I wish there was a way to short bitcoins, could be making a killing here. I am glad that I waited to buy. Sale me those bitcoins for cheap Smiley

Transactions can optionally carry transaction fees. Whoever mines the block which ends up containing your transaction will get the fee. The Bitcoin client will sometimes force you to pay a fee when it thinks that no miner will accept your transaction otherwise.

If you hold fiat cash, you are essentially shorting bitcoin.

Now if you borrow bitcoin, trade for fiat cash (like USD), and then pay back the same amount of bitcoin later, that would be shorting as well.

There are ways to short bitcoin, even naked shorting. It's not for the faint of heart but if look around here you can find a few sites where it is practiced.

How is naked shorting possible?

To short something, you need to be able to locate and borrow shares or units of the item to short.

In naked shorting you have not borrowed or located the money you need. It sounds crazy, but you are essentially betting with money you don't have.
