BTCBTCBTC NEW BISQ DISCUSSION THREAD  BTCBTCBTC
(Replaces old one:   bitsquare.io - The P2P Fiat-Bitcoin Exchange  https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=647457.0 )

Bisq is an open-source desktop application that allows you to buy and sell bitcoins in exchange for national currencies, or alternative crypto currencies.

It is based on a P2P network in which each user hosts a node so that each user is fully in control of their data, funds and private keys at all times.

Unlike traditional online exchanges, Bisq is designed to be:

Instantly accessible – no need for registration or approval from a central authority.
Decentralized – there is no single point of failure. The system is peer-to-peer and trading cannot be stopped or censored.
Safe – Bisq never holds your funds. Decentralized arbitration system and security deposits protect traders.
Private – no one except trading partners exchange personally identifying data. All personal data is stored locally.
Secure – end-to-end encrypted communication routed over Tor.
Open – every aspect of the project is transparent. The code is open source.
Easy – we take usability seriously.

Bisq is for those who do not want to forfeit control or privacy to a central authority in order to trade with other individuals. We regard financial transactions as a form of private speech that should be protected from surveillance by banks, governments, and other institutions.

Getting Started with Bisq guide at https://docs.bisq.network/getting-started.html

Bisq is an open source project. We need your help! Please join the community (https://bisq.network/community/) and find out how you can contribute.

Check out our roadmap (https://bisq.network/roadmap/) to see how Bisq keeps getting better.

Bitcoin is uncensorable and unstoppable. Bitcoin deserves uncensorable exchanges.

Centralized exchanges can be hacked, censored or regulated out of existence. Bisq aims to be as decentralized and uncensorable as possible so that it can work everywhere. By never holding user bitcoins it also eliminates most of the risks of being hacked by not presenting a centralized honeypot target to hackers.

As a reminder of how large that risk is, here is a list of some large Bitcoin exchange hacks and security issues:

March 2014 - Mt. Gox exchange hack with $473 million stolen
January 2015 - Bitstamp exchange hack with $5.1 million stolen
August 2016 - Bitfinex hack with $66 million stolen
January 2018 - Coincheck $534,800,000 stolen
February 2018  - BitGrail $195,000,000 stolen
April 2018  - CoinSecure $3,300,000 stolen
June 2018 - Coinrail - $40,000,000 stolen

....and many, many more. For a much longer list check out:

Crypto Exchanges Are Being Censored In Iran
https://www.coindesk.com/iran-crypto-exchanges/

Yet another reason why we need uncensorable exchanges like Bisq!

As you can see here https://coin.dance/poli there's a significant number of countries that restrict or block Bitcoin trading. In many cases these countries, because of high inflation and capital controls are where Bitcoin is most needed and could help more people.

China, Turkey, India, Iran... all need an exchange that cannot be blocked, censored or regulated out of existence.

Bisq v0.7.1 is out, with important network reliability fixes, a new payment method and more.

Get it at https://bisq.network/downloads

https://twitter.com/bisq_network/status/1014562422391271429

https://github.com/bisq-network/bisq-desktop/releases/tag/v0.7.1

Release notes
This release adds acknowledgment status for trade, offer and dispute messages. This gives the user more information on each message status (message arrived, arrival confirmed, sent to mailbox) during its trade/dispute experience. Besides lots of bug fixes, MoneyGram was added as a new payment method and the account field for Argentinian banks support now non-standard account identifiers.

Payment methods
Add new payment method: MoneyGram

Bisq Market Making How To. How to kick-start a new market on Bisq.

*Step 1: Basic Liquidity*

-Market maker creates 1 buy and 1 sell offer at market +/- 5%

-Market maker contacts other potential traders in local community

*Step 2: Increased liquidity*

-Market maker creates 3 buy and sell offers eg:

Offer to buy 0.05 BTC at market -1% / offer to sell 0.05 BTC at market +1%

Offer to buy 0.1 BTC at market -3% / offer to sell 0.1 BTC at market +3%

Offer to buy 0.2 BTC at market -5% / offer to sell 0.2 BTC at market +5%

*Step 3: Marketing*

-Once liquidity is in place it's time to attract takers

-Contact local Bitcoin social media groups

-Organize meetup/demos

-Create video tutorials

*Step 4: Liquidity Week*

-Once the market is active, you can give it a push with a liquidity week

You guys done it right, I have to say. Personally, I am still on Localbitcoins, just only because I find it a bit easier to deal with people I already trust, but the fact that you still have to trust LBC's servers not to die on you, is a huge advantage you guys will always have. Some day, if your platform doesn't actually require us to be online all the time (I just don't like the idea of leaving it open while I sleep), you might find more people like me making the migration.

