it's not just that a major recession might take everything down with it.

bitcoin really isn't the default hedge asset at all. it might have the potential to be, but it's literally not even a decade old. it's a brand new technology---still experimental and in beta. the world doesn't view it as a "safe" asset at all. it's rather viewed as extremely risky and speculative.

in another 50 years, i could see it being the go-to hedge. it's really hard to imagine now.

Good question. Bitcoin or crypto is still at its infancy so it's hard to correlate in with stock market as the latter has been in the scene far more than crypto. But if crypto might turn out to be like stocks with the price going up and down so for me its better to buy when their is blood in the street, just saying and HODL for long term.

Bitcoin's history in that regard is shorter but the likelihood is that it will recover and go on to find new strengths. IMO, it does not behave entirely like the stock market but yes, if you entered the market after a huge crash, long-term you will be able to get some good gains as evidenced by the past 'cycles' of the market. I was one of the lucky lads who invested when bitcoin was on its $200 mark and sold when the price rose to $2900. But if you are investing in the long term, and you believe that adoption is really going to pick up for bitcoin in the future, then yes, it is a good idea to invest in bitcoin when there is a bear market, and price and sentiment is low. Just like you would try to pick out the lowest possible entry point for a good long term stock to invest in.

That is only assuming that you are willing to hold onto your position for a number of years. If you are a trader who is seeking short term profits, then buying at this point may not be a good idea since there may still be dips coming in the near future.

Speculative? What is not speculative today, people are doing that. The purpose of bitcoin is to make people realize that democracy is not something we need in politics, not that we have proper democracy in our politics and almost half of the world has elections that are either fake or at least somehow tampered with but even in politics democracy gives us a bit of hope, so we need the same on our money as well.

My reason for long term investment is the outlook for a freelancer.

I am not smart nor a genius on many subjects but I have been capable of living my life from home making enough money to support my life for the past 2 years without going to any work, that was possible because of bitcoin, that means bitcoin does have a big impact on our day to day lifes even if many people see it as a way to make more money via trading.

If you take the bitcoins project at face value you can see that it is solving a lot of worlds problems easily by eliminating global money transactions costs and making it very easy for small amounts of money to be transferred to you. If you are living in a third world country making 99 cents an hour is really impossible because getting paid part would be difficult, how would someone pay you 10 dollars a day, however in bitcoin or any other crypto its quite easy to send that type of money to someone.

Even if bitcoin will be trading above $20k, I believe it must be a good option for long term investments. I guess that you are missing out the fundamentals of bitcoin design. I mean to say bitcoin is here to have very big values so that more people will be adopting it for using it is a payment system in future. When by consider this fact, you will start accumulating bitcoin as much as you are able to, and you will never think about selling it. This is for the long term and what you are mentioning are just for momentary benefits i.e. short term.

Aiming for short term benefits (or otherwise known as trading) is the reason many people are struggling with speculation and expectation. Just target for big value after years then you will never find the any problem of holding bitcoin and you will surely enjoy big profits too.

i dont have a reason to use bitcoin for long term because i actually enjoyed it for a short amount of time or for short terms rather .  i buy sell cryptos and i earn a sufficient profit with it , so for me there is no point of investng and hodling my btc for long term   but altcoins ? Maybe    .   alts are late bloomer as its obvious that their starting value were only smaller compared to btc .  i guess they are more suitable for longer terms right ? Eh , what do you think ?

I agree with what you say, even though bitcoin is currently hit with bad news but bitcoin will continue to survive. bitcoin is a measure of investor interest in crycptocurrency, which is why if the price of bitcoin drops the price of altcoin also falls and vice versa.
