How about a website where you can create your own *coin just with few clicks.
For start, you need to fill out the form:
*coin name:
Number of *coins:
Over what time:
% to premine:
diff. adjustment interval:
... what else?

Fill out the form and system generates you a patched miner/client code, client config file an tar.bz2 it all together for a convenient download and install. (or push it to git?)

No more mining for someone else! Now you can be the boss and mine YOUR own coin! You will be a billionaire.
Think about the children! No more world hunger!

This is brought to you by you local friendly power company. "Thank you"* note is on its way: We love you too!)

Making your coin is about a day's business (give or take some), and I doubt the website will allow you to splice-in cool stuffs like escrow transaction type (like in GG) or a new PoW Sad

So, no need, but fun idea nonetheress ~__^

Don't listen to Lolcust, he created new *coins (sorry... *Gelds) using the best available create-your-own-*coin tool (MultiCoin) and has an interest in its not getting easier for his potential competitors.

I would like to see what EskimoBob proposes and more.  Anyone with an economic theory, not just programmers, should be able to start a coin with features chosen from off-the-shelf software modules and custom configuration.  The way to improvement lies through unfettered experiment.  I wrote about this a while back: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=29135.msg444863#msg444863

Can a change to the best-chain criteria protect against 51% to 90+% attacks without a hard fork?

A few different coins is ok for diversity, but I would dread the thought of thousands of different types of coins.  Just exchanging them will be a logistic nightmare.

While I understand how certain attitudes can be read into my words, I commented on specific description / implementation proposal in the OP.

Now, if you add awesomeness like "plugin economical models and features", it becomes more interesting a concept.

If Amazon did not pattent that yet, you could have a "mint in one-click" feature that generates a brand new blockchain with random features.

You see and ignore thousands of ads when you browse the web.  If someday there are thousands of cryptocurrencies, you will ignore most of them, too.  Whoever cares enough to promote one over the others will have the burden of catching the market's attention, the same as with any product.
