I think the most important to remember is that some addictions do not leave you even if you try. You can do your best and actually stop gambling for YEARS before it comes back. That is why I have always cashed my deposits and so forth and always have a connected account with my wife which requires her approval whenever I send money anywhere, I haven't gambled big or even mediocre for years now and never gambled away more than 1 dollar per wager for years now but I keep the 2fa at her phone in case I go back in too much.

She doesn't really care anymore and I am sure if I get back to gambling I can manage to do it while hiding it from her but its at least not as easy as it could be. That is why the psychological help from a professional is a must in case of too much addiction, you can't beat it yourself that easily, you need help.

That's the point I'm trying to make here

And the one which such help-yourself tutorials are typically missing. They all assume, either implicitly or explicitly, that there is a strong will to change, but if there were, there wouldn't be a need for these instructions as most addicted people are perfectly well aware of the disastrous consequences of their addiction, be it obsessive gambling, compulsive drinking, chain smoking, or any other mania

Those who have this will either already overcame their addiction or were strong enough not to fall for it at all (before it became an addiction)

Lastly, give me merits if this tips help you. Nah. Just kidding. I just want to write a book someday and i need some inspiration. Gambling is fun though.
I do appreciate the tips or advice given but this line changes everything. Are you aware on how many threads are similar to this?
All of those points are valid ones but I can give out general conclusion if we are really serious on quitting gambling. Just have a very strong self control and discipline and be sensible into your decisions.

Quitting is easy if you want to achieve something, but never easy if you want to stop doing what you always do and what you always wanted to do. This is what you called addiction, and we all know that its really hard to over come. Is this the end? Is there any cure? Let me help you.

1.) if you really want to quit, you should WANT it. You should be serious about it and not play around. Most people failed to change because they didnt take quitting seriously.

2.) Have a stone hard mindset. Picture yourself to the person you want to be. The old person who doesnt need that things in order to be happy. Always think about the future results you will become.

3.) Be faithful on what you are doing. Cheating is not an option. Dont be fooled on peer pressure or the callings of slot machine. Learn how to have self dicipline. Focus on your goal and have a blindfold if needed.

4.) If you already strengthen your inner self, the next steps is already easy for you. You see, yourself is the best enemy you have and we should start changing you by the way you think. Next is, have other things to do that can make you busy. Start trading or having new business. You will soon realize that the essense of the money you lost in gambling.

5.) never to try it again. People are also malleable in nature and even you didnt do it for years, once you tasted it again, you will turn back to the same addict person you want to get rid of. We have a deep caravings for it psychologically or what you called cravings by our subconscious minds that once triggered, can never be stopped.

Lastly, give me merits if this tips help you. Nah. Just kidding. I just want to write a book someday and i need some inspiration. Gambling is fun though.

To sum it up, it all comes to determination on how to quit gambling. Only if a person is totally addicted to it and tend to stop his urge on gambling. Either way, if the person is only doing gambling for leisure and past time, then why would he quit? I don't see any reason for gamblers to quit what they usually do and what makes them happy.

Thats right. only "Want" is not enough to get out of addiction. even I am sure all addicts want to quit. but he cannot do it
because it has become a habit for them. Of course there are several ways to stop it. and help might also be very helpful

They want to quit but they will never take time for finding procedures for quitting. Just simply thinking about changes will not help anyone but they must prefer it by their heart so that they will start working on that to make that happening in real life. As it is really a hard part to make them working, no gambler is giving importance for bringing chances but simply sticking with gambling.

What do you do if you're crippled by depression that stop you from making any change to better the outcome of your life?
Firstly, you must find steps to come out of your depression and then you should work on bringing changes for better life. I mean to say if you are enjoying gambling and also looking for quitting it, that will not work. You must start by reducing your gambling hours/number of gambling sessions then you start working on how to quit.

Yes, it's simple, but it's hard to do because the addiction is not just to talk about the addicted itself, but it also needs to know what the method to solve the problem. And once the right method can apply, I am sure the addiction will be cured. But it needs a big effort to stay patient while we are trying to solve the problem and we need more support from other people.

