don't waste your time with cpu mining, there's already a gpu miner ready for the launch, see cudaminer thread... They are getting 130 mhs with a gtx 780...

Mining on DigitalOcean should not be very profitable. I tried with quarkcoin, and I get only 25-30 kh/s (1 core for $5).
With MS Azure (I have a special offer), I can get 320 kh/s (8 cores).

Exactly! Too bad I cannot get my money back from Digital Ocean

Mining on DigitalOcean should not be very profitable. I tried with quarkcoin, and I get only 25-30 kh/s (1 core for $5).

1 Core on DO gets about 70-80 kh/s.
8 Cores ~ 630 kh/s.

e.g.
[2013-02-06 12:06:46] thread 1: 787919 hashes, 81.58 khash/s

This guide was published before the keccak cudaminer was available. Unfortunately the initial launch failed but the cpuminer source was officially released, which gives GPU miners advantage due to the cudaminer update.

I for one definitely cloud mine MAX as soon as available -- nobody knows whether the gpu miner implementation will work flawlessly as is right after launch.

I have a problem with the

wget https://www.dropbox.com/s/1xapc0zpcmm1gtb/maxcoin-cpuminer.zip

after downloading and running

unzip maxcoin-cpuminer.zip

I get an error:

end of central directory not found, either this is not a zip file, or it constitutes one disk of a multi directory file.

Can you repost the CPUminer?

Thanks

Seems like your VPS didn't download the file correctly as it appears corrupted.

I just tested it on my test instance and it works fine; wget and unzip it again.

May be devs will come with last minute keccak tweak that would screw cudaminers??

YOU DON'T NEED TO CREDIT YOUR ACCOUNT!!!!

I'm not sure why people are doing this...

Just use voucher code SSD2014 for $10 free credit!

Thank you very much, added to main post.

However, this is an extra voucher, is it? Meaning you deposit for the first time with the coupon, then get $10 extra.

If I recall correctly, I still had to enter my card details, but entered the voucher before depositing any money.

I got to use all of this $10 credit before having to pay any real money.

I think I'm up and running, can someone please verify?

Pool:   stratum+tcp://stratum.poolers.org
PORT:    3345

Code:

Binding thread 0 to cpu 0
Binding thread 1 to cpu 1
Starting stratum on Stratum+tcp://stratum.poolers.org:3345
Stratum connection failed : connect () timed out!
...retry in 30 seconds
Stratum connection failed : connect () timed out!
...retry in 30 seconds
Stratum connection failed : connect () timed out!
...retry in 30 seconds

and it repeats like that.

I guess this is because the pool isn't up yet, of course. So if I just keep this running, when the pool is up it should just start mining automatically?

Thanks

Yeah, your maxcoin-cpuminer is working correctly. Once you feed it with a correct pool after launch it will indeed mine properly.

Thanks! What do you mean by "Once you feed it with a correct pool after launch"? The max.poolers.org isn't a correct pool? If not, which one is, and how do I switch to it?

Thanks!!!

Official pools will be posted in the release thread / on the official site. maxcoin.co.uk states one pool's link for now: https://maxcoinmine.com (status: OFFLINE at the moment).

So I guess rather than the new cpu coin, maxcoin is actually going to be the new/only nvidia coin?  Huh
