Most forums have chatbox but bitcointalk doesn't.... What do you guys think, does this forum need a chatbox or not? In my opinion it would make things much cooler

Chatbox for what? If someone has any question or sth to say, they can just post here. I don't see any significant reason on why is it needed. Its just another clutter and work for the mods. The positive effect should always outweigh the amount of work invested, imo

If you want a cryptocurrency related group chat, there's a lot in discord and telegram.

The idea of this forum is to post things related to bitcoin and/or developments made in the said crypto. Though this was somewhat becoming a hub for social interactions nowadays, I feel that it will lose its identity of being an old-looking forum if we had added that said feature here. It's fine as it is, and people can share ideas and whatnot on the boards (albeit the excessive spam, but whatever) so why add something that is not-so-important and does the same job as to what's currently existing now?

I also like a bit the idea of a chatbox, but this forum is not about such a simple topic or niche for it to be done, we would have thousands of people talking in that chatbox doing any kind of things that needed more moderation, and I think the team already has enough work for now.

The chatbox would be just a sandbox for trolls, scam coin advertisers and similar ones. The normal users would not benefit from it, moderating a chatbox is much harder and requires much more resources to be effective.
My opinion is that we can live without it...

And because bitcointalk is the biggest Crypto related Forum with many user each day... I would say that the chat box will also be overloaded.

Well, most forums having it doesn't make it relevant or necessary. It's possible to send a direct message to any user on the forum (as long as your rank is not restricted). And you can 'chat' through that means.

Bitcointalk is called a forum for a reason
why would you need a chatbox is beyond me- to read various unrelated spam messages and to give mods more work than they can handle already?
if anything you can private message when you feel like chatting to someone, it provides plenty of functionality

Chatbox needs constant moderation or it turns into trollbox with people writing profanities and spamming referrals and scam links to be annoying to others. It's much harder to spam when you have to write a post and more time passes before the link is clicked by a lot of people. Who is going to pay people to moderate it?

what can be done is just make a IRC freenode link.

then for any topic you create you can just change the bits after ? = to customise a room for specific topics

Some months ago, somebody brought this up before--that bitcointalk would somehow be made better by having a chat/trollbox, and the responses were overwhelmingly negative if I remember correctly.  I was one of the members against it.

I'm sure some people would use it, but I really think it would end up getting abused by scammers and spammers looking to promote their projects.  Plus it would need some sort of moderation, and with Theymos basically doing nothing (except the merit system and the most recent adjustment to it) about the spam in the important sections like Bitcoin Discussion, I highly doubt he'd be willing to hire a moderator for a trollbox.  Nor do I think a chatbox is what bitcointalk is lacking right now.  The forum very badly needs help in a lot of areas, and a spambox is so low on the priority list that I would suggest that it's not even on anybody's list of priorities right now.

It's not about how wealthy the forum is,definitely we all know the forum is doing well financially and can cope with any little or major alteration,and your proposal is one of'em

It's simply basically about it(your suggestion)being unnecessary and in no way do I see it developing the forum,it'll just be used for the wrong reasons why the spammers really.
It's definitely not the "worst suggestion in the world",but we're not in dire need of this at the moment

If this is what you think then I don't think you truly understand what a chat/troll box can do to a forum or site when used wrongly, for better understanding register an account or visit MERCATOX EXCHANGE to see for yourself how the chat/troll box is been misused by both scammers, spammer to pass wrong information creating fud and most disturbing, paid campaigns are been carried out by project deserving the masses of what a great project they're offering all in the name of marketing for selling worthless tokens.
The suggestion above is the worst idea I have come across, reading the replies above will make you understand why it's the worst.

Anyway, I guess we have talked about it several times. It's a forum not a social media. Why would I bother to chat with people where I can create a topic to ask whatever I want to?

A chat is not needed here at all. I am also against this idea not only due to the big amount of spam and malware that could be posted in the chat. But also because that might mean that some quality discussions and posts could be transferred to the chat instead of being discussed here on the forum because it is easier to post it in the chat instead of opening a thread or writing in an already created thread about it.

This forum is chatbox itself, why need another? You can ask question and discuss openly, also chatting each other by quote. In a result you can see all the previous discussion. But if open chat system peoples will spam and you will not get appropriate answer. Especially this is bitcoin related forum, peoples will try to spam as you can see on telegram how peoples are spamming. Even we don't know who adding which group. So I am not really fan of this.

I personally feel that this forum provides enough liberty to post high quality views and discussions are also available so another chatbox will be an extra unwanted activity.

Yes it would be better to have a chat box so that we can have a good live conversation. Hopefully in the new forum this will be implemented. It sounds great but still it should have a moderator to ban unwanted users that are good for.nothing scammer and hackers spamming malware like those in the telegram channels. Almost in a group that had a user used to spam malware and not only one but more than 5 user.