I think you should first look into the causes of your depression

That is, whether it is organic or caused by your life circumstances. For example, if you are an addict, then the cause of the depression is pretty clear. You use your addiction as a tool of escaping it but since it is most likely the cause of it, it turns out to be a vicious circle. Alcohol is a well known depressant on its own and it is common for alcohol abusers to be depressed most of the time while still looking for the bottle to get a temporary relief

Supporting each other is the best way to help someone quit it for real. I think that we should give advice from our past experience and share it here in the forum in order to make people believe that there is a true solution and an exit way for gambling addiction.

This is what I personally try to do and I will continue to do it because it makes me happy to see that people can find redemption via my pieces of advice.

Gambling is somehow addictive but it will depend on the person that do gambling. There are just other people that cannot control themselves when they gamble. The more the are making some losses the aggressive they will become. So, let us just make gambling as for fun. Let us understand that the activity is not for the chance to get wealthy but to enjoy when playing on it. Money also is not the key to happiness. There are others as well and that includes playing a good game that will surely make you more fun.

maybe they will quit because they are now busy and cant squeeze any time for gambling  . i know a friend that was doing gambling only for fun and to past the time because he doesnt have a job before but now that he already accepted for his new job , he already forgot to play gambling even on his spare time . he said he will better use his extra free time to relax and to sleep because working outside is really exhausting .

That is good, he can know which is better to do for his life than for playing gambling, and I agree with him. Maybe gamblers need to have another activity or at least a jobs which can make him busy in all day long, so his mind is not thinking about gambling. And your friend was a good example, and now he can quit from gambling forever and as long as he keeps busy with his jobs, I am sure he will forget about gambling.

In other words, the process of quitting gambling should be started from the gambler and then only the external help will be effective. It means the gambler must wish by their heart and not just on words. No gambler will be preferring to continue their struggle like they always want to stop their mess-up with gambling but they are finding quitting is more struggling one than their struggle of finding money from gambling. They choose which is less struggling one and this is the reason why they are continuing gambling and not taking steps to quit.

As per many gamblers experience, quitting is not easier hence they are preferring to continue their gambling regardless of how many problems they are facing. It is like when they want to stop, they are going for gambling more intensively. Probably there will be no end to this until an external help will be dragging them out of gambling world.

A little cooperation from gambler and an effective help from external world (friends and family) will definitely bring good changes into an addicted gambler gambler's life. But, most of the time these two things are not happening at right time simultaneously.

Yes but this thread is not about people who gamble for fun but people who have a gambling addiction. Most people who go to casinos aren't gambling addicts, they just do it for fun like your friend.

What I find odd is that your friend was laid-off or fired from his job and he decided to gamble instead to pass the time, its a very strange thing to do when you don't have an income. Most unemployed people would never put themselves in that position. The only unemployed people who gamble are either students or gambling addicts.

I'm not a gambling addict but I get hooked into other bad stuffs and one of those is watching porn. Well, we all know that watching porn is normal and it is a part of being a man but honestly I come to the point that I want to stop it already because I noticed that it slowly ruins my life not only on the physical aspect (such as being lazy and always tired) but also to my mentality. In order to stop my "a little bit" addiction to porn, I seek some advice through google. I research about the benefits of NoFap, watch testimonies from those who  completed the 30 day nofap challenge and other ways to stop my habit. But in the end, I failed; all the information that I gained from my research remain as knowledge and I didn't put into actions. Did you know the feeling that your brain know what is right but your body refuse to do so because the urge was so strong? That's what I felt that time. And unfortunately, the things became even worse when my girlfriend and I got a quarrel regarding this.

But with God's grace, I finally overcome that bad habit. What I did is I set my fear as my motivation. I'm feared that my  girlfriend will continue to have bad impression to me, lose trust on me and leave me but instead of getting frustrated I used those possibilities to fix myself. So for those people who have gambling addiction or addiction of any form, set your loved ones as your motivation. Imagine the worst thing that could possibly go wrong or the pain you might bring to them if you continue your addiction, for sure you will feel remorseful after. Now use it as your driving force to change Smiley.
