The 1st Annual Monero Fantasy Football league was a great time, and again congrats to Jwinterm on the win.  With that being said, it's now time to gear up for another fun season of occasional, soul crushing regret and dank meme's.

PSA: to clarify... this is for American Football or better known as the 'NFL', also known as the 'No Flop League'.

As of right now we have a couple things to decide on:

1.Buy in:  I'm suggesting a buy in of around $50-100 in XMR, but I am going to leave it to the majority vote.  Let's discuss how much people are willing to throw in and I'll take a vote on this when it gets closer to game time.  Also, if people don't have any XMR they want to spend and want to use BTC instead, I guess I'm OK with it ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.  But since this is the "Monero Fantasy Football League" I would assume people who play would want to get a pay out in XMR; so just PM me and I can send XMR in the pot for you, plus post the tx hash here in the thread as long as you send me the buy-in equivalent in BTC.

2.Escrow:  Since we have had Jwinterm hold the "pool wallet" for... well literally every single event I've ever held, I say we use him as escrow. But if someone else wants to recommend someone to hold funds (that is trustworthy) for the league we can do that too since Jwinterm will be participating.  Multi-sig is also a possibility?

3.Draft Time:  This is flexible.  I still don't know my schedule for work and I'm sure everyone has to figure out what times they are available as well.  I went ahead and set the draft time for Sunday, August 26th @ 5 PM EST.  Let me know what day/time will work for people and we'll figure out a time everyone can dedicate at least 2 hours or so to drafting players.

1.Trophy:  Fellow Monerian eyejay_3 (on IRC) has graciously donated 1 bottle of a Monero edition Barolo that will be gifted to the winner and is still in the works of being made.  Import taxes are still TBD and will have to be paid by the winner if the winner chooses to receive the prize.

2.Scoring:  Yes yes yes... I've heard your concerns *cough*Hueristic*cough*cough* ... *agheem* and I will be using Yahoo this year.  As of right now, here is a general FYI of what the rules look like for scoring:

Yeah there are people I know IRL and from the forums who have shown interest, so I think we are going to definitely see a bigger league then last year.  With that being said, I think it's fair to make this first come first serve.

That's why I think it's pretty important to choose a buy in now and set a specific date/time on when to finalize the XMR/USD rate everyone should send in to the pot.

This is a good point... I'm ok with setting a flat buy in rate if it's ok with everyone else as well.  I'm ok with 1 xmr but let's leave it up to debate for everyone else.  Might be difficult for people we know IRL to front 1 xmr worth even at these prices.

Hey, glad your here again! Managing the bench can be the critical point in a close matchup. That was so close to the upset of the century last year.

AND those 2 are a serious one two punch in the face!

I will go ahead and say that everyone that has signed up as of right now is vetted for by me, just from talking on chat rooms, forums, etc. for quite some time (except lt8877, but that's just because he comes around during fantasy time).  I will make a disclaimer that you all will have to trust me that I'm not playing two accounts either on my SO's account.

Another disclaimer is that Spazzer is playing the league via a proxy fantasy player (another person close to me) and is splitting the winnings with that person 50/50 if he wins.

So with that being said, how should we go about vetting people in the future leagues from now on to make sure two teams don't collude together to get better players on one team to ensure winning?

PPR is the only way to play FF.  I really have no interest if it's not PPR as the OP states.  Sorry.

...and we really need to make sure 5pm Sunday is good as I'm trying to plan it into my weekend.

Also cutting a week is a very smart idea.  Shouldn't have the fantasy final when only a select few teams have something to play for.  No strategy there, just luck.

PPR is Points Per Reception. Honestly, I’m in the mind frame of “less is better”... so the less alterations we make to the league how it is set up is for the better. I suggest we keep PPR, keep kickers, and let’s change the playoff schedule to include 2 weeks for semi finals and final matches.

I’ll leave this proposition to a yay or neigh vote. I will post a poll soon.

PPR is points per reception, it is what I argued against last year as all you do is get the big money stars and root for them to get targets (it makes them worth too much). it's why the running backs that catch get massive amounts of points and put up 40 points in a week and really make all the other players a moot point.

Player Y in your scenario ia an outlier (it does not happen often and cannot be counted on) and they are called "Boom or Bust" and are a gamble to play. They can just as easily put up ZErO points.

It is fun to play them as a streaming option if you think they are going to have a good week and your gonna get Rekt, It gives you something to root for.

No I am not in the DR.. The team name came from a fantasy league I was in where all the teams were required to use a locale in the name and people just kind of distributed them all over the world and my co-owner picked the name for the alliteration.

Unfortunately I have not yet had the chance to travel there, though I would love to.

