We can't conclude easily that etheruem failed in 2018 just because there was a decline in price, the general market was down all coins including bitcoin was affected moreover all coins have its own ups and downs I think that is what happened to etheruem at that particular time but thank God it has start recovering and I now it will continue to recover gradually. We just have to be patience and not tag it a fail coin.

Yes it fail for now in this year of 2018 but not to down in that price of $10.
Maybe it down only to a $100+ but it was a amount all we need to reach again into the price $1000 just like in the pas year. Maybe in this will be happen again.

my prediction
eth goes down to below 0.01btc as all the tokens contracts eat up its value
the more tokens eth has the more value eth will drop
only way for the eth to go up again is for all or most of the tokens especially the shittokens to bleed out to death
then eth can gradually go up in value again
otherwise the down trend continues
understands this: tokens contracts are basically fork copies of eth in values, nothing more
only a few good tokens can help eth go up in values
