I have given him a lot of time to respond, I have been sending more messages since then but I have not even noticed, gmaxwell claims that my account name is misleading and that it has nothing to do with Bitcoin Core, but my account was not created with the intention if I were to go through some of Bitcoin's largest reference implementation so far, Bitcoin Core, my account was created in early 2017 and I chose that name with a hashtag # prefixed in my name, did gmaxwell not notice this hashtag??? hashtag means support for some cause, in this case I created the account with that name as a way of demonstrating support for Bitcoin's reference client that today is Bitcoin Core, because at the time of the creation of the account, I did not think of a better name.

gmaxwell did not even enter my profile to see what kind of content I've been posting to see if I actually find any evidence that might incriminate me, but that's not what he did, he pre-judged my account name and thought I was a scammer going through someone's core!

After explaining the situation to you guys, I request the analysis of this case of the competent moderation and as you can see guys, this accusation and red trust is unfair, can look at my profile, my account is not scam, this my number of merits already say, in my community I am one of the most active, I made several posts with content relevant and technical, most are in Portuguese because it is my native language, just the title of the links I put in English, here some of them:

well guys, for cases like this do not occur in relation to my account, if necessary, I request to change the name of my account to the theymos and sincerely, Unfortunately there are some things in the forum that should be reviewed as the method of reputation of users (Trust and Untrust) that was created to give users reliability. It was once more used to qualify BTC transactions for P2P, today it is commonly used to "tag" people and often, it may be unfair accusations from users who do not even deserve to receive such a trust, but I do agree that if any users are actually practicing scam in the forum should receive red trust.

The name does sound somewhat misleading. If I called myself #satoshi or #Admin I would fully expect not just to be red trusted but also banned and the excuse that I'm supporting satoshi or admin probably wouldn't fly.

Having said that, a compromise should be possible here. If theymos can rename you I hope GM would revise the rating.

I don't think the OP has bad intentions. I've seen him around the Portuguese board multiple times and I truly believe that he is a good member of the community.

However, I understand why someone would red tag him due to his name. They don't know him nor his intentions, so they can't say if he's a cool guy or a potential scammer, or if he is planning to impersonate a Bitcoin Core dev or even sell his account for someone who's going to try the same.

Theymos: If you have the time, maybe you can change his username? This way, gmaxwell may reconsider the neg trust.

OP never had bad intentions, as far as I know. We are both members of the Portuguese local board, and he is a nice contributor.

I'm the moderator in the Portuguese section and have been following OP's activity since he joined, I can confirm he has never caused any trouble nor have ever attempted to pretend to be somehow linked to bitcoin core in any of his comments. Your suggestion seems very reasonable and I'll try to contact @theymos and the other global moderators to see if this is something that could be done.

As OP is fair and has no bad intention, something should be done. Theymos should consider a name change for this user so that gmaxwell agree to remove the feedback. It will create another issue though. People who don't know this matter will look for his username.

The name is quite misleading. Even if you don't mean harm, a takeover of your account could do harm. Therefore, the rating is justified.

Theymos: If you have the time, maybe you can change his username? This way, gmaxwell may reconsider the neg trust.

I have only had one interaction with him and he seemed a very reasonable and sensible person.

In his position you would likely have done the same thing. There are not many other ways he could have alerted people to his quite justified concerns. Not that you were intending on doing anything wrong but it's just too much of a risk to have others interpret your account as being part of the core team of bitcoin.


I don't think trust system is quite set up for these issues but it is the best we have atm and in this case will serve its purpose until you can arrange a user name change.

So yeah you didn't do anything wrong as such but need to get the username changed and then I think the red trust should be removed.

I don't think OP deserve red tag for just user name since he have no any suspicious activity. OP didn't try to get credit about bitcoin core. There are many user name same , like BitcoinCore . If you search you will found many similar name. So why only OP should tag since there is no rules during register time that what user names are prohibited.

However its depend on him who tagged op, he will remove or not. It would be better if possible change username. But I don't think theymos will do it. OP could try on meta create a new thread to request change username or remove red tag. At least you can try, theymos should aware about it.

1. this is GM not just a normal DT nobody petty squabbler
2. this guy has not done anything as far as i know to make him a scammer or taken any actions to that direction
3. he could have meant bitcoin core supporter  or anything even intent is not essentially there to do bad.

Its a terrible position. He had to have red trust as a precautionary measure i see that, but has not done anything wrong nor may never have intended to. Only solution theymos help him change to something else and red trust removed.
