You were asked about exchanging BTC->USD conveniently, and you didn't say "CoinCard"? (Don't let the title fool you, it's really a "Get PayPal payment for bitcoins" service.

Mtgox is very inconvenient to use, specifically to get USD out of.

I am going to ask http://keepass.info/ about accepting Bitcoin donations (pagerank 7).

PS. I'll update the spreadsheet later today.

I'm going to propose the use of bitcoin to a couple firms.

I'll start with a classic web hoster: dreamhost.com but this will not be easy (big company, not easy to make own voice heard up to the management).

I'll try also with a smaller one: www.editarea.com, a similar hosting company which sells a service to create/mantain a web site using online tools, it's active in different countries (UK, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, etc), so I think that would be useful.

I've not read the entire thread: does someone have prepared a kind of template to use as a starting point to give to the merchants?

You can have a look at this, where I gave some pointers and linked to a successful message I would send. If I have time I'll work on a wiki page with some more info.

I've confirmed with the EFA that they will be adding Bitcoin donations.  It is a matter of when, not if, it occurs.  So noagendamarket should get his bounty for that soon.

I'll also be trying to convince Linux Users of Victoria (luv.asn.au) to take it on.  This would've been easier a few years ago when I was on the committee, but hey I can still bend a few ears.

I'm going to see if the guys at the Global Village Construction set would be interested in accepting Bitcoins, either as a payment method or for donations.

Semi OT: This video is quite impressive.

Someone, possibly a native english speaker, could try to write an article for submission to NaturalNews: while the site is oriented toward natural health, Mike Adams usually write about the broke US economic system and dollar problems, so he may be interested in promoting an healthy alternative.
They also have a very large shop.
I already sent them a suggestion to check out bitcoin but I find that a full-featured article could be more useful.

The page to contact the site is http://www.naturalnews.com/feedback.html

I'm going to see if I can get the shops at shop.gp2x.de and icontrolpad.com/order

EDIT: They have PageRanks of 3 and 4, respectively, and I'd suggest taking a look at their products (especially the Pandora).

That's great, but it looks like they don't have a PageRank and this is thus ineligible for a bounty.

We've been accepting Bitcoin for a little while now, but only have one or two customers thus far (which is extremely small considering our overall client base). If you know of anybody in need of hosting services, send them our way.

Incidentally, whilst I'm here, if anybody has any experience with Wordpress skinning or SEO (or both), please get in touch, we're willing to pay in BTC.

How would one pay with Bitcoin, I don't see anything on your site that indicates the option.

Incidentally, I think some forum users are working on a Bitcoin plugin for WHMCS.

I think the market for hosting for BTC is saturated, there are quite a few such services. It is to be expected that your BTC customer volume will be low now, it's a chicken and egg problem (people will join Bitcoin slowly if they're not accepted, shops won't accept them if few people use it). I hope your overhead for accepting Bitcoin is low enough that you can wait patiently until the egg hatches.

Okay, time to motivate people to do some work.

I am going to pay 10 BTC for every on-line shop and 5 BTC for every organisation that you convince to start accepting Bitcoin as a payment/donation currency. They have to put an information about that on their website and they have to be existing, established businesses/sites with a Google Page rank of at least 3. I am not going to pay you if you create your own shop overnight just for the sake of winning the BTC or if the website is totally not popular.

If anyone wants to join me in rewarding feel free - the more BTC offered the more people will hopefully move their arses.

EDIT: If you are going to have a go at some business/organisation/site let us know before you hit on them, so that we know that it is actually you who got them to accept Bitcoin. Please do so by posting here.

EDIT2: Please be reasonable and don't send silly spam to these entities; rather compose a tailored letter to each particular business. We don't want Bitcoin to be associated with spam.

EDIT3: I thought that was obvious, but: The reward is only valid for the places that switched after this thread was created and after you declared that you were going to convince someone.

Update: The pledges so far are:

Mahkul shops: 10, organisations: 5
BitterTea shops: 5, organisations: 2.5
Blitzboom shops: 2, organisations: 0
dirtyfilthy shops: 10, organisations: 5
cw shops: 1, organisations: between 0.1 and 1 (depending on size)
slush shops: 3, organisations: 0 (Available BTC: 97)
mrb shops: 100, organisations: 0 (Available BTC: 500)

Total (shops): 131BTC
Total (organisations): 12-13BTC

EDIT 4: Here is the spreadsheet for this thread (note there are two sheets - one for pledges and one for takers): http://www.editgrid.com/user/mahkul/Earn_BTC_for_promoting_Bitcoin
What about a physical business, that sells on ebay ?

Hey.. Skype Me.. Beffjaker
