of millions.
DJ: You mean scare off so other people will think "ohh, never mind, let's move on if we need to pay that much money".
F1k: The best joke in it is that I have nothing with America, the coin has nothing with America, so why they're dragging me to court in New York is everybody's guess.
DJ: Well, then you'll need to be extradited by the Dutch state
F1k: That luckaly only goes in criminal cases, this is a civil suit.
DJ laughs. So, what are you going to do now?
F1k: I replied to their E-mail that I'm waiting for a citation to get to my home address, and that I won't do anything till then.
DJ: And if you get the citation, will you go or are you still thinking about that?
F1k: IF I get the citation I will have to gothink about how I'm going to take on this challenge, but till then I'm not worried. Multiple lawyers have contacted me saying that they're willing to help me out. But I'm actually looking for one who accepts payment in Coinye. (DJ laughs)
