I do not think this is surprising. Considering cyrpto currencies have been going over trillion levels back in December that is a HUGE number. For that much money invested in something new with tech based backing and people giving it value, it has news value.
With those news value more people get into it and we go into a cycle. However that can be bad too because with bad news of price going down more people go out as well and we get into another bad cycle. We go up with good news and go down with bad news.
