Hi everyone,
I just bought a collectible here. To preserve my privacy, I'd prefer not to give my real name and have the package delivered to a UPS Store or Post Office under a pseudonym. Has anyone done that before? My local UPS Store says they want a real name on the package so I can show ID for it, but maybe there's a way around that?
Thanks

I've mailed something to a very well-known, very well-respected member here who did not offer to give me his name. On the shipping box, I just wrote his bitcointalk username along with the rest of the information--and he received the package just fine. Are you averse to providing your address to someone here? Can you have it delivered to a friend? I'm assuming you're in the US, of course. If you're not, I don't know how any other country's postal service works. And I understand wanting to be anonymous, but sometimes it's not completely possible and you have to make compromises. Edit: I use a P.O. BOX and i have added a name similar to my forum name. So in other words I can use my real name AND a forum name for the same box. And i do not need to show ID.
Really? I had a P.O. box once when I lived in a rooming house where the mail for the residents was delivered all together, usually in a big pile, and I didn't trust that my mail wouldn't get stolen. That was about 16 years ago, but I think I recall having to show some ID at the post office. I could be mistaken, though. In any case, P.O. boxes are a great idea if you value the security of your mail. I wasn't aware of the anonymity factor. That's damn cool, too.

It’s a double edged sword..... one side you use a different name, but must give a valid address. On the other side, you get a PO Box and have to give your real name. Find a friend or have it sent to minerjones to reship to you. He’s about as trusted as they come. Good luck.

Yes...you fill out a form and sign for any name you want it to be. It works like a charm. Was not aware of it until a couple months ago.

Only drawback is that certain service providers do not deliver to PO Boxes. I know FedEx do not
Very true and neither does DHL. I once had a person send me a package via DHL to my P.O. box ( even though I told them to send via snail mail) and once I realized that I called DHL and had them ship it to my home address. I am not sure if that can be done with FedEx though.

I think different post offices have different services. I can see all my current service in "Managing my PO box" on the usps online site. Cheers

Also applies for sellers on ebay that refuse to mail to a PO Box (but use USPS shipping anyway for some dopey reason).

I think one good way around this (in addition to other suggestions) is to develop a relationship with your UPS store (or another mailbox service provider) and say, hey I'm so and so and I do business as "X and X Company". Then you can get a physical street address that is not a PO box, does not require your name, and has 24 hour access (if you decide to go with a subscription to one of their box services). Some of them will do this on demand for $5/package, or they will gladly rent you a box. Unlike the PO, you can always call them and get quick service. They will re-route packages, etc.

I have been planing to do that myself. I'm thinking of sending the package to the security personnel in our village and let him claim the package but I doubt he'd also agree. Because he might find me a suspicious guy to deal with being not sent to me makes him think about I'm dealing something illegal. To avoid such, the very best option I can do is just buy the product in cash to a physical store.

The one thing I also found annoying is when sending a FedEx package I have to present my drivers license...apparently this is a new thing they implemented since they had issues with people mailing illegal items or dangerous items. SO when I send to someone requesting FedEx I cannot place my PO box and username as the sender..they actually take my ID and type in what is on it as the sender.

I only use USPS since its my favorite branch of government, and they are the only ones who give a damn if your package goes missing. I have things delivered to people all of the time using names that aren't their's. I've sent packages to about 50 different Chiefs, various animals, and a few very smart babies. The only time that you need to show ID via USPS is if you elect to pick up the package from the post office rather than having it delivered. Maybe with registered mail as well, but first class/priority put whatever name you'd like.
