This is bad, Dogechain is officially forked. Pools operators are mining on different blockchains.
Do not send your dogecoins until the pools agree on one blockchain.
Last time when a fork happened to Feathercoin, the whole currency went down the toilet. :/ This is due to greed ppl. Stupid miners mine on one fcking large pool

So when should I withdraw coins from an exchange? Should I wait until it settles, or should I gamble taking some out now on my 1.5 client?

I don't blame the miners.

The 1.5 client is fine. The issue is with the 1.4 client which some pools were using because of performance issues with 1.5. The pools are now switching to 1.5 or implementing the fix. All the exchanges are running 1.5 as far as I am aware, Cryptsy certainly is. This wasn't a 51% attack. Technical summary here: http://www.reddit.com/r/dogecoin/comments/1y5quc/serious_pool_owners_and_community_we_need_your/No need to panic, though I think it would be appropriate to try to get a version of 1.5 that solves the pool miner's issues out as soon as possible.

I think it is a bit early for blaming people Hazard. From what I have seen there were no issues with the 1.4 version of dogecoin which was running the Luckycoin code. When they upgraded to the Litecoin code in 1.5, it appears several mining pools encountered problems. It is quite possible that these performance problems that caused the pools to revert to 1.4 exist in Litecoin too. In retrospect perhaps they should have realized the potential problems of running 2 different databases (BerkeleyDB and LevelDB) and made the upgrade mandatory or issued a 1.4 fix then, especially given bitcoin had the same issue, but they probably weren't aware so many pools had reverted. The devs are working on the reasons why 1.5 is slow for pools, but otherwise I think we can consider this fixed.

If you're at the helm of a coin with a $70m market cap, and you push out an update plagued by a well documented issue... Might be time to find a new hobby. I imagine some exchanges are going to get burned hard by this fork. Ah, who am I kidding... The dogedevs probably weren't even around when bitcoin was struck by this issue.

its ok, BTC got through this, and went on stronger just a cheap coins event.
FTC was forked for a different reason.
The devs may want to think about how LTC has attracted real talent, e.g. wogtami.
I am sure Doge can raise a massive dev fund, 1doge's for a dev fund that will attract some quality talent.
