Cheers to everyone for the all fun. Yes, it was a fake. Remember, don't believe everything you hear on the internet. Wink

The messy details: I emailed Amazon with my question that I showed everyone here. They then responded yesterday and it was a breeze to use HTML edit to give it a few juicy details.

Here is the real email!

Hello,

Thanks for writing to us.

We don't accept bitcoins as a payment method on our website at this time.

We accept credit cards, debit cards, payment from U.S. checking accounts, Amazon.com Gift Cards, Amazon Payments Stored Balance, and the Amazon.com Store Card. Here are the credit cards we accept:

-- American Express
-- Diner's Club (U.S. billing addresses only)
-- Discover
-- MasterCard
-- Visa, Visa Electron, and Visa Check Cards
-- Eurocard
-- JCB
-- NYCE
-- STAR
-- China UnionPay (credit card only)

You can learn more about these payment methods on our Help pages:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html/?nodeId=513058

However we consider your suggestion to accept bit coins as a payment method.

Customer feedback like yours is very important in helping us continue to improve our website and services. I appreciate your thoughts, and will be sure to pass your suggestion along.

We look forward to seeing you again soon.

Best regards,
Hariprasath S.

Merchants like Amazon accepting bitcoins in future means they are accepting it as a major currency. For consumers, their transaction costs will be reduce. Other merchants may also think to accept it. Good news

OP is the guy that jumps up on the table dancing half-naked at the Christmas party and ends up with his foot in the punch. Spoils it for everybody. Good going, OP.

Amazon is not going to stand by while the world passes them by. It's only a matter of time before they HAVE to accept Bitcoin to remain competitive.

1. Get a customer support mail about anything from amazon.
2. Use web designer tools in your browser to change the content of the mail.
3. Write whatever you bloody want.
4. Screenshot it, upload to bitcointalk.
5. Make people believe it.
6. Huh
7. Profit.

Is this true?
Atleast the link is broken, I'm skeptical.
Found nothing when I -googled- it either.
