It depends from case to case.

Higher education is good if you want to land a job. If you are looking from an entrepreneurial perspective instead, it's more important to learn what education doesn't teach you. For me, I feel like education is just an introduction. It's more important what you do in your 'free time'. Do you prefer to learn new stuff or spend time with your friends drinking?
The correct answer is spending time with your friends drinking while learning new stuff  Grin

Do you think a higher education is worth it today?

You don't even bother to give any scope as to why you need this question answered. If you want to be a medical doctor, there is no other route than higher education.  If you want to be homeless then your decision is probably easier though either way can get you there.

There are already threads about this very question:

Higher education, is it so important?
Should I Go To College Huh
Is it college worth it?

I think that higher education will always worth if is a real education. I mean if you were really studying in university, no just doing there anything. Talking about the job... Well, you can find job also without a higher education , but I really wouldn't like to live and understand that I don't know so many things. Studying is very interesting, and if you have a possibility, you should use it.

Absolutely no! I know a lot of cases when without any education people get to the success! It depends only on you!

Depends on the career you want. Of course more technical jobs in the science or medicine field for instance, will require higher education. There's never such a thing as useless education though. It will help you go further in one way or another.

It depends on the Uni and the quality of education there. If professors and students are treating their responsibilities well and try to do their best, without any constraint it's higher probability to be a success. Moreover, when you're going to prestige Uni you are getting contacts and it's a bigger chance for a good job in the future, when Uni can even help you with that, because they have some partnerships etc. Higher education primarily isn't for everyone. I mean, a lot of young people are going to University because of their parents, family etc. But, trust me, not everyone wants to get it. Some of them want to go directly to work, or something else. Besides, when everyone is studying, it's inefficient for a country because it's hard to say if someone really deserves for this high education because actually, everyone can have it without any work and effort. For that reason, higher education is worth today, but in my opinion only when you're getting to a good University and where a student has a lot of possibilities after that. It's important what these studies have for you in an offer during it and after.

If you have the money and the time, it’s hard to see it as a bad thing. If you have to go heavily into debt and chase degrees like liberal arts, you’re probably better off working your way up from an entry level job or going to a trade school.

True! Like OgNasty says, depends on your situation and what you plan to achieve. If you want to become a doctor or a lawyer, then I don't think there is any other way. But don't throw your money at stuff that is highly overrated, like a liberal arts degree. A lot of stuff can be learn by self-study, experimentation and personal projects. Especially if you talk about programming or related fields.

I think this varies very much from country to country and university to university. As someone who has studied in the UK and in a few other places in Europe I can say that the comparison between them is enormous and in the UK it came down to people's attitude towards studying a lot as well. People find it hard to commit to 4 hour days 3 times a week, yet for example in Germany it is not that uncommon to have classes from early morning to evenings up to 5 times per week...

everything depends on case to case...I think that the best way is to complete some good curses and get a good chance to get a good job. That option is better than attending regular education

University or at least college diploma might give you more advantages before those who do not have it while applying for a potential job. This how the majority of this world's companies hire potential candidates.

I think that higher education is still needed, even nowadays. Because with diploma you would definitely get a job much easier than without it

I recently met with a top tier banker (I don't know if you've seen my post already).
The bank director has had a master and before starting the career in banking couldn't find a job.

You have a master and PHD and you expect employers to be looking after you?
Do you expect to be paid high amounts of cash? Congratulations!
You failed your expectations.

What you do in your free time is more important. Do you drink with your friends and spend
time having fun or are you learning new things? Even small things like learning on bitcointalk
contribute to your success

I think depending on your country and the education you are studying. In my country, I do not think it is necessary to go to college, they are not necessary

It's only worth it if you have wealthy parents who can help with your finance, or you live close to a uni to save on living expenses. Otherwise you will have a lifetime of debt

It depends on whether you are already equipped to earn good money and make a good living, if you already are, then higher education wouldn't be necessary. Many people I know are extremely successful and wealthy without receiving any higher education.