But for now, this is decentralised P2P at its best. I like.

Hi!

Actually Bisq does not require you to always be online. You can connect, take an offer and then turn off your computer and come back later. You only need to stay online if you want your available offers to be visible (ie: you are a market maker).

Thankfully this will soon also be easier thanks to the new API which will alllow mobile apps to connect remotely to your Bisq node. That way you can leave a small computer with Bisq running and get notifications or place orders from your mobile app.

If you frequently trade on Localbitcoins... I highly encourage you to try Bisq on September 20th as part of the kick-start. It's only one day and you have little to lose.

I agree. This is really a great concept and needs to be spread more. Right now only a handful of people are trading on it and its hard to trade less common pairs, like RUB, IDR, etc.

If more people get behind a decentralized exchange like this and pick up on community based projects, we'll see bitcoin being put to the use that was actually intended for it--P2P exchange without being monitored or charged commissions. Bitcoin kind of lost its original intent a bit I think when it turned into another "get rich quick scheme" last year as everyone thought they could make a bunch of money off it.

I also use Localbitcoins.com mostly because its easier once you establish a relationship with certain people. But it could just as easily be done here too, and the prices are very reasonable.

Sorry OP, I should have clarified that yes, I'm generally a market maker when it comes to Bitcoin, which is what I appreciate Localbitcoin's functionality - I set the limits or choose to auto adjust and it's always worked fine for me. I generally only take offers from trusted traders.

That said, I have always kept an eye on Bisq, trying it several times, but I will definitely support this kick-start and perhaps even try it out on mobile (never tried the app yet) running up to Sep 20th.

I think it's quite all right for Bitcoin to find different uses. Power to those who would see it as an investment asset, store of value, or whatever. But yes, I think it would be a refreshing reinvigoration to see more people use Bitcoin the way it was intended to be. Strangely enough (or demonstratively perhaps?) we're now seeing people do just that because they're forced to, in economies that are increasingly pressuring people to seek alternatives for currency.

That's how we progress due to the overall lazy and ignorant nature of people. If you don't terrorize people as centralized exchange, people won't have any incentive to look for an alternative.

It's because of AML/KYC that people see no other option than to use decentralized exchanges. It's because all the thefts we read about that force people to use decentralized exchanges.

It's basically the same with fiat as well. If fiat was working perfectly and didn't lose value, and banks weren't greedy jerks, people wouldn't even use Bitcoin. By force they learn that they should look into non central alternatives.

BSV is not the real Bcash. Bcash is the real Bcash.

HOW TO LIST AN ASSET ON BISQ
https://docs.bisq.network/exchange/howto/list-asset.html

As a DAO and fully decentralized exchange Bisq makes no judgement and takes no sides on which assets/coins/alts it allows you to trade. If it meets a few objective requirements, you can just create a pull request and it will be listed in the next Bisq release.

September is here and Bisq trading activity is growing nicely!

With new payment methods included in 0.8 like Face-to-Face we could now try to kick-start new markets... especially in countries where local currencies have been plummeting this summer, eg: Turkey, Argentina, Brazil, South Africa.... they are the ones who can benefit most from Bitcoin adoption.

Let's also focus on our big September kick-start day:

Bisq September Market Kick-Start Day [September 20th]

On this day we hope to bring together as many Bisq traders as possible to simultaneously place offers on Bisq... hoping to reach 300 live offers! (Currently there's normally 150-200 live offers).

It's the best opportunity to see what Bisq will look like with increased liquidity. If you believe in the future of #DEX decentralized exchanges this is your chance to do something to help!

