BTCBTCBTC NEW BISQ DISCUSSION THREAD  BTCBTCBTC
(Replaces old one:   bitsquare.io - The P2P Fiat-Bitcoin Exchange  https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=647457.0 )

Bisq is an open-source desktop application that allows you to buy and sell bitcoins in exchange for national currencies, or alternative crypto currencies.

It is based on a P2P network in which each user hosts a node so that each user is fully in control of their data, funds and private keys at all times.

Unlike traditional online exchanges, Bisq is designed to be:

Instantly accessible – no need for registration or approval from a central authority.
Decentralized – there is no single point of failure. The system is peer-to-peer and trading cannot be stopped or censored.
Safe – Bisq never holds your funds. Decentralized arbitration system and security deposits protect traders.
Private – no one except trading partners exchange personally identifying data. All personal data is stored locally.
Secure – end-to-end encrypted communication routed over Tor.
Open – every aspect of the project is transparent. The code is open source.
Easy – we take usability seriously.

Bisq is for those who do not want to forfeit control or privacy to a central authority in order to trade with other individuals. We regard financial transactions as a form of private speech that should be protected from surveillance by banks, governments, and other institutions.

Getting Started with Bisq guide at https://docs.bisq.network/getting-started.html

Bisq is an open source project. We need your help! Please join the community (https://bisq.network/community/) and find out how you can contribute.

Check out our roadmap (https://bisq.network/roadmap/) to see how Bisq keeps getting better.

Bitcoin is uncensorable and unstoppable. Bitcoin deserves uncensorable exchanges.

Centralized exchanges can be hacked, censored or regulated out of existence. Bisq aims to be as decentralized and uncensorable as possible so that it can work everywhere. By never holding user bitcoins it also eliminates most of the risks of being hacked by not presenting a centralized honeypot target to hackers.

As a reminder of how large that risk is, here is a list of some large Bitcoin exchange hacks and security issues:

March 2014 - Mt. Gox exchange hack with $473 million stolen
January 2015 - Bitstamp exchange hack with $5.1 million stolen
August 2016 - Bitfinex hack with $66 million stolen
January 2018 - Coincheck $534,800,000 stolen
February 2018  - BitGrail $195,000,000 stolen
April 2018  - CoinSecure $3,300,000 stolen
June 2018 - Coinrail - $40,000,000 stolen

....and many, many more. For a much longer list check out:

Crypto Exchanges Are Being Censored In Iran
https://www.coindesk.com/iran-crypto-exchanges/

Yet another reason why we need uncensorable exchanges like Bisq!

As you can see here https://coin.dance/poli there's a significant number of countries that restrict or block Bitcoin trading. In many cases these countries, because of high inflation and capital controls are where Bitcoin is most needed and could help more people.

China, Turkey, India, Iran... all need an exchange that cannot be blocked, censored or regulated out of existence.

Bisq v0.7.1 is out, with important network reliability fixes, a new payment method and more.

Get it at https://bisq.network/downloads

https://twitter.com/bisq_network/status/1014562422391271429

https://github.com/bisq-network/bisq-desktop/releases/tag/v0.7.1

Release notes
This release adds acknowledgment status for trade, offer and dispute messages. This gives the user more information on each message status (message arrived, arrival confirmed, sent to mailbox) during its trade/dispute experience. Besides lots of bug fixes, MoneyGram was added as a new payment method and the account field for Argentinian banks support now non-standard account identifiers.

Payment methods
Add new payment method: MoneyGram

Bisq Market Making How To. How to kick-start a new market on Bisq.

*Step 1: Basic Liquidity*

-Market maker creates 1 buy and 1 sell offer at market +/- 5%

-Market maker contacts other potential traders in local community

*Step 2: Increased liquidity*

-Market maker creates 3 buy and sell offers eg:

Bisq is a decentralised exchange that doesn’t use a blockchain, doesn’t require some weird native token, never did an ICO, and actually works.

I think Burst is still listed in bisq, right? I will call upon the support of the Burst community to support you. I cant make any promises because I have no influence there. But maybe I can ask someone who does.

Thank you for making bisq.

You guys done it right, I have to say. Personally, I am still on Localbitcoins, just only because I find it a bit easier to deal with people I already trust, but the fact that you still have to trust LBC's servers not to die on you, is a huge advantage you guys will always have. Some day, if your platform doesn't actually require us to be online all the time (I just don't like the idea of leaving it open while I sleep), you might find more people like me making the migration.

But for now, this is decentralised P2P at its best. I like.

Thank you very much! Please do.

If we all focus on that date (Sept 20th) we can demonstrate how useful Bisq can be with higher liquidity.

Hi!

Actually Bisq does not require you to always be online. You can connect, take an offer and then turn off your computer and come back later. You only need to stay online if you want your available offers to be visible (ie: you are a market maker).

Thankfully this will soon also be easier thanks to the new API which will alllow mobile apps to connect remotely to your Bisq node. That way you can leave a small computer with Bisq running and get notifications or place orders from your mobile app.

If you frequently trade on Localbitcoins... I highly encourage you to try Bisq on September 20th as part of the kick-start. It's only one day and you have little to lose.

I agree. This is really a great concept and needs to be spread more. Right now only a handful of people are trading on it and its hard to trade less common pairs, like RUB, IDR, etc.

If more people get behind a decentralized exchange like this and pick up on community based projects, we'll see bitcoin being put to the use that was actually intended for it--P2P exchange without being monitored or charged commissions. Bitcoin kind of lost its original intent a bit I think when it turned into another "get rich quick scheme" last year as everyone thought they could make a bunch of money off it.

I also use Localbitcoins.com mostly because its easier once you establish a relationship with certain people. But it could just as easily be done here too, and the prices are very reasonable.
