I’m starting to worry about coinmarketcap lately, after series of deceit and spammish activity The following are my observed reasons
1. Many dead projects still on cmc
2. Market cap is fake Cox many projects which have seized to trade adds up to the market cap
3. Cmc doesn't verify authenticity of projects before listing it
4. CMC now have ads of fake icos on their website thereby leading people to scammers
Funny enough so many NOOBS believe anything and everything dey see on cmc to be authentic
Let me stop here and anyone against it should bring a proof to counter it Or offer more options

Okay and do you have some better site? I don´t think that someone will verify all 2200 crypto listed projects. That is impossible.

There is nothing to worry about, if you can not blame TV station for advertising a product, it is not the fault of CMC that people invested in scam and the developer run away with the fund, or exchanges doing wash trading or project developers desert a platform.A few dead companies still trading on stock again in America.

They are not an exchange they only list coins to track the price, volume, and information about the site, they have nothing to do with volumes, projects and whatever happens to the project, in fact, they helped traders and investors in analyzing the coins, it's still the investors task to track their portfolios.

I think you are right about not overly faulting coinmarketcap But they probably should be strict with their security teams to ensure that better products are advertised And also be strict with new regulations Everywhere is bearish CMC can’t be a factor to fud

CMC should be make better service and make rules for anyone that want to list their coin, they should choose only coin that legit to be listed, this is to avoid fraud coin listed on the platform and to protect investor. In 2017 CMC listed many lending coin that finally all of them turn in to scam. Mostly everyday new coin listed on the CMC and i think some of them does not have any live product.

They need to operate their business so funding is needed and they can only get it if someone projects (whether scam or not) to advertise on them.
We still need to do our due diligence if we wanted to invest on a project so don't blame coinmarketcap. If you're not comfortable then search for a alternatives, there's a lot of them.

Coinmarketcap is already not trustworthy since couple months ago, several articles in medium expose the dark side of Coinmarketcap from their listing policy that required much much money, that literally robs the project developer. And how they are bribed by a project to manipulate the market data of the project competitors. Unfortunately the articles and the account creator are suspended by medium, but you can still see the footprint in this thread, https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3191840.msg33082761#msg33082761

I think Coinmarketcap is an index platform rather than coins audit platform. All information in this is just for referrence. May I know why we are not safe?

Coinmarketcap is merely a website which takes prices from exchanges and list them.
So, i don't think there is any problem about safeness. Problem is fake exchanges giving out fake numbers. Mostly fake volume.

Yeah i agree with most of your points and i do think that coinmarketcap should implement some checks and may be verification by kyc and address before listing a coin as cmc is one of the biggest website or platform that most of the crypto community checks regularly.

Or offer more options
I am using https://www.worldcoinindex.com/It's not my website, but it has some extra things and I've got used with it. Since I don't follow CMC closely, I don't know if this other site is better, but you can check for yourself. At least the prices are calculated different. However, all these sites should be used mostly as guidance, not as standard. If you follow a few exchanges you may get better insight than from CMC & Co.

CMC was always full of shitcoins and with not perfect algorithms but and all users know it from the very beginning, so don't blame someone else if you fucked up with your shitcoins or ico's or something else.

Coinmarketcap is only shows information. I think it is good thing. You can consider a coin as dead one! But remember it has a investor! People gets info about their investment via CMC. Don't underestimate it.

It's the most popular crypto market cap list so those concerns are being taken advantage of CMC itself for monetary purposes. Gone are days that they aren't advertising any scam. As the site grows in traffic, they are getting the favor as a normal website that profits from ads whether a scam or not. The site itself is very manipulative and remember that moment when a glitch happened. It really affected the whole market, I think they have threshold and time requirement to unlist those dead projects. You can address your concern directly to them: https://blog.coinmarketcap.com/contact/

The site and the services it provides to the public are very interesting and useful for monitoring. No need to pay attention to advertising if you do not like it or you can download the browser Brave and visit the site without advertising and spam.

Good point. They just make-up the site. Who pays more and orders advertising. I do not think that they are testing commercials. Since this would reduce revenues. This advertisement can not be trusted.
On the other hand, how can they check the project?

We can consider Coinmarketcap is not trustworthy since the start, but do you think there's a better website than Coinmarketcap? Noobs people are always noobs if they don't do research first before an engaging project, Coinmarketcap is where you gather market price information not for searching a good project where you invest. As of now, there's no legit site which is having ads on ICO.

Well you think coinmarketcap is not safe, it's not an investment site, ok they advertise site but all the other cryp[tocurrency related sites also accept advertising, coinmarketcap is an old site and helped in the advancement of cryptocurrency, don't blame them for losing an investment just because they advertise potentially scam ICO, do your own research,.

CMC is a business trying to make money wherever and however it can. I'm sure decisions made there at this point are economic based (ie., more profit) as the code is likely pretty well polished. The more information listed on there, the more important it appears to newbies. For newbies, CMC is acting like a lighthouse for people coming out of the dense fog. For them it is a warm and welcoming place to go where it's everything crypto. I imagine for each new person that starts investigating cryptocurrencies, CMC likely receives anywhere from 10 to 1000 clicks per user before they get more advanced and start seeking out more accurate information on sites other than CMC. And like all businesses scrambling to stay ahead in a fast moving space like crypto, CMC is guilty is bending and breaking the rules in order to bring in that one more set of eyeballs. Morally, it is CMC's job to police itself so as not to spread information about scam ICOs, but business-wise it is not their responsibility - the advertising revenue scam ICO's offer them to place ads is likely enormous and cannot be denied by the site operators/owners. Unless you are a newbie, most folks should be going there only for a quick snapshot of the prices for the top 10 cryptos. Start checking out anything else there, and you'll likely find yourself distracted by all the bells and whistles and walk away afterward with your head spinning.
