Seems there is no separate section for Satoshi client as for other clients, strangely.

The operation thread is too technical for my level

As much as I like Electrum for altcoins I have nothing but Satoshi.

Question: If I do not wish to be too fancy with brainwallets, etc. at basic operation all I need to back up is the current state of the wallet.dat file, and that's it? So, I sent or received a payment, client sync with the network, green check mark appears and that's it?

Quickstart guide and more than enough guide.
Bitcoin mining is now a specialized and very risky industry, just like gold mining. Amateur miners are unlikely to make much money, and may even lose money. Bitcoin is much more than just mining, though!

Something too easy, rather. This isn't the right subforum for it, try asking in techincal support.
