I guess the people who invented these Altcoins never thought about how they are going to be dominated by Bitcoin in such fashion otherwise they would have named them so. But, they thought these coins will start a good competition with Bitcoin which wasn't the case.

Altcoin is just to group the others together in one easy word so newbies won't get confused. However, some are not really coins like Ethereum and NEO but making more words for them would be way too complicated. I like altcoin, it is better than alternativecoins which is arguably easier to understand

In my own opinion, the platform or the project does not really matter because the price will only increase if bitcoins will pump since it was the very first cryptocurrency has been created.

Doesn't the name suggest it all? Those are alternate coins and people who cannot afford to get their hands on Bitcoins are usually looking for alternate opportunities and thus it works for them. Naming them bitchcoins wouldn't help the community to have a good reputation to be honest. Hence, the decency of calling Altcoins.

It seems you don't understand the meaning of altcoin. Altcoin is the cryptocurrency that does not rely on bitcoin. But the price of all altcoin and the whole thing depends on the price of bitcoin because bitcoin is the first coin in the market and they use it to price the altcoin.

it is a free market and  the investors and the whole ecosystem decides these things. and they have decided to see all of the other coins that are not bitcoin as altcoin and call them as such.

You are kind of true. I think there are many coins which don't have enough potentials to be a good coin. They often becomes garbage coins. But there are also lots of good coins out there.