Hi OP, I haven't forgotten about the September 20th date, so it's nice to check in here on the same day you provide an update. Am glad you're really looking to market this idea to those countries you mention: they need a bigger, better alternative to localbitcoins. I'm also as I mentioned earlier very keen to diversify my options and get myself some of that $BSQ.

What have the volumes been like from bisq lately?

What have the volumes been like from bisq lately?

Volumes have grown a lot... but most of it was a huge rise in the XMR/BTC market...

EUR/BTC has been stable over the summer: https://coin.dance/volume/bisq/EUR
USD/BTC has dropped considerably: https://coin.dance/volume/bisq/USD
GBP/BTC is actually taking off with record volumes in August: https://coin.dance/volume/bisq/GBP

XMR volumes blew up over the summer: https://markets.bisq.network/?market=xmr_btc
...surpassing all fiat currencies.

Daily volume is still quite low compared to any large centralized exchange: https://coinmarketcap.com/exchanges/bisq/
...but the trend is very positive.

Thanks for the reply, I actually didn't know coin dance was tracking bisq volumes. Probably not very surprising to see XMR volumes pick up over decentralised p2p!

Now I'm wondering also if you might want to share a bit of insight into further trends on p2p, esp decentralised platforms like bisq. Might help drum up further awareness for the Sep 20 event, or at the very least create some awareness or just talk about something newsworthy.

I've sent you a PM, we can follow up from there;)

HOW TO LIST AN ASSET ON BISQ
https://docs.bisq.network/exchange/howto/list-asset.html

As a DAO and fully decentralized exchange Bisq makes no judgement and takes no sides on which assets/coins/alts it allows you to trade. If it meets a few objective requirements, you can just create a pull request and it will be listed in the next Bisq release.

Good idea. But the SEC wont be happy if you make those decisions lol.

Anyhow, did nixops from the Burst community contact you? I already contacted him in Reddit and he said he would get in touch with you.

I can contact him again and remind him in case he has forgotten. Are your contact details in Github? Ty.

A big part of why Bisq is a DAO is so that it doesn't care what the SEC, or any other government agency says.

Today we saw even Shapeshift.io give in to KYC/AML regulation. I know Erik... he hates KYC regulation. He fought it for years and even blocked from using Shapeshift.io any jurisdiction that enforced user data collection....

So why is he giving in now?

Because when you run a company you have a responsibility to your employees and investors. You cannot ignore legal risks and if you want to do any business in the Western world you cannot ignore US judges and US regulations. Even if you are based in Switzerland.

We believe that a DAO like Bisq (or like Bitcoin) based on FOSS can be more resilient. I'm sure it will be put to the test!

I have never used Shapeshift but I am surprised to see a service like that asking to require KYC/AML. It turns it into a membership only service in some way.

I think what Bisq does or wants to do better is still not really understood by people. If we keep Bitcoin and crypto trading and exchanging the way they were originally envisioned, which is P2P, and strictly without external involvement, then it doesn't matter what any agency says or does. We've already seen now how state restrictions, regional sanctions and embargoes have attempted to stop transactions - and faillng. Might stifle growth somewhat but if people find out they can use solutions like Bisq for safer, more private exchanges... eventually the governments will realise that too.

I was just saying in a separate thread how the Shapeshift move seems incredible ill-advised. But yes, it's more to do with the company's direction (we saw already how Shapeshift helped enforcement stop the movement of stolen funds and that's great but it sets a precedent).

You're right too - no DAO is immune, but we have had a good plenty of times to see it being put to the test at least with Bitcoin. Let's see how Bisq holds up!

How to Buy Bitcoin Without Disclosing Your Identity
https://news.bitcoin.com/how-to-buy-bitcoin-without-disclosing-your-identity/

Quote
Bisq is a decentralized P2P network that we’ve previously profiled. It enables BCH, BTC, and numerous other cryptocurrencies to be bought and sold without needing to first scan your passport, driving license, disclose your financial history, and attest to the origin of your bitcoins. It’s how a cryptocurrency marketplace ought to be in other words. To access it, users need to download Bisq’s desktop software which is open source. As its FAQ explains, “Bisq does not know the traders. No data is stored on who trades with whom. Bisq does not require registration. This means privacy is maintained, there are no “approval” wait times, and identity theft becomes impossible.

