Although there is no specific reason as to why the price of bitcoin has taken a nose dive in the current year, I believe its the accumulation of several factors that are known to us and even factors that happen behind the scenes that we can only make conjectures about without any supporting evidence for holding such position.

However, attributing the reason exclusively to the ICOs will be rather unfair because if there is any section of the market that takes the most hit in 2018, its the ICOs market where there were bans against raising fund, advertisement platforms basing their reason for suspending crypto related ads for the fraud there such as Facebook, Twitter, Google etc. the rate at which regulations has been coming hard and even the general perception even on the forum that ''most ICOs are fraud'', and I have equally seen several ICOs unable to meet the minimum target set because of all of this.

We can only hope that several happenings would be in the favor of bitcoin or the market just move one from relying on injection of funds that will not come anytime soon or else, 2019, we will still be making excuse for the failure of the market.

Mate, if you check the growth wise I would agree with you bitcoin and all the cryptocurrencies going to down side in the complete marketplace. So far people are having big panic while they were looking to invest on the cryptocurrencies.

I'm glad someone else sees this. Honestly, I expect prices to go a bit lower before correcting. This is because the yearly price shifts for tax reasons have not hit yet and things are still unstable in Asia.

I think the Asian influx really is part of what drove the bubble complete with price manipulators and new uneven trade prices coming in. Laws appearing in Asia is what killed it coupled with the fact that right now most cryptocurrency sees zero actual use outside of investing and gambling.

Actual use cases generally improves the crypto market. I think less manipulation from Asia plus ETH and ETH based tokens being used in actual non-gambling games and various non-betting platforms is why things are starting to improve. As BTC is still the de facto buy and trade currency for most coins, as ETH rises so will BTC. If ETH ever gets one really big breakout platform/game using either ETH or an ETH based token, then the price of crypto in general will soar. It may even flip to ETH being the de facto trade currency!

There are lot of factors causes the prices to fall this year,first of all the whales caused the prices to fall when they made huge amount of peofits by hyping the prices at the later end of 2017 and the short term investors who just bumping and dumping the coins to maike money in short term and the bad news about the crypto currency on all the media.

I couldn't agree more that there were too many ICOs. Remember that a lot of these ICOs, most of them only asked for money in crypto. So in effect, you had people buying up Ether to invest in ICOs, which caused demand and price increase, I believe even Bitcoin benefited from this early in 2017 when ICOs were still mainly asking for BTC. But as most later ICOs were ERC20, they asked for ETH and this drove it up.

Then all those tokens cashed in, they all crashed, and people were having more ETH distributed towards ICO bags.

I this agree on a option where OP said. For me I believe that the the market of cryptocurrency is going for the down red it is because....

Some ICO has seen already this issues as some ICO finishes the project as early as three week or less... And some ICO was not very useful at all, I am referring to the virtual world wherein hike eth and bitcoin that we can but pizza, coffee, cake, t-shirt, car, house and many more....

Most coins are only for trading that's why people only are here to sell and buy them...

First of all, I am certain this has not been the worst year for Bitcoin prices. I believe 2011 was worse. But most likely, many people on this platform were not dealing in Bitcoins in 2011. Now let's talk about the reason for price drops. I think I disagree with you here too. Placing the reason behind a bad year for Bitcoins on the large number of ICOs is rather inaccurate economics. It is clear that there were a number of peculiar factors that came into play this year. I think lazy investors too are contributing to this issue. If everyone does proper research before investment, the market will actually flourish more.

The decline of the entire cryptocurrency market is due to the sell-offs to take profit and cut losses of many investors making the whole market plummet since early 2018. I believe this market will not stop here. And the opportunity for investors is still very much. The market will grow strongly by the end of this year and beginning of 2019.

It may start a new trend but I still feel it is too early to start expecting that. The fact that we are in a downtrend, does not mean it should start raising concerns for investors.

Well I believe there to be many factors but I think the MAIN reason was it went up really high really fast it had to come down I knew it was gonna crash just didn't know when everytime it crashed before that I panicked and sold then bought bak in bc it kept going up then when it finally crashed for real I kept calm and was waiting for it to raise SMH lol. I have been able to personally pick some tokens and coins due to the market trend for a while and got the chance of buying them way below their ICO prices which to me seems like a pretty good bargain.

