hm. interesting, after installing bmminer880 on my S9 13.5T, put 650 freq and got 14Th, but funny fact is that chip temp dropped from 82 to 65 C, how is that? what is the stock voltage? is that consume less power now? btw. respect for that

btw: what does the message exactly mean: 3 hours until mining?
I have one S9 acting erratic and dropping a board now and then. So im playing with the freq. It reboots a few times and starts hashing, but just lost all 3 boards now, so ill try another freq. 637 it doesnt seem to like at all..

It might need one of the versions with higher voltage. There is a possibility from luck of the draw your boards just are not that good. hm. interesting, after installing bmminer880 on my S9 13.5T, put 650 freq and got 14Th, but funny fact is that chip temp dropped from 82 to 65 C, how is that? what is the stock voltage? is that consume less power now? btw. respect for that Yeah 650 is 14th.

actually i wanted to sort out why the chip temp decreased by ~10-15C, pls look at this: highlighted S9 was patched with bmminer880 and increased freq from 625 to 675. another funny thing is that hashboard temp is more than chip temp, how come? on non-patched S9 chip temp ~20C more than hashboard temp:

Hello Taserz, First, I'd like to say thanks for all the work you've done. Second, I was hoping you could help. I have a 13.5 S9 that I'm trying to overclock with your mods. I have followed the instructions on page one. I flashed the fixed frequency firmware (650) from Bitmain's website and I have replaced the stock bmminer with yours (880). After the mod, in the kernal log, I can see two different frequencies: Miner Type = S9 set_reset_allhashboard = 0x0000ffff set_reset_allhashboard = 0x00000000 set_reset_allhashboard = 0x0000ffff set_reset_allhashboard = 0x0000ffff Check chain[5] PIC fw version=0x03 Check chain[6] PIC fw version=0x03 Check chain[7] PIC fw version=0x03 Fix freq=650 Chain[5] voltage_pic=108 value=880 Fix freq=650 Chain[6] voltage_pic=108 value=880 Fix freq=650 Chain[7] voltage_pic=108 value=880 set_reset_allhashboard = 0x0000ffff set_reset_allhashboard = 0x00000000 Chain[J6] has 63 asic Chain[J7] has 63 asic Chain[J8] has 63 asic Chain[J6] has no freq in PIC, set default freq=650M Ooooooh you changed the clock speed... Is this right? If so, at which frequency is it running? Also, on the configuration page, I am only able to select between 550M, 600M or 650M. In another post in this thread you talked about making the changes on the advanced tab. I don't have that tab anywhere. Am I doing something wrong, or do I need to manually tweak other files through WinSCP? Thanks in advance for the help.

Quote from taserz in post one: - Go to minersip./cgi-bin/minerAdvanced.cgi and change the frequency of the miner. I would start at around 675mhz and run it for a few minutes and check for hardware errors.

Hi
Thank you for this.
I have installed the bmminer880 mod, using the auto-freq default firmware. I don't have in my house a bitmain 1600 psu. I have EVGA G2 Gold-1600 watts.
I am running one of my S9 13.5 at 700 , and its giving around 14.9 Th/s. Good stable for about 30 mins. Good temps below 86 for chip2.
At 725 it gave me a little bit more : ideal-15.6, avg: 15.3 Th/s- good stable for about 15 mins. Good temps below 87 for chip2.
At 750 it gave me a little bit more : ideal 16.159, avg: 15.7 Th/s - good stable for about 15-20 mins. Good temps below 90 for chip2.
Few hardware errors in two of the cards chain 6: 1 Hw-error chain 7: 7 Hw-errors chain 8: 0 Hw-errors
At 800 it gave me a little bit more : ideal 17.236, avg: 16.4 Th/s - good stable for about 15-30 mins. Good temps below 94 for chip2.
This one game me more hardware errors
chain 6: 40 Hw-errors chain 7: 45 Hw-errors chain 8: 3 Hw-error
It also seems the discarded increases a lot when running at 800, and the pool does not reach expected high values for hash rate. Maybe an observation issue... but just reporting.
I am afraid of increasing the Freq above 800. I will repeat the above tomorrow to try to measure the power draw at the wall. Will report if I can make it.
In any case This is AWESOME! Thanks!
- esr

