The best lesson for such a journalist maybe for herself to have no privacy.

sometimes i feel ashamed to work in journalism. this is one of those times  Embarrassed

you dont have to be ashamed for anything..unless you had something to do with this article?

i've nothing to do with the article, however, it would be a great honour to be able to set up a portrait. I may not be a master of words, but i am damn sure i'm a master of light and shade  Grin

I have sent the email of Satoshi Nakamoto in the past asking if I can do a portrait. I think my mistake was in being honest regarding my intentions. The email was delivered, but I never got a response.

oh well, privacy respected.

So DPR posts his real name in these forums, and then Satoshi turns out to be Satoshi? Truth is always stranger than fiction...

I think it more likely that the real creator found someone he could pin his creation on if people such as this journalist really started digging around.

Well there you go.  He is, after all, Japanese, and his name is Satoshi.  How fitting.

And American too!  Woot woot!

The birthplace of great ideas, land of the free.  Too bad the IRS, NSA, and other three letter agencies are ruining the fun.

If I was him I would unload, or destroy, those bit coins ASAP.  His whole family is in danger.  I don't blame him for hiding now.

He should have been unloading those coins at coin base on a regular basis.

Leah McGrath Goodman and Sharon Sergeant both have Wikipedia articles about them and the latter seems to be a well-known forensic genealogist. Newsweek seems like a reputable source as well.

On the other hand I find it hard to believe that someone who wanted to stay anonymous, especially someone who is an expert in cryptography, would use his real name in public. Many people have claimed to have "discovered" the identity of Satoshi Nakamoto. Just look at his Wikipedia page for example. Here's hoping that this will be just another one like the rest.

He probably didn't think they would be worth anything.  And they weren't, at the time.  I wouldn't be worrying too much about my identity either if I were to craft a new government constitution that I didn't think anyone would follow, but would change the world three years later.

I just wanted to go ahead and pop in on this thread, since I'm sure it will be quite long...

I want to go on record as saying that this is a bait article. They are monitoring the house to see what happens, then we will get another article detailing what would happen to Satoshi if he were ever uncovered. It's a fake.

Just want to put this down so I can have my "told you so" moment Smiley

If this is true and those are indeed the real names plus the real house... that journalist is completely insane (and a criminal that should be arrested in my eyes).

What the f# is this, completely destroying the privacy of the man who clearly did want nothing but his identity kept a secret?

I hope this is just a ridiculous hoax.

edit:
https://twitter.com/gavinandresen/status/441547758827474946  Seems like it might actually be real

Some guy posted a picture of the journalist's house, so I see where this is going. In any case bad news for bitcoin today.