2018 has not yet ended though, but the number of ICOs that popped out successfully this year was really huge and I can really say it might be the year that brought about some difference for ICOs.

In between couple of big countries had banned it or gave a negative news due to which market was dumped badly and thus it was never able to recover from that during this year. 2018 has not yet ended though, but the number of ICOs that popped out successfully this year was really huge and I can really say it might be the year that brought about some difference for ICOs.

First of all, I am certain this has not been the worst year for Bitcoin prices. I believe 2011 was worse. But most likely, many people on this platform were not dealing in Bitcoins in 2011. Now let's talk about the reason for price drops. I think I disagree with you here too. Placing the reason behind a bad year for Bitcoins on the large number of ICOs is rather inaccurate economics. It is clear that there were a number of peculiar factors that came into play this year. I think lazy investors too are contributing to this issue. If everyone does proper research before investment, the market will actually flourish more.

I wouldn't be surprised in 2018 is the year when ICO raised a lot of money. I think there's ICO born every minute so its possible that they attracted more investors. The problem is scammed ICO ares still present and I assume that its one reason why the market is also down, investors doesn't have the full confidence and they are getting intelligent and smarter today as compare to last year.

Normally, the whole cryptocurrency market is fully loaded with huge speculation and that makes it easy to see the value start going up pretty high in a short amount of time and then see it go down rapidly before you even know it. There are few ICOs that have become a success and even the ICOs that made a lot of money last year would not be enough to make the price go to the point of being in the $ 6000. I am of the opinion that the main reason why the price fell a lot and continues to fall is because of the regulation. when the price rose to  $18000, aroused the attention of all governments of the world, many governments and banks began to warn people for do not buy bitcoin. other governments started to say that banks should not allow people to buy cryptos and that they should close exchange accounts. this made people afraid to buy bitcoin, for example, see the case of India.

There are lot of alternative coins that is truly useless as "shitcoins". For the reason of slow development and worst case scenario is there's no real product or service at all. After finishing the pre-sale and ICO...and having a funds from different investors, the team went missing and no one knows what will happen next. I don’t really think that’s the reason. Come to think of it, people claimed that the price as of last was pumped by whales and that’s why it got to the price rate of $19000+. So if that’s true, I’m guessing that the main reasons behind the price of being so low as $6000+ is. Because it was dumped.

I think the main reason behind the red market is trust of the people. People do not trust cryptocurrency the most and they think it is just a waste of time and money. There is no future of cryptocurrency and some people think that cryptocurrency is a Ponzi scheme and will take all your money and will disappear one day from the market. Trust of the people is very important it will definitely disappear.

we must be smart to choose which one we should give funds for investment, nowadays there are a lot of bogus investments which are detrimental to many people in various countries. I prefer to continue to monitor the development of the crypto until prices range between USD5000-5500. in my opinion this will be a big loss for bitcoin investors if they sell their assets at this time

In my opinion the reason is that small investors think that only big investors can make money from cryptocurrency and they are losing their money and wasting their time. it is better to invest in some regular business. Therefore I think that the main reason for red market is whales. They manipulate the market and this manipulation is not good for crypto market overall.

Current year has been bit worst for crypto coins. Apart from values, we have ICOs in the market with best projects. So what happened is the investment spill over too many ICOs and thus bitcoin value remained below $6.5K . This is another reason for all altcoins values remain under a threshold. Hope we have more investors pitch in investing into bitcoin.

I think the main reason for the market being red in 2018 is because there is a big dump or a big correction after the very high increase in 2017, so far I can still feel the value of crypto in the market can still be normal because it can last above $5k. As I think that there are many reasons that lead to red market, and we don’t have any clear reason for this items so I don’t think that it has any main reason. Yep pump and dump both affect to the market. Fake news is considered as a key sign of pump and dump scam. It may lead people into FOMO psychology, especially it affects to those  who are greedy and don’t have much knowledge especially no one can deny that in this year 2018, bad ICO is mentioned as a scam regularly.
