Rather than criticize those doing a largely thankless job, report the post to those being paid to handle the issue so it can be removed and the user banned.

Why are you torturing yourself? I saw that there are users who very want to become merit source and they would gladly agree for this job.

I really want to help newbie cordially. Especially those are demoted. I don't want to make disappointed demoted good poster. But it's little bit difficult and hard to find good post. I am really not looking for high quality post, good post is enough for newbie (1 merit ). Also there is limits of my smerit, so I spend them a good post of newbie (mostly). I appriciate them who have helped newbie.

Not everyone has this instinct of helping others (without any return) and they don't feel like burden on themselves.

Actually the happiness of helping people can only be felt by the person who help others and it is the inner happiness which cannot be felt by others and most importantly cannot be judged by the materialistic world.

I seem to have put off newbies joining the Fit to Talk project by blocking registrations. I had to do this, as I had a number of applictions from spammers every day, and it is quite time consuming having to check that they weren't members of Bitcoin Talk, and then sending them an email. I don't want to discourage genuine new members, and we have already helped several members to improve their BT ranking already. I would like to continue to do this. The political thread starter project is still running, and I believe that those who have taken part have received over 10 merits each for their threads, and they have helped the politics board at the same time.

If any new member wishes to join, then please send a private message to this account, and I'll make a manual registration.

Recurrent update. Another 498 newbies were supported over past time. Also I published monthly statistics for October.

There is the huge problem of copy-pasting on the forum therefore many users spend their time by checking newbies messages to not give merit to lazy spammers.
For example, there is a copied message below that accidentally received merit from OgNasty.

As far as I can see at the BPIP service made by Vod, this newbie is not yet banned for plagiarism. Anyway, I'm sure that OgNasty does an excellent job with finding good posts of newbies and contributes to the forum. On the other hand, you mentioned users who copy messages of other people. This is a common problem indeed and in my opinion, all users who were caught on plagiarism should be banned.

My post on the first page has been updated again. 211 newbies received at least one merit this week. In total, 1994 members supported 4500 newbies since September 17, 2018.

Some of account farmers are so insolent. In my opinion, it is obvious that their accounts are connected. For example:

I'm doing a horrible job of meriting newbies, though the number I've given merit to at least isn't zero.

I've been meaning to visit Bitcoin Discussion to search for noobs to merit, but I never can seem to muster sufficient motivation to do so.  I do visit Economics and, of course, Meta, Reputation, and Scam Accusations but posts made by Newbie/Jr. Members haven't really been deserving of merits.  I'm not someone like OGNasty who will apparently merit any member who shows evidence of the ability to string letters into things that may or may not resemble sentences, i.e., anyone with the ability to type or use speech-to-text.  I think if I and other merit sources were to lower our standards that much, the merit system would be irrelevant.  

I'd actually like to see a list praising the merit sources who've merited the fewest number of Newbie/Jr. Member accounts but who don't necessarily merit only Hero/Legendary accounts.  Such a list would be that of the most discriminating merit sources--and I mean to use the word discriminating in the positive sense, i.e., picky, or meaning that they only choose the best posts to be merited.  When you're among the top merit-givers to Newbies, I'm not so sure that's a good thing unless you're really searching out and finding the ones deserving of those merits.  God knows I haven't been able to find many.

Just looking at the newbie sub forum shows that its just full of garbage and not a worthy post in sight. I also disagree with anyone who thinks going out of your way to merit newbies is a good thing. Ok maybe not the very best posts but any posts that deserve some recognition. The merit system should not be seen as a way to reward users by ranking them up but rewarding them for their posting habits. I think I received some merit the other day which was initially 1 but I need one more to rank up so the user gave me a another one. This could of been a mistake and maybe they wanted to give me 2 first of all. But its probably because they wanted to be the user to merit me so I could rank up. I appreciate merits obviously but I think this shouldn't really happen.
