Indeed, there are many new formats about ICO scam that we have not yet realized. we are required to be smarter. one of the most classic scam formats is the Profit offer is beyond common sense. but if it is wrapped in a new model I think it might cause casualties. for example Hardfork news. this is very tempting. for example, the ETCV which was horrendous, turned out to be just a scam.

Scammers are using different methods to scam people now a days, scam ICOs are a part of it. Its very difficult to find out whether a scam ICO but if we go thoroughly into any project, atleast we can have some idea whether to invest in that ICO or not. Useless ICOs do not work well,there is always excuse from their team about services, release of product or anything asked about project. In the current scenario, I believe that a certain project is legit if they have working app or product with large number of users already. We are not talking the alpha or beta because there is high chance that the project will still not go thru. 1) ICO Stopped or Paused

2) Refund - When  eth more 200 to 300 USD people invested some ICO now they are stopped and started refund now Eth price 95 USD .

3) Some ICO announced Soft cap reached successfully later their also follow this kind of refund method .

 Trecento , Humancoin ,Vanig and etc.

I think it would be better not to buy any coins at this time because I think almost 98% of ico will make us lose.
it would be better if now the ICO is replaced by STO or IEO, I think the ICO era will end soon.

I hardly get myself involved in ICO, cause I'm very sure that majority of them are scam and that's the truth. There are lots of better things to be done than investing in ICO, you can even hodl up in your crypto wallet instead of ICOs. But, from the way you have explained this, I don't think you really have them to blame for this. If price happened to get below what it was when you invested, then they will pay based on the current price.

You bought 1 ETH and that's what they are going to give, no matter if they price goes up or down. So, let's assume it was the opposite and the price went up instead of going down, then they will also pay you a higher amount than you have invested. So in this case you shouldn't be blaming anyone cause the market is currently down and its no one's fault.

There are fewer methods, so scammers excel as they can by inventing more and more new tricks and types of deception. The task of each user is to have a sufficient level of knowledge to easily distinguish scams.

I was also scammed. ICO has made the distribution of tokens, but unfortunately it is not listed on any exchange, and for a long time has no contact with developers or any information about the development of the project.

It's one of scam icos but there are some legit icos. i have been getting a lot of news from all of my icos. I have joined in some icos and the developer is trusted. It looks like you should do more research to avoid such garbage ico like the one that already mentioned in your thread.

If they raised eth and never turned into some usd or any other, i can't say it is a scam.

But if take eth, sell it for usd later buy eth and payback, that is a scam.

I think there is a difference in the ICO project. ICO projects are said to fail because they cannot collect funds and all investor money is returned. But if ICO is fraud, of course, they will not refund your investment money. So every investor must always be vigilant and not easily trust ICO.

It is always better not to invest your money into each project, but to invest your time in making your own investigation of each project to assure that they are legit. Try to take part in ICOs that have already secured their soft cap.

IN my opinion, the whole ICO field is kind of scamming people. Rarely projects are trustable. Better avoid ICO overall.

Nah, that's not true, what the op has discussed here is in no way a scam. You got what you invested and you weren't scammed. The only problem here is that the price broke down and went below the purchase price. So in this case they have no other option than to still give you what you paid for.

Take for example you bought 1000 tokens and it is worth 1 ETH currently $143, which means the 1000 tokens you paid for is worth $143, if the price of ETH falls to $100, you will be paid that $100 cause that's what the tokens are worth as of then, there is no scam in it. It's just the risk we see in cryptocurrency.

What is the difference between STO or ICO or IEO? STO is the ICO with regulations added. IEO is also ICO, but when it is sold in exchange it becomes IEO. However, exchanges choose the best of the projects in order not to lose, and do their research well. If we do this by supporting each other, can any project deceive us? big NO!

for ico indeed the refund problem is still very chaotic because they always return investor funds when the alt price or the other one goes down, I think I think the ico exchanges investor funds with stable coins / fiat money so that the money from investors is not too severe but rarely do ico do that matter

What is the difference between STO or ICO or IEO? STO is the ICO with regulations added. IEO is also ICO, but when it is sold in exchange it becomes IEO. However, exchanges choose the best of the projects in order not to lose, and do their research well. If we do this by supporting each other, can any project deceive us? big NO!

exchanges team will observe the projects that will held IEO in their exchange.its give huge influence to their repution if they didnt carefully select correct projects.

I'm beginning to think that they are making a profit also from pausing the coins, when the market is down, I have seen so many ICO paused or stopped and their alibi is the market condition yet they are very slow to refund their investor's money, am I the one thinking that they are using the money to invest.