Well, let's hope we get a few more traders or even just curious watchers joining up for the 20th in just over a week's time. A third of a million dollars on one day yesterday is a major landmark (curiously, if this volume had been at ATHs, it would have been over a million dollars!).

Anyway, this just fresh off the press. Would have shared it in Press section but since it's not exclusively Bitcoin related, maybe we'll just leave it here for readers Smiley Thanks for your and others' time, OP.

I understand (more or less) how your system works

But this is not the direction in which decentralized exchanges should evolve as I come to think. Actually, I wouldn't call your system an exchange as there is no competition between traders that we see on centralized exchanges. So my question is, have you ever considered using Lightning Network or similar technologies to implement something more like a regular exchange with full-fledged orderbooks but without a central server (read, a third party) receiving, accumulating and sending all this data? In other words, a personal desktop wallet would serve as a part of a distributed exchange, with updates and order execution close to being instant. I understand that this requires strong cooperation between the developers of different coins in order to be done in practice, but it might be helpful to build an MVP enabling real time exchange between two currencies specifically modified to enable this feature on the blockchain (wallet) level

Absolutely. Lightning integration is on the wishlist and there is even a bounty out for the first step towards it:

In my mind Bisq with full lightning integration would split trades into tiny payments so that the security deposit could be re-used for each and thus keep the security incentives while reducing friction.

On the Bitcoin-to-fiat side this would take advantage of some API-enabled instant payment solution. In Europe the regulatory roadmap forces banks to:
 1. Open their APIs to 3rd parties
 2. Implement SEPA Instant payments

So Bitcoin-fiat micropayment powered, lightning-network enabled exchange should be very possible in 2019/2020.

...but if you don't want to wait that long, combining  ⚡️lightning network ⚡️ with a pegged coloured coin (like USDT or similar) would allow very fast atomic swaps.

I don't know if it's FUD or a valid concern... but today all the talk is of USDT (Tether) losing its peg to the USD and crashing Bitfinex.

It could just be an irrational panic... but it illustrates the dangers of relying on a centralized third party. The truth is that even if USDT is fully backed by USD in a bank account, it would only take a couple of banks deciding to no longer work with Bitfinex for USDT to become unconvertible and unredeemable.

Discussion about the Bisq DAO with Eyal Ron
https://youtu.be/UbBLSyaDiK0

The DAO is closer to reality than ever with October testnet and December mainnet launches scheduled.

It will be very interesting to see how it works in reality. It's easy to imagine things in theory... but no battle plan survives past the first bullet fired.

Coindesk on Bisq
A Decentralized Bitcoin Exchange That's Almost Decentralized
https://www.coindesk.com/bitcoin-decentralized-exchange-dex-crypto-bisq-dao-monero/

Quote
Of all the cryptocurrency projects describing themselves as "decentralized exchanges" (DEXs), Bisq may live up to the description better than most.

Operating since 2016, when it was originally called Bitsquare, the Bisq DEX runs directly on the user's computer, rather than a hosted site, as many of the self-described DEXs currently do. And while DEXs like Airswap and Everbloom are operated by startups, Bisq is a strictly open source project developed by a grassroots collective.

Manfred's proposal for a new trade protocol:

Proposal for new trade protocol without the need for arbitrators #52
https://github.com/bisq-network/proposals/issues/52

Quote
We suggest a change of the current Bisq trade protocol which is based on a 2-of-3 MultiSig deposit transaction where an arbitrator is the 3rd key holder who helps in case of disputes and can make the payout transaction with one of the traders. The new protocol would be based on a 2-of-2 MultiSig deposit tx where only the 2 traders are the key holders. We would delegate the dispute resolution (which in fact is 99.9% customer care work and no real disputes) to the users as first step and if they cannot resolve the issue themselfes to mediators. In case the peers do not cooperate to sign the payout transaction as defined in the trade contract there is an option for the victim of getting reimbursed for the lost BTC amount by the BSQ stakeholders.

