If we do that, the detractors will just complain about us spewing excess rocket fuel polution into the atmosphere, and adding to the growing collection of space junk.
Would be tragic if that bitcoin flag ended up piercing and breaking the ISS, too.

It wont stay in space . It will go up then come down. It will be in space for 30-60 seconds.

Transactions must be included in a block to be properly completed. When you send a transaction, it is broadcast to miners. Miners can then optionally include it in their next blocks. Miners will be more inclined to include your transaction if it has a higher transaction fee.

Then what's the point? Jeff Garzik wants to put a cube sat with a bitcoin node in space, to stay there almost permanently. Why do we need a flat up there for about a minute?

We are also working in that direction . Why not have two. Two is always better than one. Just in case one SAT goes down. The global Bitcoin community will have a fail safe

Your is designed to stay there for 30 seconds.  At least in your mind. How do you think is is a back-up for Garzik plan?

Rich people burning money (almost literally if one uses a rocket motor.)  I mean, who ever heard of such a thing?

For my part I am vastly more impressed with effort which actually help people, and especially those with no strings attached.  And yes, I've personally been fairly generous in this respect and expect to be so in the future if Bitcoin continues to be viable.

Not speaking of any users directly but This is why bitcoin prices are falling people come here to the forum for help and wanting to work with other people to advance the greatness of bitcoin . What they are met with is sarcasm and criticism instead of people saying “hey man” let’s get this done” . If bitcoin fails it’s because the people failed to do what was necessary for advancement of bitcoin. Seems like holders of bicoin are perfectly ok with just holding their bicoins and praying, crossing their fingers. Just hoping bitcoin makes it through another year. People give Bitcoin value and power. Without people bitcoin is just tiny little .dat file. I am trying to bring more people to bitcoin on a global scale thus increasing bitcoin prices.

Since when can FUD be positive or negative?
Good luck anyways.

I don't think this "cause" will advance bitcoin in the slightest. I apologize if my opinion somehow offends you.

I don't want to post a purely negative response without providing something constructive so...

If, for example, you started an information campaign aimed at helping new Bitcoin users properly secure their coins (teaching them about cold storage, offline wallets, etc.), I would be much more interested in donating.

If you aren't the sole controller of your private keys, you don't have any bitcoins.

I could put information on the live video feed pages with information that will helping new Bitcoin users properly secure their coins (teaching them about cold storage, offline wallets, etc.),

So when people tune in to watch the launch they would learn all about bitcoin

Thank you for your help

I think that most of us just can't figure out how burning millions of dollars to stick a flag in space for 30 seconds (flag - an visual emblem that people have to be able to see) will help bitcoin in any way. It may actually do harm, instead, since instead of people going, "Oooh, that's an interesting bitcoin project happening over there. I need to look into this bitcoin thing," they may  just think, "Stupid nerds got lots of money for no work, and are now throwing it away on stupid projects, like sending flags to space, instead of using that money to actually help people."

Not to be too negative because I like this idea and the OP's enthusiasm.  But lets also not exaggerate, sending a flag into space isn't likely to have people lining up to buy bitcoin.  It would be a quick 30 second news piece and then the world would move on.

Speaking of space,  Virgin Galactic has already received payments in bitcoin to send humans to space.  Sending a human in space and that human paid for the trip with bitcoin is a bit more exciting than a flag.  Even that Virgin story passed after about a day and the average person out there probably didn't go buy bitcoin because of it.

I'm sure the OP is going to be sending humans into space also.  Lot's of them!  Why not have a backup?  Anyway, after that the OP could well be setting up Bitcoin colonies on other planets or even astroids!

Of course getting a few mining rigs from BFL is a necessary first step.  (Good luck with that, BTW.)
