This is a good idea, lookig forward to this I was thinking that succesefully reporting bad posts should be used somehow, possbily with merit , but that could lead to another farming problem. In anycase , this is nice!

Correlated to the report badge topic, it would be nice to have general aggregated report statistics alongside the general forum statistics. A list of top reporters could be another feature, but we’ve seen members comment that they would not like to see a report badge on their profile so showing up on a list would not be to their likes either and may act as a deterrent for reporting in some cases.
To solve that issue you could just make it so you can toggle it on and off in your profile like signatures/avatars are etc.

Yes that is what I believe should be the solution for the badge, for those who wish to report by not be identified as a reporter. In terms of stats (should they be implemented), apart from overall aggregate stats on reporting, a ranking stat with usernames and number of correct reports may, for the same reasons as above, not be appropriate to show. Nevertheless, the on/off toggle could be applied to the listing too as you say and show the username as "anonymous" on the list to prevent the identity from being disclosed, while showing the ranking position and number of correct reports.

For the original purpose, my favorites are: (300 good reports) (1000 good reports) (5000 good reports) Those are my favourites and hope they're used in some capacity whether for reports or merit.
Thank you, theymos and hilariousandco, The colors signifies the Philippine Flag, if it is going to be used it will symbolize as a contribution not just by me but also from the Filipino People. I know there is a long journey for us to change the minds of those people whom they considered Filipinos as shitposter because of the history: shitposter plague. However, there are Filipino (Community Members) Lawyers, Doctors, Bank Branch Head, Stockbrokers, developers, DJ, Artist, Professors, and those Students (who needs to sustain their daily needs to continue their studies), that really contributes to our community as a whole. I can see some lights to these changes that I want for Filipino members, our local board needs more cleaning to do, thru your idea on the badge, it will create more reporters that will help clean not just our local board, but also, the whole bitcointalk. Appreciate those members who reported shit posts even without any badge. I continue to see more Filipino contributors now, I maybe one light, but, it will continue to burn the desire for a change. Change is coming.

Have you thought about adding some sort of privileges that come along with it? Nothing too amazing, but how about something like a bigger personal text or the ability to have a clickable link there? I've always thought that would be useful. Maybe a custom title? Editable or not. I think with having some sort of added benefits it would help the forum by encouraging users to report and everyone benefits.
Non staff can't see a users banned status, correct? Is there a reason for that? Perhaps one "privilege" for a large number of reports could be the ability to see banned user status? I remember having to check the modlog to see and it was a little annoying! Edit: I suspect that it will always be difficult to know what any mushroom cloud icon is if you don't already know, though.
How about we call it the red tree of peace! Hell even make it "rasta" coloured and just call it the tree of peace! It will be our little secret! Good job everyone, looking forward to the implementation!

That's correct. Although, there can be telltale signs such as signature etc. Is there a reason for that? Perhaps one "privilege" for a large number of reports could be the ability to see banned user status?

Probably, to prevent abuse. If someone is temp banned for a week or so, and this is public knowledge it could come up later down the line. I'm not sure about displaying banned members. It can be useful for reporting, but I guess removing their message if it infringes the guidelines is probably the right thing to do anyway.

At this point it's only 9 folks (I'm quite sure you're one of them already hehe, prob a couple other staffers as well!) at the top so I don't think those users would abuse the privilege. I just looked at it from a convenience stand point didn't think much about abuse, so fair point I guess!

theymos, would it be possible for a list of options a users can pick from? Or is that just too damn confusing? You would get to play with some more of the presented icons!

For the original purpose, my favorites are: 300 good reports 1000 good reports 5000 good reports Simply report paper: 300 good reports 1000 good reports 5000 good reports Quill pen to write a lot of reports: 300 good reports 1000 good reports 5000 good reports These are good and call back to the meaning of reporting, i would be happy with these. Thank you, I tried to adjust the color of line slightly as I thought it would be easier to recognize: 300 good reports 1000 good reports 5000 good reports The number of papers can be also increased like the leaf badge while size of each paper shrinks: 300 good reports 1000 good reports 5000 good reports @sncc I'm liking the Irish feel of the four leaf clover, and the others. I guess it doesn't really represent reporting, but definitely something that looks cool.
300 good reports 1000 good reports 5000 good reports I like this one most: it's simple and elegant. As much as I like getting Newbies nuked, this looks much friendlier. It could even be extended in the future. For example: 10000 good reports 30000 good reports 50000 good reports Thank you, it is also interesting to extend them to the opposite direction with fewer leaves:

I have always wondered, why we can't see who is banned and who is not. To prevent abuse which you mentioned, temp bans shouldn't be shown, and perm bans should. I think, best case scenario everybody should see who is banned and who is not. If that's not an option, users who actively reporting should get this privilege, as a small bonus.

I'm not sure what the benefit of knowing this information would be though. If you are reporting one of their posts then it doesn't really matter whether they are banned or not if their post is off topic/spam or what ever as it adds to the clutter of the thread.

I think it is when we report them for copy pasting it is a waste of time searching for the source if they are already banned. I guess it also wastes the moderators time going to ban them again and finding it's already done.

This. And overall would be great to know if any of reported shitposters got banned.

To me, the specific icons don’t matter, it is more about the recognition.
For selfish purposes, I think it would be nice to have an icon for those with 3,000 good reports.
It also might be beneficial to have a special sub for those with 1000 or more good reports that can be used similarly to how the staff sub is used, to report spammers, identifying trends, ban requests etc.

Just an idea: It may also be worth to "award" the icon for smaller amount of reports as wel, maybe 50 or less. The psychological/gamification effect of wanting to improve the icon, can lead to more people joining the reporting train.

It would be deserted. Just like the donators, and staff forum. Probably don't need another section. Its a good idea in principle, but some users are already doing it themselves in the Meta section now anyway, and its not like its disruptive or anything.

I was thinking along the lines of "tally marks", so maybe just a few scratches on the wall, 5 for lowest rank, 3x5 for highest rank. I'm not good at producing graphics at all, so I'll just link a picture to show what I mean, this is most likely copyrighted etc., so I don't suggest we use it, but somebody should take the idea further. Whatever we do, I think it should definitely make my profile look like this someday:
