I doubt the poll would have an effect either way, he's just going to make up his mind then do what he thinks is best.
So the community does not have much effect on the decision?

Even in the event that an attacker gains more than 50% of the network's computational power, only transactions sent by the attacker could be reversed or double-spent. The network would not be destroyed.

It doesn't seem that way

That's unfortunate. I and  (some) older members (or ones who have quite a high understanding of the bitcoin protocl) are getting tired of those posts. I can only imagine the amount of work that the moderators have to do now..

Thanks!
Since you're part of staff, I might ask you this here.
If we ran a poll on adding newbie restrictions back, would theymos go with it?
Theymos doesn't listen to polls, he only listens to logic. If you can convince him that no additional changes can be made to our tools to solve the problem and that restoring the restrictions is the only way, I'm certain that he will listen.

Hopefully someone more experienced will do the talk. The easiest path would be restoring the restrictions and (maybe) even make the requirements higher. Although there could be a better way to approach this.

I haven't been here for a long time (7 months to be exact) and I am just a regular user. I don't have a fancy product nor trust to show off with and I am getting tired of all those spammy, FUD spreading and just annoying topics all day, every day. It ruins BitcoinTalk for me and I really don't feel like going through multiple pages just to find a few (or just one) interesting topic.

Putting back the Newbie Restrictions would be a way of at least decreasing the amount of spam and bullshit the forum has to endure every single day.

I have to admit that the newbie restriction was annoying at first, but it makes sense. You can't just post senseless crap right away. However, for you to get rid of the noob status, you need to post. So the new users just leave useless junk, such as "+1", just to get more activity points.

The number of posts doesn't matter with regard to activity.
Yes, it does. If your post count is less than the activity you would otherwise have, your post count becomes your activity.
You are both wrong. It's min(14*time, posts) so if time spent on the site is less than the number of posts, then it counts the time. Vise versa. Nonetheless, people will post junk, so the newbie feature is pretty awesome.