Edit #2: I looked in the settings for Yahoo and it doesn't look like I have the option to change the playoffs to include a 2 week championship/play off sort of system...  It only allows me to pick the weeks (Weeks 15 and 16, or Weeks 16 and 17) between 4 people; OR can do a 6 person play off in weeks 14, 15, 16; etc.

So in that regard, it looks like we are forced to have 1 week matches unless I'm missing some sort of way to be able to customize the settings to where I can choose what happens... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

It's all wrapped up in a debate I'm not prepared or capable to argue because I don't necessarily understand the statistics of it all.  I just feel like PPR is popular due to a specific reason and why it is a default value... it might be skewed a little towards certain people, but so is not having PPR... and so is all the other ways.  You could argue against any certain type of scoring given data trends.

In the spirit of this being the Monero Fantasy Football League (and as a participant with a pseudonymous single-use identity), I don't think vetting participants should be required, but I would also be OK with requiring a refundable security deposit for non-vetted participants (including myself).  

It might be a good idea to establish some league rules / bylaws to maintain fairness and establish dispute resolution procedures in advance of the start of the league. You can google fantasy football league bylaws / constitutions for some examples.

I'm good with any time on Sunday, but we should clarify the time zone.

Ah, bummer. Depending on how many players we end up with I would vote for a four player playoff in weeks 15 and 16.

So is it cool by you for Techmobowl to throw together a draft bylaw?
I think this is important as we get bigger as one person quitting half way through because they don't have a chance can ruin all the fun so we need rules already set ahead of time for if that happens. Trying to set a rule up on the spot when it affects the rest of the season can suck and doing it ahead of time takes out any bias.

I recommend anyone that has never done a yahoo draft to do a mock one just to make sure your browser works with their software.

Last year half my team got autodrafted because of a bug in ESPN and my browser so doing a mock draft test would be a good idea. It only takes a few minutes and then you can quit and let it autodraft the rest. And you will get emailed the results.

I tried another one and got a C !!!! Last two I did I got an F and a D !!!
Funny thing is I was first pick and only got a C, I don't think Yahoo agrees with the guys I like.

Also Phishead can you add to the OP what the team names are for each person, I already have You and JW figured out, but I don't think everyone can figure out who is who.

Ahh, yeah that sucks dude... but yeah basically before every game I would just go on there to check if all the players are healthy/still playing/etc.  You will see 'Out' for players out, 'Susp' for suspensions, 'I' (I think?) for injured... and so on.

Something that should be known in Fantasy football (American) for you new peops is the difference between a feature back and a offence by committee.

a Feature back gets the massive workload and carries while a backfield by committee splits the snaps up between 2 or 3 backs, therefore feature backs are worth much more.

There is of course 3rd down backs that specialize in passing and are valuable as well.

These are some of the intricacies you want to consider when trading and choosing your lineup for the week (they have more or less volume depending what team they play).

Anyway those are my thoughts on that and I thought I would share.

The waiver order is the order that you get to pick new players (like the draft order) if everyone wants that new kickbutt guy then the lowest waiver pick gets dibs. Every time you make a move you get pushed down the waiver list so that those that do not rise to the top and get a better pick. I think you are number one pick ATM, use it wisely.

I make 50 moves a week and 25 of them are bad! I will never have a number 1 waiver pick.

ChiBitCTy got lucky and pulled that one off, otherwise every team in the bottom half would have won this week! Lady has had some real tough luck with haveing the MOST points scored against her and floam a close second.

Everyone is still in it and it is a nice tight season that looks to have alot of intersesting turns as the injuries roll in.

Also what will happen with Bell? That is huge.

All season I held Austin Ekeler from draft waiting for Melvin Gorden to get hurt and finally said fuck it dropped him for a week and bamm immediately Gordon gets hurt!

Jesus this game can be frustrating and to boot, the Dumbass I got for him for one week got hurt half way through the game anyway!

I'm sure there are some gamblers with Monero there, and might get more joiners if you start a new season later next year? Don't know about American football but the statistics plays would bring in a lot of players.

UPDATE

So right now it's between Spazzer and Jwinterm to win our beloved Monero Barolo. ... fucking JWINTERM. Team autodraft himself is up 15.7 - 0 as of right now, but too early to tell who will win with Spazz being projected to bring in 117 pts, whereas jwin is supposed to bring in 128.  The two teams have talked about it and they will be splitting the pot up 80/20; where 1st place will take home 80% (plus barolo, still have to try and get in contact with eyejay_3 on IRC) and 2nd place will get 20%.

Again, it was fun as always everyone; I do have to apologize though because I haven't had that much down time lately to update this thread and keep it more active.  Just been having a lot of shit going on IRL.  Anyways, I look forward to doing this again next football season.  If someone would like to over take running the league next year I definitely wouldn't mind... but if not I will be hosting again (and hopefully winning) next year's 3rd Annual Monero FFL 2019 league
