I heard a rumor that the new A2 miners will come with 12 chips per blade instead of 8, is this true?
I would like to buy a second miner but if the new ones are more powerful I'd rather wait.
Any idea when the new miners will arrive?

And you would hear this where ?

I read that somewhere on the forum, but don't remember exactly where.
6 blade boxes with 72 asics total. probably not Mini's yet.
You'll have to search for it.

Well, ye that makes a 150 Mh/s version. I already knew that. Sticking more chips on a mini would make no sense...

Still waiting for a reply about one of the a2 miners having 40% HW errors on one of the blades. Looks like it will need replacing?

Probably something like ~125 Mh/s I guess.

Why would it make no sense to have a Mini that hashes at ~42 Mh/s instead of ~28 Mh/s?

Today I have been looking at the heat produced by the cores on the chips. Between the circuit board and the heatsink is a sheet of conductive silicone rubber. Probably not that brilliant a conductor. On the back of the circuit board behind each chip there was a tiny smear of copper grease which I presume is to make contact with the silicone sheet. On one of my modules I cleaned this off and replaced with some Artic Silver MX-2 that I had lying around. Unfortunately I didn't have enough to do the job properly and cover all I wanted to, but looking at the temperatures compared to the one I didn't do it seems to have made a difference:

Untreated module: Average: 33.66 degrees, Chips: 34-39-34-34-39-41-42-40
Treated module:    Average: 32.38 degrees, Chips: 30-34-34-34-34-34-40-49

Note the average is still quite high because of that one chip that is running at 49 degrees, otherwise I'm looking at around 4 to 5 degrees difference.

I've ordered some more MX-2, so when that arrives I'll stick a load more on and see if it improves it further. I'll also stick some on the heatsink side of the silicone sheet in case there are any issues there. The MX-2 doesn't conduct electricity so you can be as sloppy as you like with it.

My goal of course is to get the temps as low as possible and then see if it will run at faster speeds.

Edit: Moved machine to garage where it is cooler, now seeing average temps of 25-29 degrees, and less hardware errors

Thank you for the info!

Sometime ago I bought some 'Kerafol Softtherm' heat conductive sheets from Conrad with 6 W/mK conductivity.

http://www.conrad.nl/ce/nl/product/189078/Krachtige-warmtegeleidende-folie-Softtherm-86600-Kerafol-86600-l-x-b-200-mm-x-120-mm-Dikte-05-mm-6-WmK?ref=searchDetail

Although not cheap I expect it to be better than the stuff that is used by Innosilicon.

Normally I also use MX2 but I used all. I still have some MX3 (like chewing gum) and MX4.

I'm a little bit afraid of taking the blades apart, because if I damage something I can throw them away.

The temperature is very important, mine is running now at ~37 deg. C, and the power consumption is 350W.
I had it running at 42 deg. a couple of days back, and the power consumption was more like 400W.
Probably it will also have a huge effect on HW errors, at the moment I see about 1.5% for one blade and 4.5% for the other.

It would be cheaper for production I guess. But in the beginning there were supposed to be versions with 1 and 3 blades aswell. 3 blades would give the same result.
It would make no sense to me, because the price would have to go up. 30 Mh/s right now is kind of a sweetspot.

I think the HW errors are down to heat, and I also think the electrical efficiency goes way down when the temps are high. I expect the conductivity of the sheet used is only 6 W / mK but also on the back of the board where most of the heat goes I don't think it is making full contact.

In this picture you can see the copper area that is supposed to make good contact with the heatsink, note the smears of copper grease. I have put MX2 on the square areas, but did not have enough for the entire area.

SCAM ALERT!!

Yesterday that guy that uses minereu.com. (with extra dot) tried to trick me into sending hem bitcoins for a new miner.

Not sure where you got that info but it is correct Wink

The revised A2 miner will indeed have 12 chips instead of 8 so 50% quicker hashing for 15.36 BTC including express shipping.

We will be having a limited batch arriving early next week.

If you would like to be the first to get their hands on the miner the payment address is -

18iWLvLtpMe56d1BnDGmGjfdpFJXMWC72J

After payment drop me a pm with the transaction I.D and your shipping address.

This should be in your hands and hashing be the end of next week if your quick Wink

The mini's are also available at the same time, again in very limited quantities from next week (only expending 10 units so will sell out day 1)

5.86 btc inc express shipping.

Your printed circuit boards are painted blue, mine are standard green, probably another shipment.
I ordered a couple of syringes with MX2, and some thin sheets of 6.5 W/mK heat conductive foil.
After it arrives I will try to improve the cooling of the chips, maybe it will help somewhat.

NICE try , this worth spreading.

by the way, if it is running @25-29, how much improvements you see ?
also, did you try 1280 frequency @ a cooler temperature ? it is said to promise a round 1M boot for A2MINI if tuned correctly @ right temperature

Thanks for warning everyone here.

the 12 chip version was suspended due to heating issue.  a 10 chip version design is used instead.  once that is done(in few weeks, i.e. 4-5).

Please note that at minerEU.com we never sell pre-orders as those are just tricking people's money

Haha bought one yesterday and according to your spreadsheet it is impossible to ROI. Actually all available miners are not ROIable (made-up word here  Roll Eyes )

Cool spreadsheet though with some nice info in it  Smiley
