It's just ridiculous that some people waste time worrying about what other people are wearing, it seems that they are locked inside this tiny box being tought worthless values. When I see a bunch of people going to work in suits, I picture a bunch of sheeps.

He can wear what he wants or go dressed like a drug-addled tramp, just as long as he doesn't come off as one. It's not how he looks or what he wears but the the way he acts and the content of his words. If you had no idea what Bitcoin was, you still wouldn't after watching that and the few other videos of him I've seen.

What he said seemed pretty coherent. No, he didn't give a beginners talk on what Bitcoin was, but he did talk about how it can change society and where the problems are.

It seemed both rambling and incoherent to me, and I'm sure it sounded a lot worse to outsiders.

I saw him speak publicly and it was one of the worst presentations I have ever witnessed. There were many walk-outs. This is not someone who should be a spokesman for anything.

He certainly could think about putting more structure into his replies and semi-preparing his answers. He is clearly more than capable of giving the traditional type of straight-forward interview but, like bitcoin, he's disruptive and anti-establishment by nature.

I don't think there's anything wrong with being anti-establishment, so long as he doesn’t come across as a incoherent rambling fool.

Where was the presentation at?

Oggcamp, August 2012, Liverpool

Here are some other reviews of that presentation:

http://joind.in/talk/view/6918

It was a car crash that was painful to watch, but I did because I already had an interest in Bitcoin. I would have otherwise walked out also.

This was a family event and one of his prime examples of the use of bitcoin was to display a web site where women sell sexual services. It does not matter if your politics happen to agree that industry should exist and that bitcoin can enable it (I do), it just isn't an example you use at a family event. You find a better example.

Never seen anyone misjudge something so badly or do so little preparation.

i heard amir lost all his bitcoins. Sad

amir is clearly losing it.

is he on drugs? because he looks completely fucked up.

not a great spokeperson for bitcoin.

I agree that he was not a great spokesperson for Btc, however he did speak intelligently on it.

I'd like to know why it is that people willingly choose not to dress appropriately for a TV interview in which appearance is clearly a vital part of the presentation?

Juding him on a performance in 2012, is a bit rough. Those critiquing him likely wouldn't do it better.

Appearance isn't everything - judge on the content. Do you really want him to look like a bankster!? He looked like one of us; one among many, rather than representing a vested interest perpetuating exisiting power and wealth. Good luck to him I say.

Also, I swaer this thread is going in circles now. Repeat FUD and read again.

Why? He appears no different to then. Is it for some reason okay to give a terrible presentation that turns off more people than it inspired, as long as it was 2 years ago? If something about presentation style had been learned than that would at least be something, but no.

Agreed that most people wouldn't do it better, that's why public speaking is a useful skill.

Wasn't the BBC video this year? The five or so speeches I've seen him given have all been the same. Rambling and very poor.

I also have more respect for people who don't wear suits or go dressed like something they're not. A person could turn up in flip-flops, shorts and a Hawaiian shirt to give a presentation for all I care, but as long as they articulate their point across coherently and concisely. If I had no idea about Bitcoin, I still wouldn't after watching his presentations, except for maybe Bitcoin seems like it's used almost exclusively for avoiding tax and other such nefarious activity.

I think that was aimed at me, for criticising a presentation Taaki gave in 2012. Even though my point was that he was bad at it then and he is still bad at it now.

Yes, I thought the BBC interview was really good. It didn't pander to the bleeding obvious but rather tempted what is to come..

BTC represents a currency and then some, ALL of it is based on faith, as such you must believe in the system.  Humans are hard wired to not be attracted to things they feel go against their senses, for example things that smell bad, taste bad, feel bad, sound bad, or look bad.

Put it this way, stick to radio.

Yeah! He not a great spokesperson for Bitcoin community.

Why does he dress like a scruffy tramp if he so many bitcoins?

Im from the UK and agree, hes embarrassing, he may be a great coder, if so he needs to concentrate on that and let the people who are better at pr and communication do their stuff, like Andreas.

 Grin
I must agree with this, certain people may be great at one thing, but in every field you'll have someone who is more qualified to present it to the public, basically a spokesperson. The quality of said spokesperson quite drastically influences the view the viewers get on whatever subject he/she is presenting.
Bad spokesman - bad reputation.
Imo.
