the last few weeks have been insane with the amount of trolls, so many new accounts with user activity <50  trolling all over the place on all boards, it is not a matter of only trolling but threads are full of spam, I get it you can share your point of view and without censorship, this is cool, but when you start repeating the same thing over and all over again for 10-20 pages you are just spamming and you bring the value of the discussion down and it becomes really disturbing.

Mods, Admins and Theymos please apply the noob restriction again to help prevent these trolls, they can still bitch as much as they want in the newbie section....

This is actually a good suggestion. The forum is being flooded with new trolls and spam coins/posts and so on.

I don't know what else we can do about them to be honest, I don't care about trolls but I think the spammers are starting to target old threads now too.

that is a bit harsh though, I would say 8 hours logged in and > 50  activity ? I know that we will be limiting legitimate members from posting questions or adding value to threads but something similar would really help limit the shills and trolls and spammers...

I think the newbie jail was a good idea for various reasons. I'd be in favour of it coming back with the same or similar rules as before.

Increase the time between posts at first to 10 minutes. You can't really make a quality response in a thread that has a few pages in less time than that.

It has really lowered the barrier to entry for everyone. Unfortunately that includes spammers and trolls. There's one guy in alt currencies who is constantly spamming about his stupid coin, I ban him, remove the thread/endless bumps/whatever and literally 5 minutes later he's back at it on a new account.

I think just reverting back to the old newbie rules is probably best because they kept the majority of the lazy spammers and bots away, the only other solution I can think of is making this site like a private torrent site but that isn't really realistic if you want to keep it public and let anyone join.

I have to admit that the newbie restriction was annoying at first, but it makes sense. You can't just post senseless crap right away. However, for you to get rid of the noob status, you need to post. So the new users just leave useless junk, such as "+1", just to get more activity points.

Exactly. Either bring it back completely, or just add some sort of restriction and we're good to go.

Yes, it does. If your post count is less than the activity you would otherwise have, your post count becomes your activity.

Since you're part of staff, I might ask you this here.
If we ran a poll on adding newbie restrictions back, would theymos go with it?

I doubt the poll would have an effect either way, he's just going to make up his mind then do what he thinks is best.