800 is around the limit you can go on the S9 with 880. I mean you can go higher but the HW error rate will quickly climb to far and outweigh it. The errors rate looks good at about 1 error rate a minute after running it for some time it should steady out or drop too. If you ran 890 I bet the 800mhz would have close to no HW errors but would probably trip the 1600w psu and shut it down. Keep it at 880 for 1600w psu

well, i tried that bmminer880 on ~20 S9 13.5T and 14T models, so 15 are good, but 5 rest(only 13.5T) show Chip temp above 100C with even 650 freq in 1-2min after start. i dont understand what is the difference between that antminers, all have identical spec: S9_V2.54 HW: 16.8.1.3 Bmver: 2.0.0 Firmware: Fri Nov 17 17:37:49 CST 2017
any thoughts?

I have seen similar before and in some cases adjusting/tightening the connectors for the fans, and cards helped to resolved the problem. -esr

unlikely, if it would be some physical connectors issue, it would show same issue with stock firmware. taserz, do you have the same bmminer binary for S9 13.0T models?

minersip is the IP address of your miner I'm sorry. I must have misread the url. It works now. Thanks very much for the help. Out of curiosity, is there anything like this mod for the L3+? I found one by a dude named Blissz, but his links were down and the forum has been dormant since January. Thanks again.

checked today power drain with watt-meter, my results:
S9(13.5T) - freq 625 (13.5 TH) - 1495W S9(13.5T) - freq 700 (15.0 TH) - 1570W
is it safe to run freq 700 for a long time with Bitmain APW3++ 1600W ? with 1570W drain it is ~ 98% of max limit

Yeah it's fine I have had an s8 run at 1675 on bitmain apw3++ surprsingly you can quiet a bit over 1600w on some before it goes into protect.

Hi Tazers,
I tried to flash fix-650M firmware ("Antminer-S9-all-201705031838-650M-user-Update2UBI-NF.tar/gz") to my S9 (which has the default auto-freq Nov 2017 firmware), and I got this "Invalid Upgrade version" messages. The S9 rebooted itself and it still has the default auto-freq version. So the flash failed.
Could you kindly advise what should I do to flash the fix-650M ? Thank you very much.
have you solved this problem? i have several S9 13.5T (auto-freq Nov 2017) that report 100+C chip temp on this bmminer880, want to try it with fix-650M firmware.

then i install 650m firmware my chain 6 give a wrong hashrate. over 15k and some chips in chain 5-8kth. in old autofreq bitmain add some fixes Check Chain[J6] ASIC RT error: (asic index start from 1-63) Check Chain[J7] ASIC RT error: (asic index start from 1-63) Asic[13]=11336.400000 Check Chain[J8] ASIC RT error: (asic index start from 1-63) Done check_asic_reg Chain[5] Chip[62] middle Temp=80 Special fix Chain[5] Chip[62] middle Temp = 85 Chain[5] Chip[32] middle Temp=72 Special fix Chain[5] Chip[32] middle Temp = 69 Done read temp on Chain[5] Chain[6] Chip[62] middle Temp=81 Special fix Chain[6] Chip[62] middle Temp = 81 Chain[6] Chip[32] middle Temp=72 Special fix Chain[6] Chip[32] middle Temp = 67 Done read temp on Chain[6] Chain[7] Chip[62] middle Temp=77 Special fix Chain[7] Chip[62] middle Temp = 81 Chain[7] Chip[32] middle Temp=64 Special fix Chain[7] Chip[32] middle Temp = 62 Done read temp on Chain[7]
and all chip work well. and giving at total 13.5th how can i fix bad chip hesh in fixed firmware or apply special fix chain? i want to some overclock but i cant...

100C is normal if you're pushing it really hard on 880 with poor cooling but You should be having cooler temps. What Frequency are you running it at??? hi. i have some trouble with overclock.
[...]
Did you try to run the custom bmminer after flashing 650m or stop right there? Over 15th/s is good? I don't think I understand.
