I bought some Mazacoin (MZC) with small money and continued to buy when the price drops. It is very cheap and I do not need to spend hundreds of dollars to trade it. SJCX. I think it has great potential. You can buy it for cloud storage and you can earn it by renting your computer space. If you are renting, better to mine on Eobot with your CPU/GPU to get additional coins - a few cents maybe.

i don't think it will overtake bitcoin but stellar is my best investment in 2014
it has possibilities and there is a real company behind that unlike other anonymous coins

Hindsight is always 20/20. 

On the last day of 2014, the best performer I can find is DNotes.  If you had bought $100.00 worth of DNotes on March 8, 2014 (the day it was listed on CoinMarketCap), it would be worth $2497.00 today.  It launched February 16th, nine days before the OP question was asked.

I had to look this one up as I have never even heard of it.  It launched December 17, 2014 (14 days ago)!  Since 80% of new coins are dead within the first 30 days, I think we will have to wait a bit on this to call it an investment.  Right now it falls under the gamble category. It's at 226 sat. on Bittrex right now, down from the 500 previously quoted.  After everything that has gone on in crypto this year, I want to see an altcoin that can make it at least 6 months, before even considering it as an investment.

Overall a bad year for price point - but I see a lot of good teams working hard, long term minded.

Good point !  I think the best coins will be rising to the top, those with feature sets that hold long term value.  
Mainly proof of stake coins (that have been around for a length of time) and those joined into SuperNET.
