I think I agree with theymos here after seeing the amount of creative ideas for badges I think we need to find more reasons to have badges, and I'm excited to see what comes of the courses, and how it will tie in with the badges.

Keep it simple, these erasers are very good and they send the message correctly. whatever you are going to pick, I want my badge as soon as possible, come on admin.
I can't believe that we have less than 200 reporters from more than 2M accounts, having the badge could also help merit sources to keep an eye out for good reporters and give them special treatment by finding their meritorious  posts first before others.

I wouldn't be against that, but I think just turning their rank to Banned or it being under their rank would be better.

Agreed, that would be better. However, I've suggested this before in other threads, and it didn't get implemented. That's why I tried the second best option: a "banned badge".

It's annoying when users sometimes report an already banned member for copy and pasting etc.

It's useless work for the user too, and would safe all parties time if it can be prevented. If that time can be used to report others, the banned tag can actually help cleaning the forum.

Maybe the Simple Ban Logo is enough for them since they didn't contribute to the forum?

I wouldn't mind if this would be set as an Avatar for all banned accounts (if it's possible to add an Avatar to banned Newbies). Seeing accounts get banned could scare other users into following the rules (I hope).

Does the forum keep track of the reason why users have been banned in the past?
I'm not sure about the color coding, I can imagine many banned users would fit several categories.

Perhaps one "privilege" for a large number of reports could be the ability to see banned user status?

I would like that, but I prefer to be able to see the banned status without being logged in (so I can scrape it).

Probably, to prevent abuse. If someone is temp banned for a week or so, and this is public knowledge it could come up later down the line.

Temp bans don't show up in modlog, and I wouldn't want to see temp bans in profiles. It's only useful to know which users won't ever come back.

I'm not sure what the benefit of knowing this information would be though. If you are reporting one of their posts then it doesn't really matter whether they are banned or not if their post is off topic/spam or what ever as it adds to the clutter of the thread.

Most spambots above Newbie only get banned, their spam stays on the forum forever. I care much more about getting a spambot banned than just having a post deleted.

Maybe something more bitcoin related. A community helper badger? I see some users like bob123 that are always helping users in the Technical Support board....

Those are my favourites and hope they're used in some capacity whether for reports or merit.

The colors signifies the Philippine Flag, if it is going to be used it will symbolize as a contribution not just by me but also from the Filipino People. I know there is a long journey for us to change the minds of those people whom they considered Filipinos as shitposter because of the history: shitposter plague. However, there are Filipino (Community Members) Lawyers, Doctors, Bank Branch Head, Stockbrokers, developers, DJ, Artist, Professors, and those Students (who needs to sustain their daily needs to continue their studies), that really contributes to our community as a whole. I can see some lights to these changes that I want for Filipino members, our local board needs more cleaning to do, thru your idea on the badge, it will create more reporters that will help clean not just our local board, but also, the whole bitcointalk. Appreciate those members who reported shit posts even without any badge.

I continue to see more Filipino contributors now, I maybe one light, but, it will continue to burn the desire for a change. Change is coming.

It's really good to see that the badges you made serves as a tribute for the Filipinos. Well, my thoughts about these icons make me feel that I should put more effort on making a contribution to our community. Some of the people have a mindset of automatically considering Filipinos as a Shitposters, then it will create a revolution to be better and to have a way for the great development of us.

Having these kind of icons really inspires me to do the cleaning in our local to avoid all the shitposters. From the start, we already making a move on this case.

Regarding about the icon, it's simple and aesthetic to look at. The three colors representing the color of our flag is really amazing.

I think it's too early for this. I doubt theymos is going to introduce a badge for which only he qualifies (>2000), with only satoshi reaching the badge for 1000+.

In the end, all top reporters of today should receive top rank right from the start.
Top rank should at the same time be realistically achievable within two years or so.
300 is certainly a good starting point, but I somehow doubt that 1000 and 5000 are wise.
I guess that someone dedicated enough could easily make a few hundred per day.

If you go to the Altcoin board, you can find thousands of posts worth deleting with no effort at all. It's very boring, and feels completely useless to do, but makes it very easy to quickly get thousands of good reports.

