I don't understand the purpose of the trust system here.

I will spend some time reading about the new structure, but first I need to understand the main purpose of the system. I've always assumed it was about trading and exchanges, and that it was a guide to decide who should go first in an exchange, or who can be trusted to run an investment project or escrow service. It seemed to be a bit like a credit rating. I had a bad credit rating because I didn't need any credit for about 20 years, and that included the use of a credit card. I decided to do something about it, and I got myself a credit card, and they keep increasing the limit. This has improved my credit rating quite a bit. I thought of the trust system here as similar - if you didn't trade, then you would probably have a rating of zero.

The system seems to be used for a bit more now, and I can understand some aspects. For example - merit abuse, account trading, and content theft for posting are all indications of low moral fibre in my opinion. Obviously in these cases one should approach trading with the member with a certain amount of caution, and negative trust serves as a warning. I'm a bit concerned about the use of trust to attempt to suppress opinions, or to punish those with contrary opinions, but that is an issue that is discussed in another thread.

I'm not a great supporter of attacks, unless it is for self-defence. I think encouragement and reward is more productive. Merits are an obvious reward in the current structure, but can we use the trust system as an encouragement for consistent good posting to support the forum?  My initial though is that posting has nothing to do with trust. So if I participate in the new trust ranking, how can I use that to encourage quality members. I think this may be especially relevant for newer members, and a positive trust comment can always be removed if they stray from the straight and narrow,

Both Lauda and TMAN have been good to me over the years, so if I were to award either of them any trust, it would be positive. I haven't traded with either of them though, so I don't feel that I can do this. I will confess that I haven't read all the Lauda controversy, so my opinion wouldn't be based on any factual information. I believe that TMAN has been involved in a lot of trades and exchanges without any problems, but I haven't been a party to any of them.

DT should highlight scammers that is the main function of DT members.

The problem is DT is now riddled with scammers and scam enablers and colluders.

These people are trying to use DT to silence the FACT being presented about themselves.

Lauda left me red trust for

1. telling the truth he is a scam promoter and scam enabler
2. telling him that I will present these facts to others

LOL that is what DT is for and he uses it to try to silence me.

I start a thread to tell these facts to others about lauda and within 2 mins his colluding ass kisser TMan leaves me red trust to double down.

This is will not work on me. Their red trust is fuel for me to continue presenting facts about them.

No feedback system is perfect or free from abuse and I doubt there ever will be one, but the trust system works fine in the vast majority of cases but of course when people fall foul of it or there's a couple of abuses apparently the whole system is broken and needs to be removed. People shouldn't be leaving negative feedback over petty squabbles but I don't see the point in needlessly complicating it even more because you're never going to make everyone happy. Might as well just get rid of it (or at least the scoring/'green/red' feedback effect and let people make their own minds up based on the comments left or whatever (but don't effect the score (but of course that then puts very reputable/trustworthy people at a disadvantage)).

I won't discuss the "purpose", because I honestly believe that the purpose of the trust system is whatever the users make out of it.

But a word of caution when it comes to using the trust system:
Most users misunderstand how the trust system works

The trust system consist of two different lists:
1. Feedback
2. Trust List

Feedback is where your direct experience with other users goes (trading etc.) and / or your "opinion" about the trustworthiness of a certain user.
Trust List is where users go whose Feedback you consider valuable.
(Also, especially when you're in DT1, users who maintain a "good" Trust List themselves, because it "propagates" over the "Depth")

A lot of people confuse the two and put people in their Trust List whom they trust.
This is in most cases useless, and in a few cases even harmful.

You might even go so far as to put someone into your Trust List whom you consider untrustworthy, e.g. because he's a known scammer, but who on the other hand gives valuable feedback about other users. Obviously, I discourage such a use of the Trust List, though

The new system is supposed to be more resilient to this as both inclusions and exclusions are more "democratic" for lack of a better word. And theymos is still tweaking the system so if you see ways to abuse it let him know.

As for individuals - try sending a PM to a DT1 member you trust if you don't want to make it public. Most importantly though, make sure you set up your own trust list as that is basically your way to vote for the new DT1.

By implement new trust system DT will be more active and power abuse will reduce as well. For me new trust network is working fine. Hope few more reputed user will add on DT list by Monday.  Especially I am happy to see new DT1 list. I was made a post about inactive DT. So I believe current DT1 are active according to theymos rules and DT2 as well. I am fully agree with selection of DT1.

DT members can not say they will can and have red trusted people for presenting facts about scams.
