First off all , you wont get to Jr and wont be able to wear signature if you will not earn single merit so i would suggest you to try to focus on quality posting.
After that you should do a lot of research, i suggest for you to look for projects which has had a successful pre sale, thats the best way to start. 

Your advice is very practical, before becoming a Jr member, don't think of signature campaigns but he can choose other campaigns. In addition to pre-sale, he can choose campaigns that are managed by reputable managers.

for me i rate it base on 3 factor. The team , Usechase , and how big the bounty pool is, all of those are very important, one of it are not in the bounty you are looking for , there is a chance that it will plummet when it hit exchange. Since you are newbie you cant get wore a signature unless you purchase a copper rank like mine altho your rank will still be newbie except that you can use a signature upto member class

2. Check the whitepaper and team of the project. Often a quality project is accompanied by a very good introduction book, so team information is the same.
3. After considering the above two factors, you check to see if the community of the project is large. See whether the roadmap is clear or not.
4. Check how long bounty runs. You must note that usually do bounty, after at least 2-3 months to pay token, waiting to be on the
exchanges  can be longer.

youve got a good suggestions but sometimes even with the great team,whitepaper and the project itself the bounty can be a scam still,but those above suggestions are good enough to look unto the campaign if someone is looking for a bounty program, yes we really dont know but atleast you can join in a good bounty campaign in terms of the purpose of the project.

Based on my experience, in finding a good bounty, you should consider a project that is back-up by a strong team. And also, give a background check about the project. Read their whitepaper and if you see that there is something off, or what they are saying is quite ambitious, then don't join it. In joining social media bounty, there are many participants but you can still get a good amount. It's up to you.