No need to have plagiarism badge since the user will be already banned.

Well you could still see the posts of the banned user and you will be able to report it to mod but The user is already banned.

It would really just be okay if it is one so that you would just know that the user is banned. Well, it’s no sense to put different categories to banned users. They are all banned. Probably just the red one.

4. If you use a symbol, it will be in a limitation, there will be no Count of how many reports it has made, in which case a person can stop by a limited report, so I do not think there will be any benefit from this process.

If this method is to be used...
1. It would be better not to start any type of batch system. In this case, you will be able to use it in other ways, for example, I will show you the following. 


If you use Like this, then it will be noticed by everyone. 

2.  If you want to use a symbol, then you can choose some symbols from here. Personally, I like this sign, if you use this symbol, it is not bad.

Where would this badge reside? Next to the View Profile and Personal Message icons?

Finally some encouragements for reporting bad posts... To me reporting is kind of policing or being a detective for the forum. So my inspirations are coming from police/detective themes.

I have highlighted the ones I prefer.
The first one with the face is kind of busted
Second one with the ID search is basically looking for plagiarism, spamming contents etc etc
The third one is kind of a siren where be aware of the use, s/he will bust you.

Whichever we chose, colorize them like BTCforJoe, cissrawk suggested.

It seems the idea here is to encourage more people to report. I certainly used the forum for a very long time before I ever used the report button, I just never thought about it. From what I understand the problem is unreported spam, not unnecessary reports. People that haven't got to 300 reports yet will not have seen the Your reports page and this text "Do not worry about your accuracy too much; one accurate report is worth many inaccurate reports."

Actually, tally marks are associated with imprisonment or some sort of durance (at least for me). I doubt that reporters wear the striped suits.:)

Unfortunately, it's unlikely to be implemented since Pacman itself is for sure law protected (unlike ghosts - untill their appearance doesn't resemble jellyfishes I guess).

This time the idea is a helping hand. Reporting is kind of supporting or helping the mods/admins to keep the forum clean

Stars are simple - something that we call "lying on surface". Though it's not bad of course.
Helping hand is... conceptual. But I'm not sure that it's meaning is obvious.

Medals it's cool

Personally I don't like medals, shoulder straps, stripes on sleeves, cops caps, sheriff badges and other stuff that concerns militarism and other attributes of "duty persons". Reporting is not duty related yet, and these symbols are too strict.

Probably (at least I know that other SMF-forums have their internal banlists). But it seems that mods have to write the ban reason themselves (if it's not autoban), so it'd be difficult to align the badges with particular reasons (the static list of reasons to choose from is needed for that). Or it could be realized as additional option so mods can choose the badge for every ban. Thus the list would stick the bandge automatically, but possibly require to rewrite a great banch of code to work. And the option can seriously slow down the mods' work since they'd be distracted by the choice of badges.

At first look, I didn't recognised that it's a hand, after reading the above quote where you said that it's a hand and looked again at the image. I still can't recognise that it is a hand. I don't know why but I'm pretty sure that my eyes are working fine. It seems like a yellow person looking at some sort of files in his hand and in side view.  Though, I love those stars of yours more than these hands They're quite simple and looks good.

You might be right. But this badge will somehow encourage members that is too lazy to use "report to Moderator" button. It may cause suffering but Moderators are the only one who will encounter such problems that's why you have nothing to worry about. It seemed they agreed with it (also some members including me) so there's no much problem.

It's voluntary, it's up to them if they want to participate reporting. If they want to achieve the badge then they will surely help but if they don't want to, it will be just fine too. No punishment.

Actually you can see how many reports you have if you've already reported more than 50, but yes you were right, it's not shown in profile. Just click "Report to Moderator" button from any reply and you'll be able to see something like this.

After reaching 300 Good Reports you will be able to see your report history.

Something like BTCforJOE said might included in the implementation of the badge. If the pointer of the mouse is hovered in the badge a text will show up giving you information about how many Good Reports, bad reports and unhandled reports you have.

And yes, there will be no benefit. Like what I said it's just voluntary.