Is there something (a filter or algorithm) filtering the fraudulent SEPAs, at the country/bank/IBAN. Including a payment option that opens the doors to the chargeback/dispute is a little risky for people.
I see Bisq has an arbitrator system but nowadays with a SEPA it usually take 24-48h

I see Bisq has an arbitrator system but nowadays with a SEPA it usually take 24-48h

Almost 6000 SEPA Euro trades have happened on Bisq so far. Approximately 1% of those have gone to arbitration. 0 of them have been due to chargebacks.

It is true that in theory SEPA transfers are not final and can always be reversed.... but in practice bank policy in Europe is to allow cancellation within the first 24hrs and after that only ever reverse SEPA transfers in cases of fraud or crime. So it is very, very rare and if it happens more than once to the same account then bank will probably close the account...

Even so it is possible to block onion addresses on Bisq or "blacklist" payment accounts... but this block or any other reputation-based security feature is by nature incomplete as there is no permanent identity on Bisq.

I should clarify that we have had chargebacks and payment reversal problems with other payment methods. That is why CashApp and Venmo were removed as payment options from Bisq.  (https://twitter.com/bisq_network/status/996124591662694400)

IMPORTANT: Cash App and Venmo payment methods have been blocked due to chargeback activity
https://bisq.community/t/important-cash-app-and-venmo-payment-methods-have-been-blocked-due-to-chargeback-activity/5459

We just have not had this problem with SEPA. I'm not saying it is impossible, just quite difficult.

Is there no reputation system? How do you determine who is trustworthy when dealing with fiat payments? Even bank wires are reversible.

Also, general question about the feasibility of KYC. IDEX is enforcing mandatory KYC, which shows that it's not truly decentralized. Is there any way this could happen on Bisq?

Almost 6000 SEPA Euro trades have happened on Bisq so far. Approximately 1% of those have gone to arbitration. 0 of them have been due to chargebacks.

Okay, that sounds promising. Any statistics for US bank wires? I'm looking for an alternative to Localbitcoins. High premiums with no KYC was justifiable. Less so now...

There's no centralized reputation system, but your Bisq client keeps a record of all the people you have transacted with so you can create a web-of-trust of sorts or block onion addresses of unreliable trading partners.

Regarding KYC, all current Bisq contributors are not only opposed to it, but determined to make it impossible to apply. We don't want to rely on good intentions ("Don't do evil") but rather want to make the system so that KYC or data gathering is physically impossible ("Can't do Evil").

I don't have the full data for USD transactions, but will try to get you as much detail as possible soon.

So far I can tell you that there have been 3,495 USD trades. Most using Zelle, but popular payment methods include Chase Quickpay, National Bank transfer and Cash Deposit. Face-to-face transfers are only just getting started. Venmo and CashApp were disabled as payment methods after a few chargeback issues.

Okay, that sounds promising. Any statistics for US bank wires? I'm looking for an alternative to Localbitcoins.

Here are the stats for September 2018:

Out of a total of 958 trades, these were the top payment methods used and number of trades for each.

Altcoins  372
SEPA  213
Zelle  125        [US]
Faster Payments  56
Revolut  95
National Bank tx  21   [US]
Interact e-transfer  44
Cash Deposit  16   [US]
Chase QuickPay  0  [US]
MoneyBeam (N26)  6
Swish
F2F  4  [US]
US Postal Money Order 5  [US]

In the last 6 months there's been 100 US national bank wire transfers. 0 chargebacks. 2-3 arbitration cases, all due to errors. It is still early days as volumes are low... but it looks pretty safe so far.

Volumes have been exploding recently:

https://coinmarketcap.com/exchanges/bisq/
https://coin.dance/volume/bisq

Obviously volatility spurs trading... but normally $ voolume is highly correlated with price, so in a bear market we should expect total volumes to fall. However Bisq seems to be attracting many new users...

Absolutely no error message? There's a known issue with antivirus software blocking Bisq. You can whitelist it or disable temporarily but before doing that make sure you got the right client (0.9.1). Get the latest release from github, otherwise ask your question in the bisq community forum: https://bisq.community/c/support . Slack's probably the quickest.

