The tables have been updated again. Analysis spotted 2 new users.

tokeweed and eternalgloom are merit sources for sure.

I have notice suchmoon, he is almost everywhere in the forum and i am not so surprised that he is the most generous merit giver, It got to show that he dedicates much time for the forum, because it's not easy to navigate through section of the forum and meriting some post. I will encourage to keep the good work.

I agree with you. suchmoon contributes to the forum evolve. His policy of merit distribution is evenly and just.

hmm, i never knew i was so generous. #134 with given merit to 107 users. Roll Eyes

As I can see, now you gave merits to 113 unique profiles. Well done.

Here's a piece of potential gossip.

It appears that within the past day or two, the number of merit sources has gone down from 120 to 119.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=merit;stats=sources

1) Self-Custody is a right.  There is no such thing as "non-custodial" or "un-hosted."  2) ESG, KYC & AML are attack-vectors on Bitcoin to be avoided or minimized.  3) How much alt (shit)coin diversification is necessary? if you are into Bitcoin, then 0%......if you cannot control your gambling, then perhaps limit your alt(shit)coin exposure to less than 10% of your bitcoin size...Put BTC here: bc1q49wt0ddnj07wzzp6z7affw9ven7fztyhevqu9k

I did see that "quickie" merit give away happen from QA on the WO thread within a short time of it happening, and even though I thought that such giveaway was a bit random, I would NOT have thought that by itself such random give away would have risen to the level of removing merit source status.

Of course, there is a certain level of full and complete discretion that an owner (such as theymos) has regarding merit source status - meaning that he does NOT even really need a reason to change or remove such status.... hahahahahaha.... but anyhow, assuming that the merit source removal was QA, unless theymos shared his rationale, none of us would really know if there may have been a multitude of factors (besides just the seemingly random WO thread give away), and the one incident (or handful of incidents that we might be able to identify) would have merely served as marginal facts (the straw that broke the camel's back type) to push theymos into such a merit source removal decision (again assuming that it was QA).

By the way, regarding the level of source merit status, I would have thought that theymos would engage in a bit of a predetermination about granting such high level of smerit sources to any member (such as prescreening) for a member who has a really high amount of smerits to distribute (such as 1000 every 30 days) because it can be quite a bit of work and seeming responsibility to be able to attempt to fairly distribute that many smerits every 30 days.

Just on a personal level, sometimes I just error on the side of giving smerits that I am thinking that the member or the post might not really deserve the smerit, but the post and the member is kind of the "best thing that I see at the moment," so I just send the smerit.. which ends up rising to the level of a charity merit or could be kind of considered as a random smerit give away.... so even a random distribution, such as the one that QA did does seem to go a step or two further than  my kind of charity distribution of smerit, it does not even seem like a bad thing to engage in some randomness, once in a while - but I suppose such scale of randomness creates a worse impression if it is announced as a random smerit distribution and also that so many smerits end up being sent to some members who just happened to be in the right place at the right time... which then might cause other non-receiving members to feel a bit disgruntled about the whole seemingly random incident.

It's possible that QA (if it's QA) asked to be removed. I doubt theymos would share the details though.

QuestionAuthority was last online more than 2 days ago, before theymos posted in the thread in which I mentioned QuestionAuthority's 5x 30 Merit "giveaway". Theymos didn't respond to my post, but I guess he saw it.
This was posted the next day (yesterday):
He should be removed as merit source in my opinion. He seems to be mistaking merit for candy that he will give to anyone who asks for it.

Theymos says this about it:
If they complain about amounts, tell them to complain to me. It's best if sources try to exhaust their source allocations, even if it means giving posts higher amounts than is typical. If you have 150 source merit and you only see 3 merit-worthy posts in a month, then I'd rather you over-give each of them 50 merit than let the merit expire. That way there are more people capable of sending merit, and the "merit economy" is less top-down.

The best solution to all merit problems is by increasing sources number and by decreasing the allocated smerit for each of them.
Some sources have a lot of smerit and they struggle to find the best posts to reward, which may be frustrating, and which could be the case for QA?
For me, this is the main reason that let me prefer to stay away from this hassle.

