It's almost 8 months of 2018 and we have not seen any reasonable hikes for the altcoins,
It was only Ethereum that hit a good value of almost 1.4k$ in the beginning of the year . Since then it's pretty dull.
Forget overtaking can any ALTCOIN ever reach a value near Bitcoin.

Their former value is just a bubble, and the price of the anthracnos will return to their true value.
Because this is just a market that has no legal and regulatory requirements for them, their prices are erratic.

There is less possibility that any altcoin can overtake Bitcoin. Bitcoin is the mother of all crypto currencies and as per the market cap and price there is no crypto coins near to Bitcoin. The reach to Bitcoin is also very broad to all the people than other crypto's. The altcoins can compete within themselves and there is no possibility for any altcoin to compete with Bitcoin for another century.

Nothing will beat BTC in the short term or the middle long term (5 - 10 years).
Why? it's simple, because old adopters of BTC won't let that happen.
There is lots of better blockchain & faster than BTC but they're not mass adopted yet.
BTC will remain the kin as long as those old BC adopters bastards manipulate the market, none of thoe is willing to give his " weapon " to another market maker.

As of now, I don’t see any altcoin having the potential to overtake Bitcoin in terms of marketcap or the price. Bitcoin has developed a strong and big community over the years, I don’t think it is easy to overtake bitcoin.

if you are just talking about the price then there is an alt name as 42 coin on the coinmarketcap whoe's current price is 2.69 btc at the time of writing this post but it has very much low trade volume as compared to btc trade volume which shows that numbers don't matter influence does and btc is the most dominant coin in the market |

It depends on the price you think the altcoins will get to because, the more they increase, the more bitcoin flies. It therefore may not happen and if it happens, it means bitcoin will be replaced by either the coin or another coin.

If earlier I thought it was impossible. Now I'm thinking. After looking at the market, crypto currency. I'm a couple very surprised how some crypts grow. And more and more all of us are surprised. I'm not sure that this can happen in the near future. But the fact that there are chances for many. This is a fact.

I think that everything depends on when and how well bitcoin will be able to solve its scaling problem and the speed of transaction confirmation, the longer this is delayed the more the chances for altcoins. |

The BCH has made great strides this year. However, ETH is losing its edge to compete for influence and importance in the marketplace. But I think there are hardly any coins that can beat bitcoin. It is invincible and a prototype for the success of the crypto ecosystem. |

Anything is possible in time. Although it is seemingly unthinkable to believe that any altcoin will near bitcoin, but hey, it require an altcoin the will have utility. Most altcoins are particularly intended for a specific function which might not be as global as bitcoin. So there is no way it can challenge. Even the ethereum you mentioned is mostly used for ICO.

In my understanding, it will be hard to overtake Bitcoin even reach a value near Bitcoin. So far, ETH has remained the most opportunity to do that. But the price range seems too far and less opportunity to make it. By the way, I think the question on the topic should be change, to be: Can any altcoins ever reach a value near Bitcoin? It's the point for me.

Bitcoin is the leading coin among all the cryptocurrencies.. Many of the people every day do their transactions for Bitcoin purchases, Many new traders are getting in and purchasing bitcoin. Many of the companies are accepting BTC as one of the payment modes. so i think anything cant go beyond bitcoin  |

I don't think any altcoin will even reach bitcoin value. Bitcoin has made its place and people have trust in bitcoin. There is other blockchain but they are not accepted worldwide. People used to believe ethereum will give a competition to bitcoin but it's going to dull now. So, Bitcoin is the mother of all cryptocurrency and will remain so.

I don't say it is impossible but it looks like nothing is going to happen forever since most of the altcoins created were just shit so don't expect them to overtake the prices of bitcoin.Maybe someone need to create a coin in the future to over take bitcoin?! |

Mate you have a very nice point and I support this. Off course overtaking will be for a reason that is not met or fulfilled and if bitcoin is lagging behind, an altcoin can do the magic. |