Time for the DAO to take over
https://bisq.network/blog/let-the-dao-work/

Dear Bisq community,

With the successful launch of the DAO, Bisq is entering a new phase. The bootstrapping phase where founders are steering the project forward is over, and the Bisq DAO is now the infrastructure which enables that Bisq is managed by its stakeholders and contributors. The DAO was envisioned from the very beginning of the project. It was also clear from the beginning that the founders need to step back to ensure that the project can develop to its full potential as a decentralised organisation. We see in all crypto-currency projects where the founder is still around that those projects suffers from some sort of centralisation. Satoshi did Bitcoin a great favour by stepping out. Bitcoin would not be the same if he would be still around as an authority, and Bitcoin developers would not be able to develop their full potential. Of course such events might be a bit disruptive and challenging for some but it really should be seen as that what it is: a necessary step to enable Bisq to be a decentralized autonomous organization.

So with all that in mind I had planned to step back from most of my roles in Bisq after the DAO was launched. It was planned as a slow fade-out to make it as least disruptive as possible. Unfortunately this plan was interrupted by some exceptionally stressful event just around the time when we launched the DAO: Bisq got attacked by a chargeback scammer. Instead of celebrating and resting a bit after the quite exhaustive work to get the DAO ready for launch, I spent overtime on fighting the scammer. With the stress level that event caused it became clear to me that I have to take more care of myself to not risk any serious health issues or a burnout by constantly working over my limits. Knowing myself to be not very good in handling work-life balance I realised I cannot make my departure as a slow fade-out, but rather I need to make a hard cut, otherwise it would get delayed indefinitely. Of course I will be still around for helping and answering questions but I will step back from all my roles and activities in Bisq (beside a few trivial ones like running a Bitcoin node).

So this moment might be a good occasion to look back to what we have achieved and look forward what is on our roadmap.

Bisq is the only really decentralised Bitcoin-Fiat exchange
-We have developed the first Bitcoin based DAO
-We built up a strong community of contributors
-We earned a great reputation and Bisq became a quite well recognised brand in the Bitcoin community
-Already more than 50% of Bisq traders are using BSQ after just a few weeks. So the DAO is not only working on the contributors’ side but is also accepted by our traders.

But there is more. Many interesting ideas and proposals are out and waiting for developers to set them into reality:

-New innovative protection tools against chargeback scam
-New trade protocol based on direct communication and mediators instead of arbitrators
-Ideas for an off-chain trade protocol
-Decentralised CFD for those who are primarily interested in speculative trading
-Automate trading with APIs
-Automate altcoin trading
-Integrate tx proof verification for Monero traders
-Add Segwit support
-Hardware wallet integration
-Add deterministic build

So you can see a lot of challenging work is waiting for talented developers who want to become part of Bisq and help to build the infrastructure Bitcoin deserves: a privacy protecting on-ramp which follows the principles of Bitcoin and not those of the banks.

If you are interested to work in a project that’s permissionless and non-hierarchical by design, Bisq might be your place.

Dear Bisq community,

We got a nice article in Coin Telegraph following Bisq Record volume.

https://cointelegraph.com/news/bitcoin-dex-bisq-sees-record-volume-after-localbitcoins-bans-cash

"Bisq, the DEX formerly known as Bitsquare, is a decentralized application facilitating crypto-to-fiat trades without a formal intermediary.  For the week ending June 22, the most recent period for which data is available, the platform handled $6.1 million, its best performance on record."

Many thanks to the community ! and if you are not part yet, join us here: https://bisq.slack.com

Below the last Q&A video on contributing to Bisq. You'll find usefull info about how to start contributing to Bisq as a Dev and non Dev and it also provide last numbers about trades and volums, that is doing pretty well with 9000 BSQ burned for trading fees in last 24 hours.

why is there a 2btc limit on crypto to crypto trades?

I believe it's a limit "per trade" and not "per day" or something.
When you start or take an offer, the limit is the maximum you can trade in one shot. But you can, of course, start or take as many offers as you want (as long it doesn't exceed the limit)

why is there a 2btc limit on crypto to crypto trades?

the 2 btc limit is to limit risks for arbitrators if they make a mistake and do a wrong payout. they have to pay that from their own pocket. it just happend a ew weeks ago and one arbitrator lost 2 btc becuase of that. thats a main reason why arbitrators are expensive, as they take serious risks

Hi guys I downloaded the app. I love it! Great concept, great execution.
My only comment is that there is very little volume, I saw few trades over $1,000 USD. I would love to trade larger amounts. I hope it keeps growing.

