Russia have still kept open source cryptos legal and they are trying to implement the rules in case of criminal activities which are done through cryptos. So, I honestly see no harm in that, rather it is best for us if criminal activities are removed soon from this crypto space because in the long run this is going to tarnish the reputation of the community.

It has become a problem to identify the criminals, who are running away with people's money from the crypto space. Having no regulation at all will only encourage the incidents to occur. I think they are not only worried about criminal transcations. Of course, it's important and I have no doubt that they are worrying about criminals. But I think there is also a fear of losing control of money. They can legalize it but they always can to ban it anytime too.

The Russian politicians love loud statements and silly initiatives (like taxes on sex, forest mushrooms and so forth). As far as I know recently the chief of the Central bank of Russia went ti US finding a refuge  because she could be arrested in conjunction with big steals in her structure.
