Its because the growing of bitcoin adoption. Actually gold price is always move in line with other commodity price such as wheat, rice and etc. I mean if such commodity's price rise then gold price will also rise and vice versa. But bitcoin price is highly influenced by supply and demand. Now the growing demand of bitcoin is significant so the increasing price also significant.

Really depends on the culture, I think gold has been in exchange for 10,000 years personally but not worldwide and not between nations as traded money exactly.   Native Americans didnt value gold across that continent as I understand it and my guess why is they were too nomadic a culture and gold is heavy and not that useful to them, the jewellery they did keep was far lighter hence the beginnings to value was not there for them in the same way.

How we find value is not fixed, people want to dismiss Bitcoins now when all kinds of different monetary standards have been found useful within cultures previously.   Why a secure, fast, limited and open ledger is not going to be useful and dismissed as evil somehow by a few is fairly laughable.   Its very possible Bitcoin will be useful money ten years from now even from a disinterested point of view that should be acceptable as a possibility