Hello there Bisq developers,

I was thinking about something recently and I guess that might be combined with bisq in some way:

I was testing the concept of "Cross-chain Atomic Swaps for Bitcoin and Ethereum" messing with this project here: https://liquality.io/

They offer "Atomic Swap between BTC, DAI, and ETH with minimal risk and fees, while maintaining control over your private keys". So maybe their concept of "Chain Abstraction Layer - CAL" could be implemented somehow to bisq's way of operating...

CAL's reference here: https://medium.com/liquality/the-missing-tool-to-cross-chain-development-2ebfe898efa1

IMHO Hash Time Locked Contracts (HTLCs) and Atomic Swaps would be a HUGE boost to bisq's further adoption...

1. Is BISQ truly decentralized?

2. Who are BISQs main competitors? What are they doing better?

3. Can I run a BISQ node and get rewarded coins for running it?

4. Can I invest in BISQ?
4a. By buying BSQ coins? How many coins are there? How was it created and distributed?
(I dont see BSQ coin listed on CoinMarketCap or CoinGecko)

5. Does BISQ have a marketing budget? I see a DAO cycle to request payments for contributions in BSQ
How big is the monthly budget?

Lots of questions, I will greatly appreciate anyone answering these,
Ill keep reading the documentation and internet to learn more

I'm looking for a DEX to fully support, I see a huge need for it

So many centralized exchanges have been hacked,
and this year we have seen many exchanges shut down,
and many exchanges have been forced by government to have KYC

Dear Bisq Community,

Bisq v1.2.5 is out!

1/ Mostly yes, check for the DAO principle.

2/ truly decentralized exchanges with no KYC, no other example in mind.

3/Yes but only if you have a trusted bonded role in the DAO

4/ Yes, you can also invest time in Bisq and get reward from your contributions, check bisq website, stats page.
also: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=68_DU1c0Cac

5/ There is no defined marketing budget, contributors can ask for a compensation on each cycle ( eg: one video, conference..)

Is there anyone who can answer a question and/or suggest something.

When I start the software, the operating system is lagging, and not just a little. It's like surfing the web with a browser and 1 Gb ram, even once it's synced. I believe my old 512 mo smartphone is more responsive sometimes.

Just to compare with mine. If you can start Bisq and open the task manager to see how many m/o is used. I'm almost 100% sure it doesn't come from Bisq but I have no more ideas where to look at. When the soft is syncing it's quite normal, but after not.

I'm using Win10 with 6Gb or 8Gb ram, (I don't remember), latest Bisq version.

Thanks in advance.

Edit:
Well, I installed the soft on another machine, still Win10, and I don't have a problem anymore.
Microsoft can be a real nightmare

Tip: use Linux (Debian or Fedora) instead!

It's more stable and safer while using your coins.

Cheers!

Thank you for your feedback guys, as stated on the Bisq v1.2.5 release:

"Lots of bug fixes and refinements. Security deposit minimums are increased to encourage smoother trades.
You can update through the software prompt."

February 2020 saw the second-highest number of trades take place on Bisq EVER.

Bisq v1.3.2 is now out.

This (planned) release improves wallet reliability and introduces support for Tor hidden services v3 (default for new data directories)...more privacy and quicker startup time!

With version 1.5.5 there are a lot of new things to improve but there is one I particularly like and it's about the change in the trading protocol. TYVM.

Without the trade ID, it really helps us to stay "under the radar".

When we had this before, it could make the bank think that the person was paying us an invoice and therefore could consider us as a business (and since banks don't allow businesses to use a personal bank account for their activity...). I had the case of a banker that I got on the phone (for something unrelated) and she asked me what those references were each time. I told her that my friends couldn't leave this field blank so they write random characters.

Even for the mediators, the trade ID is not something helpful to analyze a situation.

One thing that really needs to be improved is the use of resources because the client is really resource-hungry with the DAO synchronization even if there isn't a lot to sync