They can send more merits per post, which is what theymos has been saying all along. Perhaps they can ask to reduce the allocation if that puts too much pressure on them.

There is no hard criteria for a "good" post. Whatever you don't mind seeing on this forum is worth a merit I think.

The question that come to my mind is how much smerit a source could give in a row/repetitively without receiving (silly) remarks?

My record is 4 in a second:
Code:

Serious answer: I don't think there's a limit. As long as the posts are worth it, who cares about silly remarks?

In a row - like consecutive posts? Same user? Give until you run out or until you hit the 50 merit limit, as long as you think the posts are worthy Smiley

It doesn't mean that every not-totally-shitty post must get a merit. Obviously merit sources and other merit senders will prioritize. It's just that I don't think we can really run out of posts to merit.

Everyone needs to find their balance between how many posts they can read without stressing out and how many merits they need to send, and if they don't bring their sMerits to 0 then they need to increase their sending per post or lower the bar below "Shakespeare".

Another proof that you are an AI .
No human can give merit to 4 different users in one second.
Just curious how did you manage all this in one second??

My three posts on the first page have been updated again.

The analysis spotted another two merit sources:
1) Barcode_ (moderator of the chinese local board)
2) F2b (active in the french local board)

Here's a piece of potential gossip.

It appears that within the past day or two, the number of merit sources has gone down from 120 to 119.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=merit;stats=sources

And it was a big one, 1000 sMerits worth - the total went down from 23045 to 22045:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5030366.msg45811297#msg45811297

I'm gonna guess it was QuestionAuthority.

QuestionAuthority has confirmed that theymos removed him as a merit source:

Apologies to all concerned, I will no longer be handing out merit in this thread. Theymos removed me as a merit source because he disagreed with the way I spent my merit. I will leave this thread open and you can continue to post merit requests here if you like; however, I won’t be answering them.

Good luck to all.

CBH

but anyhow, assuming that the merit source removal was QA, unless theymos shared his rationale, none of us would really know if there may have been a multitude of factors (besides just the seemingly random WO thread give away), and the one incident (or handful of incidents that we might be able to identify) would have merely served as marginal facts (the straw that broke the camel's back type) to push theymos into such a merit source removal decision (again assuming that it was QA).

Undoubtedly, QuestionAuthority has a specific merit distribution policy. Smiley

Typically, he sends 20-30 merits in one transaction. His following post could probably be "the straw that broke the camel's back type":

Oh, I am going to do one thing before I sign off for now. Since most people are off work/school today because it’s the weekend, and there should be more people on line than during the week and I have too much merit laying around, the next 5 people to respond to this thread get 30 merit.

As I can see, he didn't send any merit since Oct 11, 2018.

Weekly update. The analysis didn't detected a new merit source this week. In addition, I published monthly statistics for October 2018.

As far as I can see, QuestionAuthority dropped to third place in this TOP-200 and is likely to be rated fourth next week.

Am generous goddammit. Ship ma merit bags out soon as they come in. theymos ~said to, after all. Started with 569.
I get complaints, see, 'why you so ungenerous, you must have a shed-load to give out'. 'y u not in Coin-1's list'
Wait, oh i see, the less merited your own posts are, the more generous you are perceived to be.
At least now us newbies know which ocelots to titivate.

Good work btw. With my limited source, 1 merit sent.
I know some merit sources on the list and I can say that most of them generous to distrubution but I know very well too, some of them really stingy. They want to take the merits to graveyard I guess.

My three posts on the first page have been updated again.

It was predictable that QuestionAuthority dropped to fourth place this week. Now suchmoon, dbshck and Foxpup are leaders of this TOP-200. Cool

The analysis detected mole0815 as a new merit source. He/she is mostly active in the german local board.

Don't pay attention to complaints you get. There are many merit sources which are still not present in this TOP-200. Eventually, all the merit sources will rise in the main table. Also, being in this TOP-200 depends on the amount of initial sMerits received by a user on the day the merit system is introduced.
