Even if it is Bill Murray I don't think that will mean much, the actual coin itself has to have something notable about it to stand out from the other 200 'funny' altcoins.

I'd buy it if it had bill Murray behind it Simply because Murray has the funds and connection to at least raise awareness.  That's a big deal with any alt coin and the value could really rise.

But I doubt it's true since we would have heard some proof by now.

^^ya agreed.

Darkcoin is one of the standouts of the year IMHO, top 3 , but I do think its over-valued when it was one DRK was worth over 0.01 BTC, wow that's high. I still kick myself, was going to buy some at 0.0013 but thought it was too high.

I personally really like Hobonickels. Not a very popular coin and it lost a lot of its value last few weeks, but I think its fundamentally a great PoS coin, and there is no better PoS coin wallet that I know of.

Amazing how fast the cryptocoin world goes though. Not six months ago I sold a bunch of litecoin at 35 bucks a coin.  I can't believe NVC was trading for $25 at its A.T.H and has gone very steadily to $1. It is very hard...well almost impossible actually,  to imagine what the scene will be like a year from now.

Looks like the key building blocks are in place: decentralised blockchain and now anonymity.  Only distribution remains.

Most people probably lose money betting on new coin.

All the scrypt coins are dieing, and X11 coins are not so far behind.

That's temporary due to the sheer number of new coins on the market.  Not enough demand.  But if BTC takes off and goes mainstream we'll millions of new investors looking for coins to invest in and to mine.

Hopefully this next spike start soon - like next month.

I am currently investing in Fractal coin. Why? No particular reason, just a whim / gut feeling. The last time i had a gut feeling about a coin was DRK and that turned out pretty well for me. So here i am trusting my instinct once again and investing on mining fractal coin. Their BCT page seems to be pretty up to date which i cannot say for many of the new alts out there. Hoping that this turns me a good profit. Still have to recover from a terrible investment in GHS made on CEX.io though (for the record: that was a recommendation of a friend who i blindly trusted) Sad

All I'm saying is: when Murraycoin gets a little media coverage, the story will go viral. There really is no need for "connections" for raising awareness... you may not have noticed but any time Bill Murray bats an eyelash, a story about it appears on the front page of Yahoo, Reddit, etc. so really it would just take a story to be posted to prnewswire or other such news aggregation/distribution sites (or one intrigued Buzzfeed blogger) for it to take off.

I don't *think*, I *know* Murraycoin will be a hit. But I'm trying to get the crypto community involved before it goes gangbusters so that people will be able to guide the influx of newbies that appear. No one in crypto seems to be looking at the big picture though so my words are mostly falling on deaf ears.
Sigh... oh well.  Smiley

Brianbbad,

Thanks for the info on Murray Coin but I don't buy any coin on basis of rumors, it's a good way to lose all your money.  I wait to see something real.  I'll do some research on the coin and if I find any evidence of anything I'll definitely buy some.  Thanks again!

Anyone not in XCurrency right now is doing it wrong.

Every XC wallet is automatically an Xnode and no balance needs to be held in it (aka, completely decentralized).

Privacy Mode is on-chain, and breaks transactions into fragments and utilises trustless mixing to forward fragments on to the recipient. (It's not a ring signature either; it's a unique m-of-m multisig transaction.)

  • Since every node forwards fragments, there's no telling whether a node is the originator or final receiver of a fragment. Therefore receiver/sender address is concealed.
  • Since fragments are sent, there's no telling what the full amount of any given transaction is. Therefore the amount sent/received is concealed.
  • Since trustless mixing is m-of-m multisig, no node can steal coins. They can either sign or opt out. (In the latter case, fragments are sent via spare nodes).

XC will soon be adding "stealth addresses" to its arsenal. This will allow the receiver to publicise a receiving address, while payments sent to it will arrive in another address, prevent associating the receiver with amounts received.

Finally XC nodes can run as TOR nodes, so that not only are their IP addresses concealed, but since they do not use exit nodes they're immune to packet sniffers.

As such, XC claims to be completely private. Sender address, receiver address, amount, and IP address are all kept private.  Future developments will allow increasing control over degrees of privacy, enabling XC transactions to be flexible and tailored to a wide variety of use-cases.

In addition to completely anonymous transfers, XC has XChat, instant p2p encrypted messaging (also available on the XC TOR Stick, www.xcmerch.com).  XC is also developing encrypted voice + video to be used across PC & mobile platforms.

Nxt isn't a coin, really. It's useful for the decentralized asset exchange, but I doubt that its tokens could be worth considerably more in the future.
